Connell Court offers warm and welcoming residential care for up to 37 residents in purpose-built, ensuite accommodation in beautiful Birkdale. The passionate team provides person-centred care in a home-from-home setting. Connell Court also offers short-term respite care.

As soon as you arrive, you'll see why people consider Connell Court a second family. A highly-trained team of dedicated and experienced staff works hard to ensure that the people in their care, and their friends and family, feel truly at home.

Staff encourage residents to live the life they want to lead: shared living/dining areas provide opportunities to interact with the tight-knit community, whilst they also encourage independence and pursuit of individual interests, through access to numerous activities as well as support with specific medical requirements.

Connell Court is close to lots of local amenities.

The activities team prepares a weekly schedule promoting physical, mental and social stimulation, offering group activities, as well as 1 to1 time. They value the stories and experiences of all residents in their care, getting to know each individual, their achievements and hobbies and will adapt their interests into the activities they provide.

In addition to a diverse diary of daily activities that take place in the home, they also focus on themed days, afternoon outings, local entertainment in the home, as well as meaningful moments. Every occasion is celebrated at Connell Court. Whether its a cream tea afternoon, a Ukelele lesson, or a talk on Charles Dickens, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The care and understanding Mum received over the few years she lived in Connell Court were excellent. Unfortunately her health worsened over the last year but the staff helped her through this with patience and sensitivity until she passed away peacefully. They helped Mum keep her dignity and know
they would always be there for her.
Thanks to all the staff who do difficult work all the time but step up even more when times are difficult!

My mother lived at Connell Court for the best part of three years. I found the care and attention she received to be superb. Although I could not attend as much as my siblings due the distances involved, I spoke to my mum at least once a week. She always had good things to say about the home and staff.
In fact, many times during a videocall she was asked by members of staff if she wanted tea, coffee or any refreshments which was lovely to witness.

Sadly, my mum passed in November. The staff at Connel Court couldn't have been better. I stayed the night in a room close by to my mum and lost count of the times I was offered refreshments! During my mother's last hours, the staff were so supportive but at the same time professional and dignified. Thank you so much for making a difficult time easier and for looking after our mum so well.

To my wonderful mum, Connell court was quite simply 'home' where she felt respected, cherished and cared for. The incredible staff at Connell Court ensured that her physical, emotional and spiritual needs were met right up to the time when she sadly passed away. They also extended that same care to
her family and made sure we were fed , watered and had a place to lay our head in her final days.
The care that she received was truly outstanding and it was also rare day indeed when mum didn't say what a lovely meal she had eaten that day! Nothing was ever too much trouble! You are all doing an amazing job.
Thank you all so much for looking after my mum with such loving care.

My experience of Connell Court has covered just over 5 years. Firstly for my mother then mother in law .
Both mothers received the best care possible during their stays even after prolonged hospital stays when they were received back despite needing greater care. Connell Court had become their home
and they were welcomed back to their family there , the staff adjusted to their extra needs .
My mother was kept safe there during Covid .
Both mothers enjoyed their time there knowing they were safe , cared for and entertained wonderfully .
We were always popping in for parties , afternoon teas , cheese &wine dos , everything that people in their own homes might miss out on . The garden is also a wonderful space for residents to enjoy on their own or with help .
I would not hesitate to recommend to other friends for their family member and often have .
Well done to all the CC team , you work well together and for your residents.
Thank you all .

My friend lived at Connell Court for about two and a half years and in that time he had a new lease of life at a stage when he did not expect it! The team at Connell Court provided a new home for him at a crucial time in his life. They were warm, caring, professional and always went the extra mile
to look after him. He was able to make new friends, live in a safe environment and have all his needs met and it made a huge difference to my friend's life. There were trips out, social activities, no national day/feast day or occasion goes by unmarked without a celebration of some kind! Residents can choose how involved to get, with their own space to retreat to if needed. The home is well organised, well maintained, homely and comfortable. All the team were friendly, professional and supportive and during my friend's final weeks they could not have been more caring and supportive to him, me and my family. I would highly recommend this care home.

My mother Veronica had been a very happy resident at Connell Court for past nearly 3 years. She recently passed away after being cared for in Connell Court during her final illness.
Mum always referred to Connell Court as 'home', and repeatedly told all the family that she was so lucky to be there.
All members of the staff, from every department in the care home, treated my mum with love and respect. When she passed away, the carers were as sad as we were! I feel that the staff at Connell Court always tried to go the extra mile to help residents feel they are part of a big family. I would happily recommend this home to anyone worrying about entrusting their loved ones to full time care. It was reassuring to know that mum was being cared for even when we weren't able to be there with her. Thank you all!

The staff have been so kind and lovely and really helped Dad settle in. Friendship and care are important to Dad and he has received both in abundance. The staff take into account interests and hobbies. Dad enjoys the weekly Scrabble tournament and other games. Dad loves the garden and even planted
bulbs. The friendly neighbourhood cat is a firm favourite too! As a life-long Christian, Dad has been blessed beyond measure with the provision of services and pastoral support. Dad has enjoyed taking part in services, doing readings etc. - residents are very much encouraged to get involved with activities if they would like to. After 3 months Dad has made some lovely friends and especially enjoys all the meals (and yummy cakes and puddings!) - he has gained more confidence and mobility as well as putting on weight. As daughters we are not local and it has been so reassuring for us that Dad is so well cared for and looked after in every way.
Cannot recommend Connell Court highly enough

I attended the summer fair on Saturday 19th July.
It was such a warm, friendly and well organised event. Everybody seemed to be having fun. It was a great opportunity to speak to carers, support staff, acquaintancies and family, in a warm and friendly environment. It just adds to my belief that Dad
is being really well looked after, stimulated and encouraged in all he does under the exceptional care that Connell Court provides.

Connell Court is a well organised care setting with effective communication between different parts of the care team. The employment of two activity co ordinates says a lot about where the focus for service delivery lies.
Carers are responsive and respectful to service users and their families. Mealtimes
are well organised with catering staff asking each resident their preference for meals. The option to eat alone in their room is available.
There are open events held frequently throughout the year as well as the opportunity for people to go out on a coach trip or stay more local when they go out.

The care that my mother has had from the staff in Connell Court over the last 5+ years has been excellent.
Their encouragement to her in her first years there, encouraging her to walk, to keep going was reassuring. The events and activities were always well done, respectful and enjoyable for my mother.
In her later years as her needs increased, their attention to detail, personal care, and encouragement reassured me completely that she was in a good place with people who cared for her, as well as taking care of her.
I cannot praise the staff highly enough, they work very hard.

My mum came to Connell Court for a period of respite care. She was made to feel welcome and part of the community immediately. Everyone has treated here in a friendly and respectful manner. She was encouraged to participate in the range of activities but also given the space and privacy she needs in
her new situation. When asked she said all the staff were helpful and kind. She has also said she is less anxious as there is always someone there to help her if she needs help. Her room is always clean, laundry + personal hygiene of an excellent standard. She has now decided to stay at Connell Court permanently.

My mum has just completed her third respite stay at Connell Court. We can't praise the staff enough for the care they provide. My mum is always happy to go there and, if and when the time comes that she needs more permanent care, we would have no hesitation in using Connell Court.
Mum loves her food
and the menus are great. She appreciates the kitchen staff and wants to especially record how much she enjoyed all her meals.
The activities programme is very good and mum always comes home stimulated and chatting about the things she has got up to. This month she loved the Burns night activity and the chair hockey.
It is a massive comfort to me and my sister that she is so well looked after when she is in Connell Court for a temporary stay and I highly recommend the home and the staff for everything they do.

My sister and I visited Connell Court and immediately had a 'good feeling' about it. Mum was able to go for a few weeks respite and then made the decision to stay. She has been a resident for 8 months now. The staff have been wonderful and are very pro-active, if ever she has any care needs, contacting
the GP or relevant people as soon as they perceive a problem. They keep me fully updated on everything that is happening with her care. All the staff are very kind, caring and respectful towards Mum. There is a full programme of activities for her to take part in or not as she wishes. They have also held events involving family and friends, quiz evenings, afternoon tea, cheese and wine evening. We have complete peace of mind that she is in a good place and being well looked after.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.987)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.987) out of 10 for Connell Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.987 for Connell Court is calculated as follows: ( (376 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 380 Ratings = 4.987
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Connell Court is based on 32 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 32 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
