Ferndale Mews Care Home

When we first brought my mam to the care home, we didn't know what to expect. I had an overwhelming feeling of guilt as I felt I was abandoning her, but after her being there a while I was so happy because she was happy, she was safe and so well looked after. I can't praise the staff enough.

Like all jobs some are better than other at tasks they perform, there are four or five who are very good at being carers. A couple who are not very good, the rest try but don't stand out like the good ones. I visit my wife every day so I know all the staff, overall I am happy they way she is treated. She is bed all the time now, her legs have lost there use and she has serious dementia. Nurses tend to her (sores etc) twice a week and regular visits from doctor.

No home is where you want your relatives to end up in, but this home had that open, clean welcoming feel full of friendly staff. After several visits, we always found this to be so and I could see that despite mum's failing health, she was being given the best care and treatment possible. It was obvious the staff were doing everything possible to give mum a comfortable home to live in. Unfortunately, mum became ill despite the best efforts of the staff and they always kept me informed of the ongoing situation. Due to her health problems, she has had to be moved out of the current care home part and I was pleased that she has been able to move into another part of the home group, the nursing group.
