Upon leaving education, I began my career in children’s social care before taking time out to have my children. I later returned to work in adult social care and joined Monarch Healthcare in 2018 as a Care Assistant. From there, I progressed through the organisation into Senior Care Assistant, Team Leader, Deputy Manager, and now my current role as Home Manager. Alongside my career progression, I completed my Level 3 in Health and Social Care and my Level 5 in Leadership and Management.
My inspiration to work in care came from supporting my Grandma with care in the community. Through that experience, I saw how good support enabled her to remain at home and receive end-of-life care in the way she wanted, which had a lasting impact on me. What I enjoy most about my role is that no two days are ever the same. I never know what I will be faced with, and I value the opportunity to make even a small difference to someone’s day, as simple gestures can have a big impact on residents’ well-being.
One of my key strengths is medication management, which is an area I am particularly passionate about. I enjoy supporting audits, working with the Integrated Care Board during visits, and ensuring staff are confident and well-trained in medication procedures, including understanding side effects to keep residents safe. I also have a strong interest in supporting residents living with dementia in non-medication-based ways, using meaningful activities and distraction techniques to reduce anxiety and agitation.
My approach to supporting residents, families, and my team is to treat everyone as an individual. I take time to listen, validate feelings, and work collaboratively to find solutions to any concerns. I believe in being open, positive, and transparent, and in learning from every situation. As a team, I feel it is important that we reflect on experiences, take forward lessons learned, and continuously improve the care we provide.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like shopping, going on day trips to local parks, and taking short breaks away when I can.
