My mum has been at Bruce Lodge for over 4 years now and continues in good health physically, despite quite considerable setbacks, including a broken neck just over a year ago. After a prolonged stay in hospital, mum returned to Bruce Lodge having lost continence for the first time and had deteriorated
mentally.
Now she has regained continence and although more confused in her speech, she continues to be largely responsive and interactive, particularly on a one to one basis. I applaud the staff for the diligence and patience in helping her regain these important facilities.

Staff cope very well with dementia and all it's problems. Also have good relation with the resident's families. More stimulation needed but that is not the fault of the staff. Needs a specialist.

Bruce Lodge has a very friendly and homely feel to it and the staff are fantastic!. They are approachable , always on hand, caring, understanding, tolerant, sympathetic and if there is a problem they find a solution. This is a breath of fresh air after previous care homes I have experienced.

The staff at Bruce Lodge were excellent. I was very pleased with the way mum was looked after during the 3 and a half years she was there. The staff also kept me full informed of any problems or even minor health issues such as falls. In addition, the staff at Bruce Lodge were in regular contact with
me and were professional and courteous at all times.

Staff at Bruce Lodge are very kind and caring. They are always busy but seem concerned for the welfare of all the residents. Bruce Lodge is comfortable and the rooms are maintained to a high standard. I like the way that there are different communal areas which are not all dominated by televisions.
There are regular social activities which residents can join in if they wish to.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum, now aged 91. has been at Bruce Lodge since October 2014, when her needs intensified and she was unable to remain at home. We live over 200 miles away and visiting her frequently is difficult. Mum has multiple illnesses, which include poor eyesight, arthritis which affect her mobility and safety,
and macular dementia which effects her comprehension of the world around her. This has made her more angry and volatile. She dislikes loud noise levels, and unfortunately, at first, the staff did not realise how aggressive it made her to be sat near a television. However, since then the staff have shown themselves to be very considerate, caring and capable. When we have visited, we have always found mum clean, well dressed and groomed, and well fed. Her room and en-suite bathroom were always tidy and spotless. When mum needed medical care, the staff have been prompt to act, and have notified the medical services and when necessary accompanied mum to the dentist or eye hospital. I cannot praise the staff more highly.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.750)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.750) out of 10 for Bruce Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.750 for Bruce Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (182 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 236 Ratings = 4.75
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bruce Lodge is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
