Whilst I am very happy with the care my mother receives, the kindness shown to her and concern for her well-being. There is always room for improvement in the care of others. The only problem I have is in the laundry, clothes go missing, things get torn and discolours hopefully this can be improved
upon. I am, however, pleased she is at Abbott House she is safe and content.

I have my mother (aged 94 with dementia) on the waiting list as I think this is, by far the best care home in the area.
Meanwhile, I visit one of the residents, who has been living at Abbott House for 2-3 months.
She has settled in well and appears very happy.
Every time I visit, I'm impressed with
the attitude of the staff. I've had personal conversations with the manager who is very "hands-on" and friendly.

During the past year, the staff and management at this home have continued to improve facilities, surroundings and providing better entertainment and activities. They only chose to employ carers who are dedicated and who treat the residents with respect and consideration. I would have no qualms in recommending
this home to other persons in my position when they have to make a tough decision, as to whether or not they place their loved one in a care home.

My father moved into Abbott House in August and was very was unsettled. When he came out of hospital he said to a carer that he wouldn't come out of his room, after the first week he was out of his room for meals and to play dominoes with the other residents.
He has now settled in and has made a lot
of friends.

Hannah Humphris

Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Hannah has been at Abbott House for almost a year now and is a much valued member of the team. Hannah lives in Oundle and growing up lived in many countries with her family, from the Far East of Europe.
Hannah is very creative and in her spare time likes photography, painting, art and historical research. Hannah hand paints cards for each resident on their birthday.
Hannah is learning to bake, makes beautiful sandwiches and is also our resident DJ.

Astra is the newest member of our team, joining in April 2021. Astra has four children and is a grandmother. Astra loves cooking for her family and has worked in kitchens in hospitals and special needs facilities. She is very experienced in preparing buffets for large numbers and is very creative with sandwich fillings. Each week she makes a new "special" filling for the residents to try. Current favourites are cheese, mayonnaise and spring onion and the "all day breakfast" along with sausage and pickle. In her spare time Astra likes to spend time with her family and drive her new convertible...yes it is an Astra!

My name is Stuart James Upex. I have lived in Oundle for fifty two years. Most of my ancestors lived in the local village for many centuries. I have worked in a warehouse, a shop and for many years in a local school. For three years I was a carer for my brother and fathers. I have a NVQ qualification in cleaning from Cambridge regional college. Outside of work my interests are reading, cinema and history (especially the great war). I joined the housekeeping team at Abbott house in march 2021. I have found the staff to be helpful and I believe my efforts help to maintain a good standard of living for the residents.

I have always had a passion for working in care and joined Shaw Healthcare in 2021 as a support worker.


After realising this is the profession I wanted to remain in, I progressed from a support worker to a Senior, to a Team Leader, Deputy Manager and I am now the Service manager working towards my NVQ 5.


I enjoy my job immensely and I could not see myself not working in the care sector. It brings me so much joy to see the residents and staff interact as one big happy family!

As a service administrator, my role is varied and I have interactions with colleagues, residents, service users families and external companies/associations on a daily basis.
