My dad came to the Troc from hospital during Covid. We have not looked around any other care homes as he is happy and settled. The staff go above and beyond and ‘get him’! Nothing is too much to ask and the care home and manager have been adaptable to my circumstances.

My father has resided at The Troc for nearly three years, and during that time they have treated him with the utmost respect and kindness. He is not an easy man to care for, but they have shown limitless patience and understanding. I would not hesitate to recommend The Troc to anyone looking for a very homely care home. The team are very efficient at keeping me informed and always available for a chat. When we lost my Step Mum last year they could not have done more for us or been more caring and supportive.

The staff at the Troc cared for my mum for several years before she passed away in March. They were kind and caring, despite my Mum's occasional stubbornness! Towards the end of her life, they not only looked after my mum but also took care of us and I am truly grateful. Care homes are not about facilities, they are about the quality of the staff. The Troc is wonderful in that regard.

My Father who had dementia and Parkinson's disease was a resident from Dec 2018 until his death on 19th May 2021. As a family we chose the Troc after considerable research. A key concern was his adapting to life in residential care but this definitely proved to be a good decision as he was very happy there. All the staff were extremely caring, attentive, patient, compassionate and helpful and it was very apparent that whilst remaining very professional, they were also extremely fond of him. Some danced with him, others played dominoes with him but all liked to spend time with him. The covid pandemic severely restricted access to visit him until his last few weeks of life but the manager and staff were as accommodating as the rules would allow. His end-of-life care was absolutely phenomenal and was a great comfort to us as a family. I would not hesitate to recommend the Troc to any prospective residents and their families.

Over the last six days, my family and I have been at The Troc every day as we thought my father was dying. He’s subsequently improved a bit but we’ve had several nerve-wracking and emotional days. During that time we have seen the staff, junior and senior, treat my father with huge compassion and tenderness. It’s been lovely witnessing their interactions. I know there’re other homes in the area with more salubrious decor etc. but times like this show that’s it’s the care and the genuine warmth of relationship that really matters. The staff have also been lovely with us, the family.

Reply from Claire Edwards, Manager at The Troc

Thank you for your very kind and thoughtful review. We, as a team, are passionate about the care we give to our residents. Your father was a special man to us all, and we will miss him greatly. I will personally miss my dancing partner and his warm smile. Once again, thank you for your kind words. We are thinking of you all.

Great communication from senior staff regarding my mum and Covid updates, such as vaccination and visiting updates. Love the personal touches such as making music CDs for residents with favourite music.

My mum was a resident at The Troc from 27/3/19 until her death on 28/4/20. In that time she was treated with great care, attention and respect by the Manager and the staff. Mum was always clean and neatly dressed. She liked to have her hair done each week by the visiting hairdresser. Meals were varied, tasty and nutritious, with 2 choices every day. Suffering with dementia, very poor eyesight and hearing, mum could sometimes be demanding or unsettled. The staff seemed to be able to calm her with quiet words and reassurances and she would soon be smiling again. It was lovely to see that smile. The Troc has a very homely feel, is clean and well decorated. The gardens are extensive and beautifully looked after. The manager and her staff do a wonderful job with only limited resources. Towards the end of mum’s life the staff kept me informed constantly as, because of Covid-19, I couldn’t visit. The manager and her staff are all ‘stars’ in my opinion and I will always be indebted to them.

I am very pleased with how the home has handled the current situation, I have spoken to and seen my grandma on skype several times since we went into lockdown. I have also stood in the car park and waved through the window. The Troc and its staff have been very kind and considerate, informing us all the time how gran is doing and always letting us call and Skype when they can. I think they are a fantastic home anyway with great staff but they have gone above and beyond recently and I know gran is in the best possible place. Can't wait to see her and all of you very soon.

The Troc provide excellent care for my mother in law who has dementia. She has been under their care for over 2 years now, she is always well presented, the carers spend time to do her hair and dress her well. She eats well and is very happy there. We are regularly updated with any information regarding the home or her care. All in all a warm friendly care home that I would not hesitate to recommend!

Confident care is good during the lockdown. Sorry my husband is cooped up in his completely uninspiring bedroom. In the last week, he was moved to another room with a better outlook and decor. The food is being prepared by staff untrained in cooking and nutrition.

We are very pleased with The Troc care home. My Mum always looks happy when my brother and I visit. She absolutely loves the food. Her bedroom and shower are always clean. When we visit mum she is always clean. It is a lovely home. The garden is a nice place to sit in when the sun shines. Thank you all very much.

Overall satisfied with the level of care. One thing I would say is when I come visiting after lunch, I notice some of the residents are still sitting at the dinner table. Those chairs are not comfortable to be sitting for long periods of time. They need to be in a comfy chair to relax. Also, laundry, even if you put names on all items of clothing, some still go missing.

The Troc Residential Home is an extremely friendly, caring, homely and clean establishment which I visit on a weekly basis. As a musician playing my keyboard, I have an hours singalong with the residents which I absolutely love and I can see the residents are clearly engaged in this activity. The Activities Coordinator encourages all the residents to join in. Other positive features in the home are the seasonal displays which are colourful, eye-catching and promote discussion for the residents. I enjoy talking to everyone and hearing their stories. There is always a warm, friendly atmosphere and the residents all appear to be very relaxed and well cared for. The Manager and her staff always make me feel very welcome. Visiting the Troc is the highlight of my week. I would highly recommend this residential home.

The Troc is not a purpose-built care home. It has two lounges, one of which is large and airy and looks out onto the garden. This layout suits my mother whose main occupation these days is people watching. She enjoys the food and is encouraged to drink, which means that she has not had a UTI in the seven months she has been a resident (having had several in the past). The staff treat her with dignity and do well in understanding her wishes given that she is unable to speak clearly. The manager is 'hands-on', approachable and open to suggestions for improvement and runs the home in a professional, yet friendly manner.

My relative was treated with care and dignity from admission until her death. I visited almost daily and observed other residents and most of the staff. Residents were treated as individuals their likes and dislikes were acted upon. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed and visitors made very welcome. All queries re care/needs were addressed promptly, willingly and honestly. All the rooms were warm, drinks and food were provided regularly and meds were dispensed safely.
