Newgate Lodge Care Home is situated in the market town of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. The Home is ideally located close to the town centre with good bus, rail and road links and only a short journey to the picturesque settings of Newstead Abbey and Sherwood Forest.

Newgate Lodge is a residential care home registered to provide Residential and Dementia care for 60 older persons. They have been awarded the Dementia Quality Mark by Nottinghamshire Social Services and their CQC rating is “GOOD” with good achieved in all 5 inspection areas (March 2019).

All care plans are designed to meet the unique needs of each individual, recognising their abilities and always encouraging and assisting independence, empowering people to remain in control of their daily lives. The team also invites loved ones and representatives to be actively involved in the care planning process with regular reviews.

My very loved 90-year-old father with Alzheimer's came to this home in August 2023 after two months in a nearby care home (different group) that I found well below par! The difference in moving to this home has been staggering! Residents are never left on their own and are treated with the care and
respect I would expect from a quality care home. I visit daily and can't fault it. The staff are wonderful and the care is great. The home is incredibly clean and smells nice - which, trust me, is so immensely important! Huge thanks and praise has to be made to the two incredible women who ensure every day that the residents are entertained and engaged in meaningful activities. I've been staggered by just how much they do! Very impressive - their effort and time spent doing this is noticed by us all and I'm very grateful. No one wants a parent they adore in a care home, but when there's no other option, this home has made the transition so much easier for us all.

Mum was 92 with complex health issues and needed to be safe as she was having lots of falls and moved to Newgate Lodge Care Home in December 2023 until she passed away in April 2024. I felt Mum was safe as she didn’t have any falls. The team were responsive to her health needs seeking a medical practitioner
in a timely fashion.
Staff were caring and the home did activities every day with residents.
If I had any concerns I felt able to approach management and my concerns were dealt with effectively and they were open and honest. I felt listened to and concerns were addressed.
When Mum was coming to the end of her life, the staff showed great compassion, I found the whole team supportive and reassuring taking time to discuss any issues or worries. Mum and family were treated with great respect and compassion in her last weeks.
The team are caring and strive to deliver person-centred care.

My dad moved into Newgate Lodge in October 2023 due to his dementia. He has received excellent care and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Dad engages in the entertainment and loves to show off his dancing skills to the staff. It's a very clean and modern care home and Dad has settled well into
his new home.

Mum had been in 2 other care homes for assessment and had a dreadful experience.
Newgate Lodge was such a contrast from the moment we stepped through the door. We had hoped Mum would be here for a couple of years, sadly that wasn't meant to be and it ended up being just 2 months.
Her last 2 weeks
were on the end-of-life pathway, and the care and support we received were exemplary. Mum was the central focus to them in ensuring she was comfortable and not in pain.
The care shown to us as a family really made a difference. We stayed with her 24/7 for several days and were short for nothing, even a spare bed provided in the room.
It's not often family members see the night staff in a care home, so it was reassuring to witness the compassion (and energy) throughout the night.
A big thank you to all the staff who made Mum's last days as good as they could be.

This was the first care home we had experienced as a family. Although first impressions were good, it wasn't until Mum moved to a different care home that we had some level of comparisons to go with. I would not recommend this care home.

My dad has been so happy with the care and support from all staff who work at this home. Nothing is too much trouble. He now engages in the weekly entertainment provided, having a sing song, and mixing with other service users, chatting with them. Before this he was very recluse, the staff have brought
him out of his shell. We cannot praise the staff enough, the home and staff are excellent, worth more than five stars any day. Well done.

My Mum has been at Newgate Lodge for two years and has received excellent care despite her deteriorating dementia. She has been treated kindly and with dignity by all levels of carers, some of whom have gone beyond their role to ensure her comfort and safety. She has recently passed away and the carers
have surpassed my expectations with the level of care and compassion that they have shown both her and myself. Thank you all.

My mum initially came to Newgate Lodge for a respite care placement whilst her home was being renovated. Her initial fears of going into an ‘institution’ were quickly dispelled following a warm welcome and the offer of a bubble bath and nail job. She soon decided that she wanted to stay and for a few
weeks was able to enjoy the wonderful standard of care and facilities on offer. Despite a sudden decline in her mental and physical health, all the staff made every effort to ensure her comfort and well-being. It was clear that the staff are caring, attentive and appropriately affectionate to the residents. Thank you all for caring for our mum with such dedication.

The calm atmosphere and good relationships between staff and residents were obvious as soon as I stepped through the door. Everyone was so kind, friendly and considerate, especially the manager, who clearly sets the tone and standards. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and the refurbishment currently taking
place only adds to the small and homely feel, a must for residents with dementia. My husband spent a happy respite stay and it was such a relief to know that he was being cared for so well. I rang each day and my calls and questions were answered quickly and in detail. Everyone is treated as an individual, with care, respect and dignity.

The present activities coordinator always puts a smile on my Grandma’s face which I truly appreciate. She is a credit to Newgate Lodge, always striving to make the residents happy and enjoy each and every event or occasion. Pancake Day, wine tasting day and Mother’s Day are a few to name. Mother’s Day
was a memorable day for each and every resident, the efforts put in are truly appreciated by our family. The home always looks beautifully decorated for each of the occasions. My Grandma absolutely loves her home and I am honoured to know all the special people who make Newgate Lodge a beautiful home to live in. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do and continue to do.

My mother-in-law has been looked after in the nursing home for nearly four years. It has been a mixture of emotions and the pandemic playing a massive distraction. She has been looked after 100%. It's a fantastic and friendly home. Wonderful hardworking staff. Would highly recommend it.

As far as I am concerned, my mum and my dad previously were and still are looked after fabulously by the staff, really helped us to know they were well cared for and my mum still is even through her dementia.
I would obviously recommend this care home to anybody if asked.

Mam's room is always very clean. Mam is always clean. The staff seem very kind and concerns are dealt with.
I do not see any entertainment going on. I think Mam gets very bored.

Such a lovely care home. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and respectful. The facilities are nice and clean, with frequent activities and festive milestones celebrated throughout the year. It gives us comfort knowing our family member is well looked after and integrated into the daily life here.

Wonderful care home. Staff are great and super friendly. My gran being quite new to the home is really enjoying her time at the home. We as a family have seen a massive difference in them which makes the decision of putting her in a home so much easier.

Laura Quince

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2022

Laura joined Lidder Care in 2022, bringing over 20 years of experience in caring for older adults. Her impressive career in the care industry has seen her rise from a Care Assistant to Team Leader, then Head of Care and ultimately a Home Manager.


As the Registered Manager at Newgate Lodge Care Home, Laura is dedicated to fostering a happy and safe environment where residents and their families can spend quality time together. Laura’s favourite aspect of her role is engaging with residents and their families.


In her spare time, Laura enjoys spending time with friends and family, loves summer holidays and enjoys diving into a box set in the winter.

Lee

Lee Swinn

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2015

Lee has been Newgate Lodge’s Deputy Manager for the past 7 years. Lee has worked in care for 19 years and has extensive experience with a variety of conditions within elderly care and those with learning disabilities. Lee has level 5 management and leadership qualifications and has previous managerial experience. Lee’s ethos is putting the residents at the forefront of every decision made with regard to their care package and promoting inclusion between staff members and residents.

Tanya

Tanya Meason

Job Title: Care Manager Joined: 2014

Tanya joined Newgate Lodge in 2014. Her journey in the care sector has seen her excel in various roles, from Senior Carer to Care Coordinator. In her current role as Care Manager, she is responsible for audit and compliance and shares her expertise by delivering first aid and moving and handling training.


Tanya loves the daily interaction of residents and their families and the unique challenges that each day brings. Outside of work, Tanya loves spending time with her family and her two children.

Rebekah

Rebekah Buckley

Job Title: Front of House Joined: 2022

As Front of House at Newgate Lodge Care Home, Rebekah brings with her a rich background in administration and sales. Since joining Lidder Care in 2022, she expertly and compassionately manages requests, provides tours of the home to potential new residents and their families, warmly welcomes visitors to the home and ensures accurate record-keeping.


Rebekah enjoys meeting new families, connecting with residents and delving into their life stories and experiences. Her passion for people shines through in every interaction.


Born in Scotland and having spent five vibrant years in Germany, Rebekah brings a unique cultural perspective to her work. Outside of work, she channels her creativity into her own business, crafting beautiful wax melts.

Dale

Dale Carrington

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2021

Dale has been a valued member of the Newgate Lodge team since 2021 and brings experience in the care sector dating back to 2019. She began her journey at Newgate as a member of the care team, where she spent three years before moving to her current role as an Activities Coordinator in November 2024.


Before joining the care industry, Dale built valuable experience in the childcare sector, working at a playgroup and children’s holiday club.


Dale’s favourite part of the role is planning and organising meaningful, tailored activities and events that enrich the lives of our residents. She takes pride in encouraging resident involvement in the community, helping to build and strengthen valuable connections beyond the home. She enjoys the variety each day brings and the joy of making each resident smile.


Outside of work, Dale loves spending quality time with her friends and family. She enjoys seaside getaways to Filey, Skegness and Bridlington, where she makes cherished memories with her husband, friends, family and their beloved dog, Nala.

Melanie

Melanie Johnson

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2025

Melanie joined the Newgate Lodge activities team in 2025, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a deep passion for making a difference. After spending over 20 years working in a community pharmacy, she realised she wanted a more fulfilling path. This led her into the care sector, where she spent 15 years supporting individuals in rehabilitation services.


Melanie’s favourite part of her role is knowing she makes a meaningful difference in residents’ lives every single day.


Outside of work, Melanie enjoys weekend getaways in her caravan with her husband-to-be and their two much-loved cockapoos, Lottie and Ella. She finds peace and joy unwinding by a scenic lake, soaking in the tranquillity of nature.

Sharon

Sharon Luckcuck

Job Title: Head of Kitchen Joined: 2004

Sharon became a part of the Newgate Lodge team back in 2004 and during her time advanced from carer to senior carer to her current role as Head Chef. With over 35 years of culinary experience, she provides a variety of nutritious and delicious meals tailored to all residents’ individual preferences, taking pride in creating dishes that bring joy to everyone.


When she isn’t cooking up a storm in the kitchen, Sharon pursues her passion for motorbikes and enjoys riding her Harley Davidson!

Denise

Denise Shaw

Job Title: Head Housekeeper Joined: 2003

Denise has been a part of the Newgate Lodge team since 2003. She has had various roles including Night Carer, Day Carer and Senior Carer. Currently, Denise serves as the Housekeeping Manager, where she ensures all areas of the home are impeccably clean and well maintained. Denise takes great pleasure in every aspect of her role!


In her spare time, Denise enjoys getting to immerse herself in a good book, travelling on holidays and spending time with her family.

Tony

Tony Nolan

Job Title: Maintenance Joined: 2022

Following a successful 27-year career installing fire alarms and intruder alarms, Tony joined Lowmoor Nursing Home as part of the Maintenance team in December 2022.


What Tony enjoys most about his role is the satisfaction he receives when a task is completed! He also loves the aspect of problem-solving coming up with ideas and resolving issues. The maintenance team look after the upkeep of the home, perform repairs and maintain outdoor areas.


When Tony is away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family and scouting.
