My mum moved into Abbott House last year. She settled very quickly making friends with staff and residents. I think already knowing people who lived there, as she and they are from the local area, has certainly helped her feel at home. Her room is light with a nice view. She enjoys watching the birds
and squirrels out of her large window. She has also enjoyed choosing and buying plants to go in the garden area immediately outside her room.

Excellent care. Brilliant staff who always treat Mum with kindness and dignity.
When family visits we’re always made to feel welcome.
Weekly visits from an excellent hairdresser who is very reasonably priced and regular visits from a chiropodist.

My sister is very happy at Abbott House. She is more relaxed since she has people she is friendly with. I think making relationships with other residents, who may have complex needs, and consequently is more difficult, is still important. The staff seem to be aware of individual needs, and are there
if awkward situations occur. There is always a friendly atmosphere amongst staff and residents. Because I can only visit every 4 or 5 weeks and be with my sister for approximately 3 hours, I feel I cannot comment on food and drink, or activities. I think that, because of her health issues, my sister would be reluctant to join in with many activities. I would like to think that she could go into the garden in a wheelchair when the weather is warm enough. I am glad that a hairdresser comes regularly since it is important that residents can be helped to feel positive about themselves. I think the staff do a splendid job in caring for so many elderly people with varying degrees of need.

Find staff to be very good considering Mum can be a bit of a pain sometimes to put up with, they are very good with catering to her needs.

My mum was a resident at Abbott House for just over a year until she sadly passed away last month. Mum was treated with the utmost care, patience and kindness by all the staff throughout her stay. When she first arrived, Mum was independent and walked with a stick, later she used a frame, and then a
wheelchair. She found the loss of independence very difficult to cope with, but the carers managed her growing needs superbly as well as taking the time to get to know Mum, which helped her to flourish. She formed special bonds with them all and enjoyed the friendships she made with the other residents, whether through varied activities or chatting in the lounge. She also loved the tasty meals and the weekly visit of the hairdresser! When Mum’s health declined and she received end-of-life care at the home, the carers took it in turns to sit with Mum and reassure her, which was a great comfort to her, and I will never forget how they supported me and my family in such a difficult time.

I cannot speak highly enough about Abbott House. Within just one week my nan had made significant improvements. She is so well looked after by the entire team. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and the food is excellent. In my nan's own words, we'd "never tasted roast beef as tender as that". Such
a peaceful place too!

I am very happy with the care my mum is given. The building and rooms are kept very clean. The staff are very friendly and caring. The management is very professional and helpful.

My mum has been a resident of Abbott House for 15 months. During that time she has been well looked after both in terms of her comfort and welfare and with regard to her personal needs. While, like many care homes, there has been a high staff turnover, my mother has always been treated with respect
and encouraged to maintain as much of her independence as she can. She has a spacious, light room overlooking the garden area, and this is always clean and warm.
The home has a calm, cheerful atmosphere, with none of the clutter and odours that sometimes characterise care homes.
The new management team and a higher proportion of permanent staff are working hard to improve communication and to create a team approach to meeting the needs of individual residents. I know she is in caring and safe hands.

The home has a good atmosphere, and everybody is friendly. Easy access and lovely rooms. Nice gardens and a good view from the room. Staff overall is kind and helpful. Visiting is very easy, and taking Mum out for little outings is no problem.

Pleasant bright home with nice rooms. Would be beneficial to have a welcome when entering the building but rarely see anyone. If I need information I have to search someone out. Always very pleasant when I do find someone.

My father has just completed his first week at Abbott House. The care and compassion shown by the staff has been exceptional and everyone is so professional yet human. I cannot have asked for a better experience. Dad has already settled in and is happier than I have seen him for a very long time. I

As someone who works in the care industry I would say Abbott House is exceptional, If i was a CQC inspector I would rate this home as " Outstanding".
My mother is cared for with empathy and respect, she always tells me when I visit her how much she loves living at Abbott House, you can't ask for more
than that.
Good communication from staff and the manager, myself and my family are always making me welcome when we visit. Thank you for the care and support you give my mum.

My aunt has been at Abbott House for some time. The whole team, led by the manager and the team leader have provided an outstanding level of care. My aunt has always felt secure and has never had anything but positive things to say about those that look after her.
Everyone we have met or spoken to,
who is involved with her care, has made us feel that they are caring for one of their own.
The communication with us has been very good. We always feel she is in the best place we could have found for her.
During the difficult times of the pandemic, they have gone above and beyond to keep all the residents safe.
Abbott House is a very safe and happy place for any elderly person to live and be cared for. Every decision that's made, by all members of the team, has the wellbeing of the residents at its centre.

I visited my friend at the start of the year, the staff are always so friendly and helpful, nothing is to much trouble, lovely and clean. Such a warm welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy coming into the home. Lovely place.

I totally recommend this care home. My mother has been a resident for nearly 3 years and her care has been of the highest standard. The home is clean, well furnished. The staff are so caring, friendly and genuine with their level of support. Staff are well trained and there is a great rapport between
staff, residents and their families. During this year's pandemic, the staff have really stepped up even more to ensure residents safety, health and well being. They do a difficult job under difficult circumstances and deserve recognition for the ways in which they continue to look after our vulnerable loved ones. I continue to be impressed - and very grateful.

Mum was looked after in Abbott House for the 2 years until her recent death. We were extremely happy with the lovely care she received in all this time. As a healthcare professional myself, I have visited many homes but I can truly say Abbott House is the nicest home I have really ever visited. The
managers lead a lovely team of staff that genuinely care and even at the end of mum's life their care was amazing. I would thoroughly recommend this home to anyone.

The care provided is always excellent but the home during these very difficult Covid times was quick to respond. They were extremely diligent and their precautions despite shortages were beyond question.

Hannah

Hannah Humphris

Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Hannah has been at Abbott House for almost a year now and is a much valued member of the team. Hannah lives in Oundle and growing up lived in many countries with her family, from the Far East of Europe.
Hannah is very creative and in her spare time likes photography, painting, art and historical research. Hannah hand paints cards for each resident on their birthday.
Hannah is learning to bake, makes beautiful sandwiches and is also our resident DJ.

Astra

Job Title: Cook Joined: 2021

Astra is the newest member of our team, joining in April 2021. Astra has four children and is a grandmother. Astra loves cooking for her family and has worked in kitchens in hospitals and special needs facilities. She is very experienced in preparing buffets for large numbers and is very creative with sandwich fillings. Each week she makes a new "special" filling for the residents to try. Current favourites are cheese, mayonnaise and spring onion and the "all day breakfast" along with sausage and pickle. In her spare time Astra likes to spend time with her family and drive her new convertible...yes it is an Astra!

My name is Stuart James Upex. I have lived in Oundle for fifty two years. Most of my ancestors lived in the local village for many centuries. I have worked in a warehouse, a shop and for many years in a local school. For three years I was a carer for my brother and fathers. I have a NVQ qualification in cleaning from Cambridge regional college. Outside of work my interests are reading, cinema and history (especially the great war). I joined the housekeeping team at Abbott house in march 2021. I have found the staff to be helpful and I believe my efforts help to maintain a good standard of living for the residents.

I have always had a passion for working in care and joined Shaw Healthcare in 2021 as a support worker.


After realising this is the profession I wanted to remain in, I progressed from a support worker to a Senior, to a Team Leader, Deputy Manager and I am now the Service manager working towards my NVQ 5.


I enjoy my job immensely and I could not see myself not working in the care sector. It brings me so much joy to see the residents and staff interact as one big happy family!

Before coming to Abbott House, I previously worked in aviation and had my own business as a freelance equine groom. I made the decision to come into the care sector after being inspired by the team that cared for both my parents.
