Reviews

8.8 Whitefriars has a Review Score of 8.8 (8.843)

The Review Score of 8.8 (maximum of 10) for Whitefriars is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 16 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Whitefriars in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.404 for Whitefriars is calculated as follows: ( (98 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (18 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 188 Ratings = 4.404

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.439 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Whitefriars is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11.4 positive Reviews (57 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 5 Reviews ÷ 11.4 Target = 0.439

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My father has now been at Whitefriars for just over 4 years. In those years, I haven't had any complaints with the care he receives. He is always clean and tidy, as is his room.
The staff on the dementia unit are all lovely and treat my dad with respect and dignity like he is one of their family members. They keep me up to date with how my dad is and when I visit, which is approximately every 4 weeks, he is always happy. I never have any concerns about his welfare. I would definitely recommend Whitefriars dementia unit to anyone.

I am extremely grateful to the Manager, Administrator, Head Carer and Carers for their professional care that they have given my mother who has Dementia with Lewy Bodies. The Care Home is warm and friendly, very clean and I know that my mother is 100% safe and is well cared for.
Thank you for being our lifeline.

After searching for the right place, as soon as we spoke to the Manager, we knew we had found 'Home'. The Manager leads a very dedicated team and nothing is too much trouble. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, lots going on and lots of laughter.

I had all the usual concerns about moving mum into a care home, but I need not have worried. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by such kind carers, who immediately took charge to ensure mum was happy and settled. One month on, during which there were several occasions where I needed assistance and having visited mum at her care home. I can say that whether it be the manager, admin or individual carer, everyone is considerate, efficient and clearly happy in what they are doing. Mum is very happy and is thriving therefore so am I.

My husband has settled well and is on good terms with the staff and management. I am always made welcome at any time. There are smiles and a chatty atmosphere. If he has a fall or is not well, I am informed immediately and I am reliably informed by other visitors that they all have similarly been welcomed.

After struggling for several months, to give the adequate care in her own home to our 96-year-old Mum, we found her a place in Whitefriars in Stamford. Although she was only with us another four months. We had peace of mind knowing she was being so well cared for. I and my Family can't thank everyone enough from the Managers, the Admin staff and the wonderful Care assistants and Volunteers.

A heartfelt thank you from all of dad's family for all the care and attention given to him and his family while he was in your care, he was treated like a member of the family. We as a family have a great deal of respect to all staff in the daily care given to residents and families. We have always felt most welcome, the staff being wonderful and very respectful to our elderly father. Special thanks to all the staff on duty the day dad died. Thank you all for being so kind and considerate. Bless you all.

A visit to Wizard of Oz pantomime in Peterborough. A ride on the bus and lunch at the Cresset. Dad was reluctant to go, however really enjoyed the show then his meal. Dad was shown so much attention and encouragement by the staff at the home. He was made to feel safe and comfortable. Dad still talks about his trip to the show!

On a number of occasions I have been visiting and mums teas has just been put down close by her. She is struggling to use cutlery because of arthritic hands but says no to help if offered to cut up food. She has also asked if she can have cheese and biscuits for tea, but this seems to difficult. Yesterday it was sausage roll and baked beans which she hates! she say she doesn't like to complain because the staff then get grumpy with her. She was also concerned that she cannot have a small amount of money in her room.

Joanne Barnett, Home Manager at Whitefriars responded to this review on 24 Sep 2015:

Thank you for your review and we appreciate your comments. I am sorry that your Mum has had some problems with meals and would like to reassure you that I have taken steps to address this with the chef so that the kitchen team is fully aware of the foods she most likes and dislikes. I can also confirm that cheese and biscuits are always available and the care team will ensure that they bring this to your Mum’s attention each day. We will also explore the possibility of providing her with specially adapted cutlery to assist her; the care team is aware that your Mum may need some help with her cutlery, although you will understand that we do also have to respect our residents’ wishes with regard to support. Next time you are visiting, I would be happy to discuss with you and your Mum the issue you raise regarding private money and the security implications of this, so that we can resolve the matter to your Mum’s satisfaction.

Very good review in pleasant, relaxed location lasting 3/4 hour with senior carer, my mother and myself. All aspects discussed from Whitefriars management and care, activities, exercise classes, church services and outings. Care and personal care discussed and more frequent baths requested and requests for wheelchair (nearly year ago) with doctor to be addressed. Otherwise very good as indicated.

Last time I reviewed Whitefriars I had a few issues, as as result of these and after speaking to the manager and an admiral nurse a lot of the problems have been resolved or are being addressed. Care for my mother has much improved after talking with the senior and admiral nurse, we have agreed on a care regime. The security issues are being sorted out with the door and I have been assured that there will be extra cleaning and extra staff during the evening. The atmosphere in Primrose area is much more pleasant and there has been more continuity in staffing. I look forward to seeing a continuing improvement under the new manager.

Joanne Barnett, Home Manager at Whitefriars responded to this review on 02 Sep 2015:

Thank you very much for this review. I am really pleased that you have seen some improvements following your previous comments and will pass this on to my team, who I am sure will appreciate what you have said. I am delighted to have now started as Home Manager at Whitefriars and will look forward to meeting you on one of your future visits to the home.

Owing to managerial and staffing problems not the good level of care we experienced when previously in Whitefriars for respite hopefully this will improve.
