Connell Court offers warm and welcoming residential care for up to 37 residents in purpose-built, ensuite accommodation in beautiful Birkdale. The passionate team provides person-centred care in a home-from-home setting. Connell Court also offers short-term respite care.

As soon as you arrive, you'll see why people consider Connell Court a second family. A highly-trained team of dedicated and experienced staff works hard to ensure that the people in their care, and their friends and family, feel truly at home.

Staff encourage residents to live the life they want to lead: shared living/dining areas provide opportunities to interact with the tight-knit community, whilst they also encourage independence and pursuit of individual interests, through access to numerous activities as well as support with specific medical requirements.

Connell Court is close to lots of local amenities.

The activities team prepares a weekly schedule promoting physical, mental and social stimulation, offering group activities, as well as 1 to1 time. They value the stories and experiences of all residents in their care, getting to know each individual, their achievements and hobbies and will adapt their interests into the activities they provide.

In addition to a diverse diary of daily activities that take place in the home, they also focus on themed days, afternoon outings, local entertainment in the home, as well as meaningful moments. Every occasion is celebrated at Connell Court. Whether its a cream tea afternoon, a Ukelele lesson, or a talk on Charles Dickens, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

My mum has been at Connell Court for nearly two weeks now. I can't praise the home and staff enough, all the staff are warm, welcoming and friendly. I am confident mum is getting the best care possible. My sister and I visited many homes looking for a place for mum and this is head and shoulders above
the rest.

Connell Court provided very good care for my uncle. He was an extremely private man and his lack of interest in being sociable was largely because he was virtually blind so he struggled to connect easily with staff and residents. Nevertheless, the staff grew to understand him well - particularly one
of the senior staff who was exemplary in her level of support for him.

There is no other family member in the area of Birkdale who would need the care of Connell Court but I am grateful to all the all the staff there for providing a well led and managed home for my uncle. The staff were always warm, welcoming and informative when I visited and I was able to enjoy a number of meals with him which we both truly appreciated.

Reply from Anna Harvey, Home Manager at Connell CourtThank you so much for taking time out to complete this review, we very much appreciate the kind comments and we are very fortunate to have had your uncle in our care, he touched all of our lives. I will pass on your feedback to the team.

I am very pleased with the loving care my mother is receiving at Connell Court. She entered the care home in November 2018 and was made welcome by the staff and other residents right from the start. She has a medical condition which is closely evaluated by the staff and the GP or medics are called in
when necessary.
I am particularly pleased with the way they communicate with me. Both by email and telephone the staff keep me posted on anything and everything happening with my mother. Also, when I call the home to find out how she is doing, everyone who picks up the phone is fully aware of my mum's status. This is particularly important to me as I live abroad and cannot visit as much as I'd like to.
Reply from Jennifer Mcculloch, Administration Manager at Connell CourtThank you so much for your wonderful review of the care and support you receive at Connell Court. It is great to hear that you are happy with the consistency of care given to your mum. I will ensure your comments are shared amongst the team.

Mum spent four weeks respite at Connell Court following a fall and breaking her shoulder.
From the moment she arrived, she was made to feel very welcome. Her room was very clean, warm and comfortable. Mum said the meals were superb, excellent choice, well prepared and presented, wholesome and nutritious.
Well done chef.
The staff, from the manager to the carers, they couldn't do enough for mum, so caring and always had smiles on their faces. Nothing was too much trouble. A better team you couldn't wish to meet.
As a nurse myself, I couldn't have wished for a better place for mum to stay and recuperate.
A big heartfelt thank you to you all. Your care and compassion is outstanding.

Our late mother had spent the past ten years in this MHA home, chosen because she was a Methodist and enjoyed visits from people at the local church, spiritual support, activities, and worship in-house, to which she was able to contribute.
In the last weeks of her life, increasingly frail, she received
excellent care and love from all the staff without exception, regardless of their job description.
We spent the last week beside her bed, and could not praise enough their dedication and willingness to go to any lengths to look after her and indeed also us!

I find the home to be clean and a happy place with activities wide-ranging to suit most residents. The food always looks good.

Looking forward to the event on 4th November 2017. Enjoy attending the relatives meetings and find them very useful.

The manager and staff do their best to ensure that

everything runs smoothly and residents and residents are cared for.

I have 2 very good friends staying here, and what I have observed over the past 7 months is that all of the staff have a good and genuine, caring relationship with all people, whether it be residents or visitors. Both of my friends have a very comfortable and respectful way of life. They are very well
looked after. I would thoroughly recommend Connell Court, Southport to anyone looking for a clean and well-managed care home for their loved ones.

My 103-year-old mother was still living independently in a retirement flat until 2 months ago. We looked at a number of care homes, but we knew we had found the right place as soon as we walked through the door of Connell Court. It felt like "home". Mum had the choice of two rooms, both were great
but she chose the bigger one, which would have been our choice as well. Whilst she still feels that she is not ready for this change, and is still coming to terms with it, she, nevertheless, has nothing but praise for the place, the wonderful staff and the wonderful food. The staff have worked hard to settle her in.

My mother has lived at Connell Court for nearly two years. She had suffered a big operation on her intestines and has recovered well. She is well looked after, the food is well balanced and her medications are well controlled. The staff are patient and caring. She holds the senior staff in high regard.
She is now 96 and does not want to move anywhere else.

This home feels more like a 4-star hotel than a care home. The food and service is good and the regular open day events are fun and professionally run. There is never an old people smell or urine smell. It's kept scrupulously clean and tidy. My grandmother is treated with respect and love which is obvious.
Staff are kind, patient and efficient. Fantastic care home!

A warm welcome at the door by the manager to start with. Had afternoon tea the residents and all of them I spoke to were completely happy with the home. The surroundings were clean and modern with large PVC windows giving an airy atmosphere. I felt happy to be there and if I was 20 years older, I would
reside there. Best care home I've seen in Southport.

We had a good congregation of mostly ladies with just a couple of men. Everyone seemed to enjoy the service and sang well. We always have a good welcome, my husband and I, and a cup of coffee awaits us most months. All seemed well and keen to chat before and after the service. As always, we had
a good experience and always look forward to our monthly visits.

Residents are smartly turned out. Staff are caring and attentive. Home, gardens and grounds well maintained.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.987)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.987) out of 10 for Connell Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.987 for Connell Court is calculated as follows: ( (376 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 380 Ratings = 4.987
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Connell Court is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
