My Father was in Carmel lodge from dec 25 -march 9th 26 he had very late stage Alzheimer's myself and my sister went daily and were my dads voice , we felt like was he a burden to management and some staff , his care was less than adequate and not because of the staff as the majority were very caring just not enough of them but it was the way it was managed, we constantly had to ask for help ie to help us with our dad to get in and out of bed and general Personal hygiene which was very upsetting for us he was left in wet soiled underwear ( adult nappies ) regularly even though we were told he was changed every 2/3 hours sometimes we asked for help and just got handed a pair of gloves he had a few falls ( some not documented ) the care was poor due to being severely understaffed and sadly had an impact on our dad ,the manger had no empathy at all we felt like my dad was just a number This place seriously needs an inspection and overhaul
Thank you for taking the time to share this detailed feedback. We're really sorry to hear how upsetting this experience felt, and we take concerns of this nature extremely seriously.

My husband has been a resident since November 25 and I could not be more happy with the care he has received. Everyone, from management, care staff, housekeepers and cleaners are so lovely and treat him with dignity and respect. Everyone has a welcome smile when I visit and nothing is too much trouble. It's so hard when your loved one has to go into care but rest assured I feel happy that my husband will be well looked after, when my visit is over. Thank you, everyone.
Thank you for such a heartfelt review. It means so much to the whole team to know he feels so well cared for and that you feel reassured when you leave. Everyone here takes real pride in creating a warm, respectful environment, and your words truly mean a lot to us.
My father was admitted as an emergency admission two weeks ago from the time of arrival my father was treated wtih respect, empathy and professionalism. All staff are caring and supportive and have answered any questions openly and have shown commitment to resolve any issues. I am more than happy with the quality of service my father has received. I turn up at all hours and have always found staff to be attentive and professional at all times. Well done!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this lovely review. Your feedback means the world to us, I will make sure to pass it on to the rest of the team.
I can not thank all the staff enough for all the care, compassion and love they have given to my mother-in-law while she was in their care and the same care and love for my wife at this sad time, from the cleaners to carers/nurses and management you have all gone above and beyond in what you have done for my family and we will be forever grateful, we were so lucky finding such a wonderful care home for my mother-in-laws final days.
Thank you for being such great people.
Thank you for your kind review, we really do appreciate your words, and we will make sure to pass this on to our wider team.
On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the manager and his staff. A tour of the home was given, we were also introduced to catering and laundry staff. It certainly gave us a feeling that this home included ALL members of staff. My brother was treated with kindness and we, as a family, were assured on numerous occasions that all his complex needs would be professionally catered for. On numerous visits he has been clean, well dressed and has told me he really enjoys the food/drinks/social activities and it is 'like a hotel'. Such comments after his previous experiences has only reinforced the fact that we, as a family, made the right decision in choosing Carmel Lodge as he 'forever home'.
Thank you for your lovely review of Carmel Lodge. We pride ourselves on making everyone feel welcome and supported. As a home team, we strive to create a sense of family. I am so pleased your father is enjoying his time with us and finding our lifestyle programme engaging and fulfilling.
My husband was a resident at Carmel Lodge Care Home from 21.06.2024 until his death on 13.12.2024. From the day he arrived the staff treated him with great respect, dignity, interest and humour. After having 3 weeks in hospital, he improved dramatically, mentally and physically under their care. Sadly at the beginning of December he had another major vascular incident. Their palliative end of life care was amazing, going above and beyond what was necessary. My heartfelt thanks go to the manager and all his staff for ensuring my husbands end of life was peaceful and dignified. Thank you.
The staff have been consistently kind, warm and gentle with my wife. She has settled well into the home. They have also been welcoming and supportive of me through this transition.
My mother is very settled at the home and benefits from the routine and calm, caring help. This has helped her anxiety. The staff are very competent and caring. This includes the ancillary staff. I am kept informed appropriately as to my mother's health and care needs and what is happening in the home. There are opportunities for her to have her hair done, which she appreciates and other services such as chiropody and eye testing. The activities offered are entertaining in part for her - she is unlikely due to her condition and nature to join in all these.
I visit my Mother on a weekly basis and have always found her to be clean and content, more importantly, she had her own clothes on.
Thank you for the comment, I'm glad to hear this. We pride ourselves on making all of our residents feel comfortable and happy.
Although my husband has only been a resident for a short time, I have been very pleased with the care and attention he has received from the lovely, sensitive staff. The overall ethos stems from the excellent manager and her co-manager. This is reflected throughout all aspects of the care home. Because of this I can now relax, knowing he is in capable and experienced care.
Both myself and my family are very grateful and pleased with the care my Mother is receiving. The atmosphere at the home is cheerful and relaxed. My Mother is cared for with dignity and understanding. Good range of activities and care taken to ensure diet and fluid intake monitored. Wonderful staff. They keep me informed of any change in her health.
My father-in-law is a resident at the above care home, the home is very welcoming, clean, and secure. It was a sad day for all the family when we had to make the heartbreaking decision to place him in a home, but it was not healthy and from a safeguarding issue to have him at home with the mother-in-law as they both had different needs. The staff are friendly, professional, courteous, informative, and genuinely care for all in their care. I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks for looking after our father-in-law so well and he looks happy and content.
Thank you to everyone.
Overall, 80% of the staff are very caring and look after my mother very well. They are all very patient and the younger members of staff are very good.
The home itself is very good and staff are wonderful, easy to speak to and just get along with, from reception and upwards. I think they try their best to help residents as best they can, even when it seems they're short-staffed you can see that at times. We have all gone through difficult times, like Covid, and I thought all staff showed their conviction to their work.
I could not ask for better care!
My father has been treated with the utmost kindness and respect since he moved into the home. He settled in quickly and seemed happy and settled from the start. The staff are all very caring and compassionate and the overall standard of care is excellent. He really seems to enjoy the companionship of the other residents, often believing that he is on holiday - which can only be a good thing! I am especially grateful to the deputy matron, who goes above and beyond in her care. Thank you.
Made to feel welcome by all staff. You can feel the atmosphere as soon as you walk in the place, it's friendly and relaxing somehow at the same time. Nothing seems too much trouble from top to bottom and Mum looks good every time I visit! Care, food, etc. are excellent.
But it was the kindness shown which pleased me. The staff are wonderful, all of them.
Surprised the home does not have decaffeinated tea and coffee, caffeine is a stimulant and with thirty-six residents at least some of them will react badly to the caffeine. I personally cannot get to sleep until 2 or 3 am if I have caffeine. I use supermarket decaffeinated tea bags.
Thank you for your feedback, going forward we will ensure decaffeinated tea bags are ordered.
