My mum has settled in well at Woodlands and is very happy. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Nothing is too much trouble and they make sure to inform me of anything to do with her health and care.
The menu on offer each day is wonderful and if my mum doesn't eat or like what is on offer,
there is always an alternative.
Not all the activities are to my mums liking and recently (due to illness) she has complained of there not being much to do but on the whole it is good.
There have been a few occasions (generally at the weekend) when I have been kept waiting to be let in but other than that, I think Woodlands nursing home and staff are great.

All the carers are great with my mum. She has started having baths instead of showers and she seems to like them better. She likes trips out and hopefully she will be taken out a little more in the future. They go to garden centres etc. Although my mum has Alzheimer's and doesn't really know me (or
anyone) anymore, when I ask if she is ok and happy she does reply 'yes'. If mum is happy then so am I. I special shout out to Katie, Kim, and Paula.

My mother was moved to The Woodlands recently after a bad experience at another care home, where they didn't give her the right kind of care she needed. She ended up having a fall and was returned to hospital. After this, she was put on end-of-life and moved to Woodlands.
This home is the complete
opposite of the other home. All the staff were friendly, polite and nothing was too much trouble for us or my mum.
I am a manager myself and couldn't find fault with any of the service given to my mum. The decoration may look tired and could do with refreshing but it was very clean and tidy everywhere. And yes, they may have had days where they may have been short-staffed but this did not reflect on the service they gave.
My mum has recently passed away. On the night she did, she was treated with respect and dignity, as she always was.
So I can only thank all the staff for the care she received, even though it was just for a short while.
So again, thank you.

My mother was admitted to The Woodlands for end-of-life care after a bad fall at another home. The quality of care that she received was exceptional! I can not thank everyone that works there enough for there compassion and help with my mum, they truly are wonderful.
Nothing is too much trouble for
them, even I was taken care of when I visited.
Mum passed away and they were there to make sure everything was just right for her and after, they gave me a sympathy card with a pack of forget me not seeds to plant in her memory, so thoughtful.

My father was in Woodlands Care Home from July 2023 and during that time deteriorated rapidly. He had a bed sore which was not treated - he was left for long periods of time in a chair rather than being regularly moved. He lost 10% of his body weight and refused to eat food which was often given to
him uncut which was required due to his Parkinsons and a broken wrist. We had meetings arranged with external nurses for which the Woodland's nursing staff didn't attend or couldn't use the laptop to obtain his notes.
We moved our father to an alternative care home at the end of November - this new home have arranged physiotherapy which was cancelled at Woodlands. He is now eating more and the food is cut up for him without having to request it. More importantly, they are actively treating his bedsore and moving him every 2 hours which wasn't happening at Woodlands.

The staff at Woodlands are exceptional. They are extremely welcoming and supportive, open to questions and willing to go the extra mile to help. Sometimes it really feels homely rather than institutional. Despite having dementia my mother is very sociable and she relishes the activities which the co-ordinations
put on every day. I have even heard her laugh and giggle whilst doing activities - something I thought I would never hear again. She was also taken on a visit to the garden centre, again this was something I never thought I would see again.
The home isn’t perfect. What home is? Sometimes it seems short-staffed. But I would never doubt the care and support that the staff offer. I am really glad that my mum is being looked after in Woodlands and I enjoy visiting her there.

During my father's time in Woodlands, he gradually deteriorated, he suffered from several UTIs, lost a significant amount of weight and had several pressure sores. When questioned about his health the nurses in charge were either oblivious to his current condition or defensive with their response.
Generally
the care staff have been helpful and considerate, although they had a tendency to sugarcoat their opinion of how well Dad was doing.
When visiting, we would often find him in clothes that were not his own and we have been asked on several occasions if we can identify items of clothing, as they were not sure to whom they belonged.
Our interaction with the care manager has been at best confrontational; she is aggressive, difficult and we believe she has been actively working against us in our attempt to get funding for Dad’s care.
The home itself is cold, poorly decorated and suffers from a very depressing atmosphere. The residents are not encouraged to have any form of normal life.

The staff at Woodlands go above and beyond to look after all their residents including my mother. This is difficult in some cases as all the residents have challenges with their health. The staff treat us like family as well, they keep us informed of every aspect of Mum's care. We as a family cannot
praise all of their hard work and caring enough for both Mum and us as a family at this difficult time.

Pleasant, friendly staff. Mum seems comfortable and happy there, any problems we have had in the past regarding care have been satisfactorily resolved. The room is decorated lovely and bright.
Visiting is easy and anytime.

I visit my mother daily and although she is very confused, seems settled. If I have any queries staff are always helpful. I am always kept informed of any falls or illnesses which means a lot to me as my mother is in palliative care and I worry all the time about how she is. I'm so grateful to all the
staff that care for my mother on a daily basis and she is always well dressed and clean.

I just wanted to say how happy we are with the service Dad has been getting, particularly during the lockdown. He has been kept safe throughout, and the staff have bent over backwards to ensure that Dad has had good and regular contact with us. A special thank you to the two ladies for the video calls
and for helping us to make sure he has everything he needs. Thank you.

My mother has Alzheimer's, and it has been very hard with Covid to get to see her. With restrictions easing a little. I visited her last Friday, she is being looked after so well by The Woodlands, she is as bright as a button and seems so settled there. Whatever they are doing is working; they are very
caring, which shows whenever to visit or speak to them. All the staff have a smile for the residents as well as the family. A special thank you to one lady who always makes me and mum feel comfortable. Keep up the good work!

My mother was diagnosed with dementia and passed away peacefully at The Woodlands nursing home Ripley on the 15th of December 2020. She was always happy and contented there and had fun with the staff and residence. We cannot praise the nursing staff and helpers high enough. Thank you for making my mother's
last years so lovely.

Current Review Score: 7.7 (7.691)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.7 (7.691) out of 10 for The Woodlands is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.6 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.566 for The Woodlands is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (3 Poors x 2) + (21 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 76 Ratings = 3.566
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Woodlands is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.625
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
