Cawood House provides spacious living accommodation for 42 residents with a large and beautiful garden, where residents are encouraged to spend time and a welcoming pub known as the Cawood Inn.

The team has worked hard to build a strong community reputation, maintaining positive relationships with residents and their loved ones through enhancing their quality of life.

The interior has been updated and tailored to suit the challenges faced by adults with dementia and has recently added a state-of-the-art spa bath designed to be both safe, accessible and enjoyable for elderly people.

The staff are really friendly and helpful, creating a supportive and interactive environment. They are constantly keeping relatives up to date with activities that residents have been involved with, sending you pictures and short videos if you are not able to make the events. Real quality service.

My father has been cared for by the outstanding team at Cawood House Care Home over the past two years. They continually ensure he receives a high standard of care, despite the changing challenges his dementia presents to the care team.
In addition to caring for our father, the team ensure consistent
and comprehensive communications with the family and continually identify methods including WhatsApp groups to share pictures of activities.
I am grateful for the peace of mind the Cawood House team provide, knowing how well my father is being looked after - thank you.

Made welcome by the staff from the beginning of my husband's stay.
It will be nice when we can visit more frequently and would like to see inside the home.
The answers to rooms and food and drink I'm unable to answer - not seen.

I have only been visiting Cawood House Care Home since November so have only seen the visiting room and reception. The staff are always very helpful and have been supportive of me as well as Mum.
The staff provide plenty of activities to keep the residents busy and they take time to get to know them.
Mum tells me the food is very good and that she has a lovely room. I look forward to seeing it when I can.

Always friendly and helpful carers - look after my mum so well - I am very happy with the care she receives. The team is always on hand for me to ask any questions.
They worked very hard to keep Covid out of the home.

My grandad is a resident, he has settled well and this is down to the amazing staff. They are caring, bubbly, very welcoming, and patient. My grandad is sociable, however, sometimes can be a bit cheeky, however, the staff are great and have a good laugh with him. He’s formed great friendships with staff
and residents. Thank you to all the staff, you’re all amazing.

My dad is very well looked after here at Cawood. He loves all the lovely ladies that look after him. He doesn't want to eat very much these days, but they know exactly what to tempt him with to get him eating. The home is always very clean, and the carers are always quick to spot someone that might
need to use the bathroom or might just need help with something in general. The food is very nice and varied and there are themed nights at certain times throughout the year. The garden area is really nice and safe to just wander around or just to sit and enjoy it. They will always keep you informed of any changes that you might need to be made aware of or if something needs reviewing. They have done a brilliant job in keeping my dad, and all the other residents, safe during the COVID outbreak. The management and staff are all very friendly and happy to answer any questions you might have and comfort you if needed. I'm so grateful to these lovely caring ladies. I would 100% recommend Cawood House.

First of all, I must say I am so impressed with Cawood that I always tell people how happy I am with the wonderful care my friend receives. But today oh my word! far exceeded my expectations. The Manager and Senior Assistant set up the visitor's lounge on the upper floor for myself and my friend to
have lunch together, complete with easy chairs in front of a tv, cushions, and lighting to create a calm and relaxed atmosphere. I was almost moved to tears. This home is above and beyond.

During my mother in law's stay, she has always been happy and content. Her weight has gone up and down with the dementia and keyworkers have communicated well with me on her needs re clothing and personal care. The home is always clean and smells nice. Management have changed but the care from Borough
Care is consistent. Cawood is bright, airy and decorated to a lovely standard. I turn up unannounced, ring up any time of day or throughout the night and receive a pleasant response. If I myself had to live in a home I would be happy for it to be Cawood House. Well done to all staff.

My toast certainly fell 'Butter up' when I was fortunate to have my wife cared for at Cawood House. All the staff are wonderfully caring and treat all residents with extreme dignity and sensitivity. I can't speak too highly of Cawood House and feel assured my wife is in good hands.
Yes, I am indeed
fortunate.

My wife was blessed to Cawood House. She has been in Cawood for 19 months. The care has been marvellous. My wife had TB, Meningitis at 17 years old in 1953, she was in hospital for three years. She is a fighter and now it is so sad that she suffers from dementia. Life is so strange is there a reason.

I was pleasantly surprised at the airy nature of the premises and was really happy with the care being carried out to my friend. The staff were helpful, friendly and very welcoming making a point of coming to speak to my friend and me when I arrived. A totally enjoyable experience.

Staff are all friendly and care for the residents. Food is excellent. I'm not sure that eating and relaxing is good in the same room. I would prefer a relaxing lounge and a proper dining room separate as it can look like a dumping ground. The TV could do with being fixed to the wall (chimney breast).
Could do with ceiling fans being put back in.

Clean, well organised, homely. I feel reassured that my dad is not lonely, as I know staff members visit his room regularly and also involve him in the activities taking place.
Quick action has taken place when my dad has required a nurse or doctor to visit.
Communication with patient and family has
been very good.
Staff are friendly and cheerful always professional.

My mother moved into the care home in November full time. Cawood House is a clean, friendly, happy home, with activities each day. Attention to detail seems to be very good. Staff are excellent and easy to approach. Staff are always on the go. Mum seems to be relaxed and happy, which puts our minds
at ease.

I would recommend this care home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.780)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.780) out of 10 for Cawood House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.780 for Cawood House is calculated as follows: ( (198 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 246 Ratings = 4.78
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cawood House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
