The staff are truly amazing. I work nationwide. The care staff always make sure I am able to visit my relatives and try to suit my schedule for visits, not theirs.
The staff are always welcoming and friendly and always maintain an exceptional level of care towards my Nan. I do feel at ease and peace
of mind knowing my Nan is in such great care

Whenever I visit Thornhill I am always treated with the utmost respect and made to feel really welcome by the management and staff. I am amazed by all the activities and entertainment provided for the service users. The staff are always friendly and funny and show really good teamwork. Having worked

Thornhill is a wonderful care home. Mum has been a resident there now for two years and is very happy and settled. All staff go above and beyond in the care of all the residents. There is always something happening for the residents and families are warmly welcomed along too, singers, afternoon tea
and trips out to mention only a few things that are arranged. It has been a huge relief for my sisters and me to know that our mum is being looked after with love, kindness and consideration. The staff listen to any concerns about Mum we may have and deal with them promptly and considerately.
I would highly recommend Thornhill to anyone considering a care home for a family member.
Reply from Michael Smith, Head of Operations at Thornhill HouseThank you so much for your kind words, it really does help to boost morale to see that our efforts are appreciated. I will ensure that this is communicated to the team in our next staff meeting.

Until the passing of my mum, I could not fault the care and attention the staff and manager gave my mum and other residents. When my mum went into Thornhill House she was given back a life. On the day she passed, the manager stepped up ferrying our family to the care home and treating us all with respect
and compassion. I will never forget it, thank you.

Thornhill House Care Home took in my aunt on short notice when she was very low and unable to care for herself after being in hospital. They encouraged her in her mobility and built up her self-esteem. The home has good leadership and the staff are kind and compassionate. The atmosphere is lovely and
welcoming to residents and families. They supported my aunt in her personal growth so she was able to live back independently in the community. Even though she has now left, my family are now part of the Thornhill family and we have made many friends there and still visit with my aunt.

I am so grateful to the staff at Thornhill House for the fantastic care that my beautiful Grandma receives there. It is such a relief for us as a family to know that our Grandma is in the best hands possible, especially since we lost our Grandad who was also looked after by Thornhill House, as she is
clearly so content and happy. The fact that they could be together, when they weren't able to be in their own house anymore is something that was so special to us and it really means the world. You are all superstars and we will always be grateful for everything that you have done for us and our family. Thank you!

Mum moved into Thornhill House when dad died as her stage of dementia meant she couldn’t live alone in their own home. Me and my sisters were very worried about how she would manage the transition but Thornhill House staff were so friendly and thoughtful that Mum soon settled in. The activities and
emotional support of the staff has made it a happy move despite the difficult circumstances and we are very grateful!

Why choose this home is the question I am often asked the question. Mum has severe dementia she enjoys singing and dancing, the team organise singers where my mum can dance and sing with the staff, they have a community who are committed to engaging with the residents in the home. Sadly my mum was diagnosed
end of life last July but due to the amazing care staff who nursed her constantly for 3 weeks and intervention from district nursing she’s a little better. Thanks to all staff I really appreciate you looking after my mum.

My mother-in-law is in Darfield Thornhill House and the home recently held a coffee morning which I was invited to. Having been through the last two years of upset with Covid, it was amazing to be allowed into the home and see my wife’s mum. The welcome and atmosphere was incredible and it was a wonderful
morning to remember. The staff are amazing and are all polite and friendly. My mother-in-law is well looked after and safe and me and my wife can rest knowing that she has such brilliant care.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.900)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.900) out of 10 for Thornhill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 47 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for Thornhill House is calculated as follows: ( (537 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 558 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thornhill House is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
