After finding ourselves in quite a desperate situation and needing respite care for my mother in law, I rang Stoneswood. The deputy manager was so empathetic/sympathetic and informative of what the home could offer. Within a week of calling we chose Stoneswood and my mother in law is now in on a permanent basis as the care is excellent. She is thriving in there with the care of the staff with lots of activities to keep her stimulated and inclusive. Would highly recommend for any loved one.

I completed an Social Services review with him recently and his responses showed he is happy with the standard of care. He is well fed and enjoys the food. Generally care is good and residents are encouraged to join in social activities, but, my mother-in-law rarely takes part in these organised activities even when we are present. She subsequently does not have anything to fill her time as she is reliant on one to one communication, mainly from family. I would like more advice from staff. I feel she may need a keyworker, but am not sure whether she merits one as she is presently quiet mobile and independent.

It's a very welcoming home from when you arrive at reception. The home and gardens are well looked after, clean and welcoming. My aunt is well cared for in every respect. She is treated with respect, and dignity at all times by all the staff, they are kind and caring at all times. She is allowed to...
The food is good with plenty of choice for the residents and they are given this choice which is very important. There are snacks available at all times in the dining room for the residents to access all day. As she wanders so much I was happy to see a pressure mat at the side of her bed that will alert staff if she gets out of bed or falls in the night. The staff have always been polite and respectful whilst caring for the residents and use the appropriate equipment when necessary.

Mum has been resident at Stoneswood since May 2022. Although she and I were anxious about her move to Stoneswood, the staff really helped to make the move smooth. Mum has never had many hobbies, walking being her main one, but she is encouraged to join in with the many activities that have been taking place over the last few months. Mum particularly enjoys the outings both locally and farther afield. The staff are very welcoming and caring with all residents. They have looked after Mum and encouraged her to maintain some independence. Stoneswood is in beautiful grounds that are well maintained and easily accessible for Mum to walk with relatives. The use of the lodge as a coffee stop whilst out walking is perfect. I really enjoy my visits with Mum as she is happy and content. I feel we have quality time together without any worry.

Sometimes, it feels like they are short of senior carers, and there seems to be a lot of staff turnover, so it’s difficult to get to know who does what. But most of the regular careers are lovely and very friendly. I am really hoping the new manager stays and is a success.

My mum has been a resident of Stoneswood since July 2021. It was a major decision on my behalf to accept that Mum was going to need full time care due to her increasing dementia. When Autograph took over the running of the home, I was unsure of how things might change in the light of how my mum’s needs would be managed. However, it has been lovely to see how my mum has been encouraged to take part in the many activities which the Stoneswood staff have planned. This month I accompanied Mum on an evening coach trip to Blackpool. Everything ran so well due to the time and effort put in by the staff. I never thought I’d see Mum sitting in a café eating fish and chips before being driven through the illuminations! I am fortunate that I have total trust in the staff and how they care for Mum. Nothing is too much trouble for them when I call in to see her or when I ring daily to ask how she has been presenting. I am happy and confident that Stoneswood are able to continue caring for Mum.

My mum settled in here very quickly, and is far happier than she was at home. The staff are very friendly and caring, with plenty of activities to keep my mum occupied. The home is always clean and tidy with a really happy atmosphere. It was easy to get her room set up to be familiar to her, making the move in easy and low stress. We are even allowed to bring her favourite four legged friends to visit! I would recommend Stoneswood to anyone needing care for an elderly relative. We wish we’d moved her in earlier.

I have worked in the care sector for nearly 18 years, building my career through a genuine passion for supporting and making a difference to people’s lives.
My journey originally began as a bricklayer, but my career path changed when I would hear my mum come home from work and talk about her day and the people she had helped. Hearing the difference she was making inspired me to pursue a career in care, and I quickly discovered that caring was something I truly loved and was passionate about.
I began my career as a Care Assistant before progressing to Shift Leader, Team Leader and then Care Manager, where I gained valuable experience managing both residential and nursing services.
Becoming a Nursing Associate was a long-term ambition of mine, driven by my passion for nursing and my desire to further develop my knowledge and skills. After gaining my Nursing Associate PIN, I continued to progress professionally, managing a nursing dementia unit alongside a residential unit.
I then took on the role of Deputy Manager at Stoneswood, as I wanted to challenge myself, broaden my experience and continue developing as a leader. I have since progressed into my current role as Home Manager, which I am extremely proud of.

I left school at 16 with no qualifications, but I learnt very early in life that hard work, honesty and professionalism are the keys to a good career. I’ve had lots of different commercial roles over the years, working for both small businesses and large multinational companies.
One of my proudest professional achievements was taking on a struggling business and, through sheer hard work, determination and tenacity, turning it into a successful company. I eventually sold the business, which gave me the opportunity to semi-retire, although I’ve never been very good at taking things easy!
Caring for people has always been a big part of my life. I was the main carer for both my own parents and my husband’s parents, supporting them through illnesses including cancer, strokes and Parkinson’s. Those experiences gave me a real love and empathy for older people and taught me just how important kindness, patience, dignity and a listening ear can be.
So, when I decided I wanted to do a little work again, the care sector felt like a natural fit. I love chatting with the residents, getting to know them, hearing their stories and having a laugh with them. I really enjoy the social side of my role and hope that when people walk through our doors, they feel welcomed and cared for.
I’m a great believer in “show up, don’t show off.” I’ll always give my best, work hard and try to make a difference, even when perhaps I should be taking things a little easier!
Outside of work, my husband and I love living in beautiful Saddleworth. We’re very sociable and love meeting up with the friends we’ve made over the years, but most of all we love spending time with our family.
