My mum has been at Shepley House since September 2019 and has settled in well. My wife and I and our family have been very impressed with the care and attention given to Mum, and with the standards of cleanliness, respectfulness, health and safety, and security. Mum likes the carers very much and enjoys
the food. Her room is comfortable, clean and with a good view of the garden, which she likes.
This year the COVID crisis has made it particularly difficult for staff and residents alike, with the huge restrictions on visiting creating a strange reduction in contact with family and friends, but though she has been aware of the reasons, Mum doesn’t seem to have been badly affected, thanks to the staff.
Mum has recently had a birthday, and the staff could not have given her a more special day, with a party, cake, a singer and more.
I consider ourselves very fortunate to have been put in touch with Shepley House when it became necessary for Mum to go into care.

All staff have been very helpful and professional especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Organised afternoon activities seem to be varied, thoughtful, and stimulating, particularly for residents with dementia and similar difficulties. Visits are always enjoyable. Thank you.

My mum has only recently become a resident at Shepley House on 18th August 2020 following an emergency admission to hospital from her home on 24th July 2020 and on discharge, it was deemed a care home to now be the most optimal placement for Mum due to her care needs increasing significantly. Mum has
vascular dementia. I could not have been more impressed and reassured by all the staff I have had contact with either via phone or face to face. They have all been welcoming, helpful, respectful and enthusiastic which is a complete credit to them (and the management team) at Shepley House especially working in these unprecedented circumstances. I have recently been able to make social distancing visits in the garden which has been wonderful for both myself and my mum. The staff have been extremely warm, cheerful and welcoming and especially kind and attentive to Mum. I cannot thank them enough for their care and kindness.

My mother is an Alzheimer’s patient with severe walking difficulties. Since entering Shepley House our mother has never been happier and content. The staff and care she receives is second to none, and the improvements in mum's walking abilities in the short time she has been in is tremendous.
It is
truly noticeable the staff who work here thoroughly love their jobs and engage physically and mentally with the residents by encouraging them to join in their activities.
The gardens and gazebos are beautiful. The food is excellent freshly cooked with plenty of choice.
Whenever we visit we always find the atmosphere at the home warm, fun and friendly. We would highly recommend Shepley house to anyone considering having their family member here. Thank you Shepley House for all your hard work, care and consideration.

The care home treats the residents really well. They go out to the local cafe and garden centre, which my mother-in-law really enjoys as she used to visit them a lot when her husband was alive. They have set up a very robust process for visiting recently, which works really well, and she loves seeing
her family again. She enjoys all the extra activities provided, especially the singers.

Generally very happy with my mother's care. Staff helpful and very caring. Activities within the home a real bonus and enjoyable. The garden a real necessity. It is brilliant to be able to let residents outside for fresh air and change of scenery.

I would like to pass on my Congratulations to Shepley.
I visited my mum yesterday in the gardens for the 1st time in person since the lockdown. It was so lovely to see mum, it really was and it was Shepley who made this possible.
The gardens and gazebo’s that they had put up were absolutely beautiful.
They have worked so hard. Everything was so lovely, tables in between the residents and relatives with flowers on. The attention to detail was first class and made the visit so pleasant. It really was beautiful, they have made the most of their garden and maximised it to its full potential.
Well done Shepley and thanks for all your hard work!
You really are an inspiration.

Just wanted to say thanks ever so much for sending through the pictures of mums birthday. She looks to be having a great day and feel sure it's Shepley people that make it all happen. In fact, I'm very much aware mums looking so much better since she arrived at Shepley. I've no doubt she feels safe
and secure in the home, that is a great comfort to know. Care in these difficult times must be a real test of courage, love and perseverance. We'll be applauding you all every Thursday because you all clearly do your very best.
Sincere thanks to you and all your team for caring.

My Mother was taken into Shepley House in April 2018. At first, she was very apprehensive and worried.
It has taken time for her to come to terms with being reliant on other people to help her with everyday tasks, getting dressed, washing, toilet, etc.

She seems usually very happy and jokes with

the staff.
I appreciate the entertainment and days out they put on, my Mother does really enjoy going out.

My Grandmother had advanced Dementia and used the day care services at Shepley House. She looked forward to going every day and was especially fond of the dinners that were provided.

Everyone we dealt with was absolutely lovely and extremely accommodating.
The food was fabulous, there is a lot of

space to move around, both inside and outside, which was important for my Gran, and they have an activities coordinator that provided activities and entertainment on a daily basis.

They have an on-site hairdresser, a visiting chiropodist and a regular GP round, that they included my Gran in if needed, which was a godsend as her dementia progressed.

We gradually increased the number of days and respite care my Gran received, it was very comforting knowing that she was as well looked after at Shepley House as she was at home.

Reply from Nerys Carpenter, Home Manager at Shepley HouseThank you for your wonderful comments. Gran was an absolute pleasure to care for and myself and team miss her greatly.

I feel my father is happy, settled and well cared for at Shepley House. The staff are attentive, friendly and fun. They provide a wide range of activities to stimulate and entertain them. The food is excellent, freshly cooked and plenty of choices available. If he is asleep, they always save him some
for later. Family and friends are welcome anytime and encouraged to join in the activities.

Staff are very helpful, friendly and go to great lengths to involve the residents and speak to them regularly.
However, the paperwork side is below par and, maybe, understaffed eg list of resident's possessions lost and never found; payment invoices only forthcoming after repeated reminders (from us)
etc.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.837)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.837) out of 10 for Shepley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.837 for Shepley House is calculated as follows: ( (248 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 288 Ratings = 4.837
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shepley House is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
