Having to put one parent into a care home is hard enough, but letting Mum, then Dad, go into care was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Seeing the way everyone cares for them in their new home, plus seeing how well they now both look, has confirmed that this awful decision was definitely the right one. Thank you to every one of the brilliant team at Westwood!

As Worksop residents, we remember Westwood being built by the County Council and it has always had an excellent reputation. Since my father-in-law has lived alone (following the death of his wife two years ago) he has become increasingly frail. He is 95-years-old and although family cared for him during lockdown, he contracted Covid. He requested Westwood when he left the hospital and he has since thrived. Excellent food, lovely staff. We know now he is safe.

Hello, thank you for the review. We understand the challenges brought on by the pandemic and we are so grateful that you remain satisfied with your father-in-law's care. Thanks again for the positive feedback.

My mother was admitted to Westwood at short notice and received excellent personal care. Her health and mobility rapidly improved and she praised highly the hard-working, patient staff. Liaison with outside care providers is top-notch and the staff and management go the extra mile to reassure us, provide information and provide individually tailored care routines. Outstanding in all respects.

My wonderful stepfather has been a resident at Westwood since August 2020. It was a difficult step to take, but his transition has been faultless. We all miss him dearly but are warmed by fact that the staff are some of the most kind-hearted individuals I have had pleasure in dealing with. Many of them, I know he has already made attachments to and they are quickly becoming an extended family to him. For me, it's so important I am kept fully up to date with his health and wellbeing and communication with your staff is excellent, so I thank you kindly for that. This information then enables all the family to be kept up to date, via our own family chat group, so we all feel connected to him. I fully appreciate Westwood have had and continue to have, an extremely challenging role during such unprecedented times, however, your commitments to your residents has shone through. I'm sure I can speak on behalf of the family, to say we support you 100% and appreciate everything you do and continue to do for him.

Overall Experience

My cousin has been residing at Westwood for approximately three years, in this time he has had the best care from the kind and considerate staff, they understand his needs and make sure he has enough stimulation to occupy his mind. He is always clean and well dressed whenever I visit, I have also visited during meal times and there is a varied and substantial menu. The home is very well decorated, clean and comfortable, there is also entertainment for residents. My cousin has been encouraged to take an interest in gardening in the summer months as well. The staff are exceptional, so kind and the manager is understanding and always available to discuss any issues. I would not hesitate to recommend Westwood to anyone considering a residential care home.

My mum was looked after very well while here. On my visit today the facilities are tremendous, the staff are so attentive to the residents, the residents all have smiles on their faces and that speaks volumes. I would defiantly recommend this home as a home from home to anyone with bells on. Thank you!

Overall Experience
Our Mum has been a resident in Westwood for over 5 years. During her time there she has been well cared for and has made good relationships with staff members. She is treated with respect and dignity and is kept clean and tidy.
Due to the Covid 19 outbreak, Westwood decided to close their doors early (before the announcement from the Government) which meant that all patients and staff remained Covid free. All the staff worked really hard to ensure the safety of the residents and kept us regularly updated by txt and email of the situation. Some staff members kindly FaceTimed and let us speak to Mum over the phone. This was invaluable to us at a very worrying time.
During the lockdown period, mum has been having her hair done by staff members and they have been taking mum into the garden where she has been enjoying snacks and drinks with other residents and enjoying the fresh air.

Overall we are very happy with the care our Mum receives from the staff at Westwood.

I cannot fault Westwood in the way they look after my friend with dignity and care. The staff are always friendly and do their utmost to make sure they attend to my friend's requests as quickly as possible. The food always looks and smells very good and the menu seems to change regularly. There are also lots of activities in the day room if you wish to partake. All in all very good, carry on the good work.

My family and I are very happy with the care given to our Grandma. The staff are always so kind and helpful when I visit and when I call to speak to my Grandma. They always do their best to help me to get to speak to her as I live 90miles away and I like to be able to speak to her regularly. It has been so lovely and meant such a lot to me to be able to have video calls, that have been so kindly arranged on a weekly basis and so efficiently managed by their well-being lead, who always promptly messages me back and has kindly sent photos of my Grandma to me when my Grandma has asked her, which is so lovely. The care team are doing such a fantastic job, especially during this difficult time we are in but still ensuring my Grandma is being looked after and receiving the care she needs as well as looking after her well being and providing the video calls so she still gets to see her family. I can’t thank them enough for what they are doing, they are amazing and are some of our countries heroes.

Mum was placed on an assessment unit. I feel the physio was not sufficient and ceased too soon.
Some staff were not understanding of Mum's needs. The handover book was clearly not read by staff.

Understaffed, dirty pots in the dining room and kitchen and 'slop bucket' on window sill. Catheter left to bursting point. Night catheter left on the floor in the bathroom with urine still in it during the day. Clothes went missing. Hearing aids not turned on. Left waiting for the toilet. Left in dark in room. No buzzer at times.

Overall my mum has been well cared for over the past years, but I feel a lot of the staff are not trained in dementia and don't have a proper understanding of it.

Lunchtimes can be tricky as there isn't enough staff to make sure residents are eating enough and a lot of them, including Mum, are losing weight although the meals are very good. It's always warm and friendly and I visit almost everyday. I have nothing to compare the home with so overall it's satisfactory.

The staff were absolutely brilliant at settling my mum into Westwood. She was really anxious about moving in and now she doesn't want to come home. She was supported well to integrate into life at Westwood and has made new friends. We have all seen mum grow a new enthusiasm for life. We feel like we have the real mum back and that Alzheimers doesn't have to rob her of a happy life.

My mother was placed in the home as an emergency measure from hospital, since being in care, there has been a dramatic improvement in her general health and wellbeing.
Staff are friendly and attentive, and standards of cleanliness are very good, despite my mother putting her dirty clothes in with the clean ones, which is, of course, her doing in line with her dementia. I don't expect the staff to rummage through her things to find out which is which.

My mother has now expressed a wish to stay in Westwood, she likes it that much, which is a far cry from her initial reaction when she first arrived, this is a credit to the staff and management of the home, who aspire to the best of care and the highest of standards.
