Mum was only in for just over 8 week before sadly passing away. Although she felt too unwell to join in with most activities she liked to be invited to them. She always spoke well of all the staff. Her appetite was very poor but she said what she managed to eat was very nice and she liked the choices.
She liked the view from her room

My mother in law went into Ferndene after breaking her hip. She was in the home for nearly nine months until her recent death. I can only say that in that time she was treated with the utmost care and compassion. Her needs were well met. If I wanted to discuss anything members of staff always gave me
their time and responded to my questions. Thankyou

From the first day Mum was welcomed warmly , put at ease and given a loving home . A massive move for her leaving her home with dementia and also being very unwell .
Thinking she was going in for terminal care , what a surprise when she perked up , started eating , mobilizing independently and enjoying
the company of both residents and staff .
She truly had a few lovely months when she was very happy .
Helping staff with " cleaning" and " looking after her patients " having spent a life always being busy and a career in nursing .
The staff encouraged and allowed her to potter around .
Mum was also a night owl at times , imagine our surprise when our " poorly " mum was now staying up late and listening to reggae music with another resident , and if food was wanted even late into the night it was provided .
Mum slowly deteriorated, dementia and a great age eventually caught up with her , but even when bed bound had such fabulous care we could not have asked for more. Thank you.

The Poplars Nursing & Residential Care Home

My Mum was in temporary residential care here from the end of March 2025 to the end of July 2025.
The care she received from the moment she arrived to the moment she left was first class. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Her mental health improved significantly whilst there. She became more outgoing
and made friends and joined in the activities. Previously she was in her own home with carers visiting four times a day.
The only reason we moved her was to be closer to family. The staff were all professional and a pleasure to talk to, If we had any concerns they would always listen to us.
The whole family are very grateful for the care and understanding that received whilst there.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to anyone.

Clifton Manor Nursing Home

from Zeid B (Grandson of Resident) published on 4 August 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Clifton Manor cared for my grandmother from June 2023 to June 2025 - a full two years - and in that time, the quality of care she received was truly exceptional. She had previously spent time in two other care homes, both with newer facilities, but the staff there couldn't compare to those at Clifton
Manor. What really matters in care is the people, and in this respect, Clifton Manor stands out. The nursing staff were not only highly skilled but also warm, professional, and compassionate. They treated my grandmother with dignity, respect, and genuine kindness every single day. My mother visited daily and quickly formed close bonds with many of the staff. They were always friendly, welcoming, and most importantly, receptive to her feedback. It was clear they were committed to providing the very best care possible, and they worked closely with us to ensure my grandmother's individual needs were always understood and met. We are incredibly grateful for everything they did.

We couldn't have picked a better home for my dad, the staff are all absolutely wonderful and go above and beyond for the residents. Even when he's unwell he still has a smile for some staff members and it's the most beautiful smile that tells us just how happy he is and that we made the right decision
even if it was a hard one. The amount of activities they do for both residents and their families is just amazing and it really does help having these social events to be able to talk to others who are experiencing the same. We especially love the Forgetful Me Not Cafe held each month where families get together for coffee, cake and chats and updates on what's going on or upcoming events. My favourite has to be the seaside/summer event where we all get to go and sit in the garden and chat and play games and listen to music. Last year a resident that didn't really talk much and can't get around as well as others sang an old song into the mic of the singer and it brought tears to my eyes.

My dad was in Clifton manor for over 1 year he had dementia.
Clifton manor was so caring and helpful with helping us transition my dad from living with us to permanently to living at Clifton manor as we felt guilty for having to make that decision.
The home is amazing and the staff was so lovely
with my dad making him feel comfortable and happy he was always smiling and singing with them they are so caring and treated him like he was one of their family.
The home is really clean and the food is amazing my dad actually put weight on.
My dad had his birthday there and they made a cake and sang to him and made him feel really special.
They always make family welcome when you want to visit and look after you as well in the process.
Thank you Clifton manor for looking after me and my dad you are all amazing.

My mum went to Poplars for emergency care. She was there for a few months in the end. Everyone was so supportive in a very difficult situation because of her dementia. She went from telling me frequently each day that she wanted to go home, to giving tearful goodbyes and hugs to everyone when she was
moved to a permanent home. I felt that attention was paid to my mum and her needs in a very individual way, it was recognised that she liked to help and spend as much time ouside as possible. All this contributed enormously to her settling in to her new home. I can't thank Poplars enough for what they have done.

My husband has only been a resident in Haddon House for a few weeks, but he has settled really well which is credit to the hard working staff. The home is very friendly and welcoming and the residents are well cared for in a safe homely environment. The domestic team work hard to get clothes laundered
and back in wardrobes on a daily basis. The activity team are dedicated and work tirelessly focusing on the individual residents' interests. The experienced care staff are always on hand to help with any requests. I feel reassured that my husband is being well looked after.

Very many thanks to the management team, the nursing staff, the carers and the ladies who carry out regular activities for the residents at Poplars, all of whom look after my husband with kindness, empathy, respect and professionalism: all the staff genuinely care for the residents and their well-being.
Not forgetting the cleaning and the dining staff who also make you feel welcome: a smile, a hello and a wave go a long way.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Poplars to anyone who is considering a place for their loved one, Poplars is a happy, friendly care home with a lovely atmosphere with caring and approachable staff and management.

Dad moved into Poplars after being discharged from hospital following a fall in January 2025. He stayed there until the end of May 2025. He has now moved back home. It was the perfect place for him to regain his health and confidence. He was incredibly well looked after during his stay. Initially he
found the adjustment difficult but the staff were extremely good at helping him settle. They looked after all his needs (including re-registering him with a new GP) taking a lot of pressure off family members. He formed a good bond with a number of staff members. He's pleased to be back at home but if his circumstances change we would not hesitate in seeking Poplars help again. From a personal perspective, I found the management team incredibly helpful. Their confidence and support took a weight off my mind and gave our whole family comfort in Dad's care and wellbeing.

I can only say good things about The Poplars. My mom has been residing there since November 2023, and she has recieved fantastic care from everyone who is involved in her care, from the owners, nursing team, carers, chefs, laundry & domestic teams. If I ever have a problem or concern, I know if I contact
the home the problem will be sorted without any delay. Mom is always clean & tidy, she has her hair and finger nails done by the hairdresser every week, which is something she used to do when she could live independently. There is regular entertainment, singers, dancers, visits from pets etc. We take our dog to see her when we visit which she also enjoys.
The bedrooms are kept spotless, as are the sitting rooms & dining room. The meals look & smell delicious, Mom eats everything put in front of her.
All in all, I don't think we could have found a better home for her to live in.
