Staff here are excellent. Very friendly and accommodating.
Day in day out when visiting my mum I see them dealing with the residents as if they are their own family.
The manager strives to put on as much entertainment as possible and the staff keep the residents engaged with regular activities.
Would
recommend this care home to anyone.

Thornhill House is an amazing care home,Christian and his staff always go the extra mile and nothing is ever too much trouble. The care they give my dad is outstanding, all the staff really care about his wellbeing and make sure he is safe and content which because of his dementia is not always easy.
Thornhill put on a three course meal for residents and their family on Christmas day which was fantastic, myself, my wife and dad had a great day, these times are precious and Thornhill understand this and really make an effort to make it special.
I can't emphasise enough the time, effort and care put in to make the residents life as good as it can be.
Reply from Jackie Brook, Head of Marketing and PR at Thornhill HouseThank you for such a meaningful and generous review. We're truly grateful for your kind words about Christian and the whole team, who work incredibly hard to ensure residents feel safe, content and genuinely cared for - especially when supporting people living with dementia.
We're delighted that you were able to share such a special Christmas Day together. Creating moments like these, where families can make precious memories, is so important to us, and it's wonderful to hear how much it meant to you. Your appreciation of the time, care and effort our team puts in means a great deal to everyone at Thornhill House. Thank you for trusting us with your dad's care.

Thornhill house is more than just a care home - it's a community and a family- moving into residential care shouldn't be the end and that's where thornhill excels. The manager and all of the staff have created a family environment where we are invited to join in and are able to spend time with our loved
ones.
The team have supported the wider family as well as my mum to ensure the transition was settled and are always on hand to listen and support
We know our mum is safe and cared for in the environment she needs to support her needs
The activity programme is vast and they regularly take the residents on days out / visits to shows and are involved with the wider community including the local schools and pub
The environment is clean and user friendly while maintaining a homely feel
Nothing is too much trouble and you are ALWAYS treated with respect and dignity
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend

Cannot praise the staff at Thornhill House enough. not only are they professional but you can clearly see they do the jobs they do out of love. Sadly my mum passed away in November after a 2 and a half stay. She had lots of medical and mental heath issues but she was treated with care, respect and love
by all the staff and i could not be more thankful... they really do put on a great time in there for the residents including singers, games, outings and lots more.
If any is looking for a care home for loved ones. Thornhill is definitely a must,
THANK YOU AGAIN EVERYONE X

Mum had been a resident at Thornhill for 8 years and had been cared for well by the staff. After breaking her hip in a fall and a stay in hospital, mum was returned to Thornhill where unfortunately she declined and passed away in September. However the care and compassion shown to mum in her final weeks
was second to none! The bed sore she had when she came out of hospital was almost gone because the staff turned her regularly. She was cared for by a small team of wonderful staff in her final days which gave us some comfort.
On the day of mum's funeral the manager held a small service at Thornhill for staff and fellow residents to say goodbye and treated us with respect.
Whilst it was a distressing time for us as a family to lose mum, we were happy with the care and dignity shown to her throughout her stay at Thornhill.
Reply from Jackie Brook, Head of Marketing and PR at Thornhill HouseThank you for sharing such a thoughtful review. We're truly sorry for your loss and are honoured to have cared for your mum for so many years. It means a great deal to hear that our team was able to support her - and your family - with compassion, dignity and respect during her final weeks. Your kind words will be shared with the team at Thornhill House.

When our Mum first moved into Thornhill House, I was naturally anxious about how she would adjust. From the very first day, the staff made both of us feel welcome, respected, and valued. They took the time to learn about Mum's history, her quirks, and the little things that make her smile.
The level
of care she receives is truly outstanding. The team are attentive without being overbearing, while always being on hand when needed. They treat her like family, not just a resident - and that's something you can't put a price on.
The home itself is warm, clean, and inviting. The recent redecoration has freshened up the home making it look more like a hotel than a care home. Activities are varied and engaging, from music afternoons to gentle exercise sessions.
Communication has also been excellent. I'm always kept informed of any changes in her health or routine, and the staff are approachable and happy to answer questions. It's reassuring to know she's in such capable, caring hands.

When choosing a care home for my mother-in-law, we wanted the very best - and Thornhill House stood out immediately with its highest possible rating from the CQC. From the moment we visited, we were impressed by the warmth, professionalism, and genuine compassion of the staff. Every team member treats
her with dignity, kindness, and patience, creating a safe, homely environment where she feels valued and respected. The home is spotless, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed for comfort and accessibility. Meals are delicious and tailored to residents' needs, and the wide range of activities keeps her engaged, happy, and socially connected. Communication with families is excellent, giving us complete peace of mind. We've seen such a positive difference in her quality of life since arriving at Thornhill House. It truly deserves its outstanding CQC rating for Caring and is a shining example of what a care home should be.

Dad spent the last 2 years of his life at Thornhill House and the care he received as second to none. The staff went above and beyond to ensure he was comfortable and safe as his dementia worsened.
Everything is centred around the residents needs from the food to entertainment to activities which
makes for a happy lively atmosphere. Dad's funeral left from the home and the service was so moving and personal - very special.

My Grandma was in Thornhill House from January 2025 until she passed away in April.

The staff at Thornhill House, as a whole are absolutely fantastic. Nothing was ever too much, whether it was for my Grandma or for my family.

My Grandma's death was sudden, although she'd been battling with her

illness for a while before she went to Thornhill I never saw her as happy as I did when she was there. Thornhill is truly a home away from home, they make you feel at ease, offer emotional support, aswell as maintaining a professional relationship with their service users, residents and their families.

I cannot thank them enough for making the last few months of her life enjoyable under the circumstances, even now she's gone myself and family still have a friendship with those at Thornhill House and that says everything about the care they put into what they do.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.900)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.900) out of 10 for Thornhill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 47 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for Thornhill House is calculated as follows: ( (537 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 558 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thornhill House is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
