My loved one has been here since last year. All the staff and management are absolutely brilliant, go out of their way to make sure our family member is well looked after, safe and happy. It's such a friendly warm place and always makes everyone feel at ease.

Nothing short of excellent.
My mum has been at Thornhill now for 8 months it's been a very challenging time health-wise but the care she's been given has been outstanding from all the staff in Thornhill.
Can't thank them enough.
Would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of looking for a care
home.

When I visit my friend he is always happy and well cared for by carers who do their absolute best. They care for people as individuals, no matter how challenging that might be.
My friend says Thornhill is his home and he never wants to live anywhere else.

I would just like to thank management and every single member of their wonderful staff. My Father was in the care of this wonderful home for just under 3 weeks to rehabilitate his back walking. Management and all staff could not do enough to make my Dad's stay an enjoyable one. They all went above and
beyond. The care and compassion of everyone who works there were outstanding and I would highly recommend this care home to anyone. The entertainment that they have for residents is fantastic. My Dad has said if he ever has to go into a care home he would want to go to Thornhill. I have also told my daughter if I have to end up going to a care home in time I want to go here. 5* service from everyone. Once again thank you to all management and staff you are like one big loving family.

I have to thank all staff who work at Darfield, Thornhill House for the excellent care and support they give to all their residents. They have looked after my Mum since December 2017 and taken the best care of her during this time, supporting her through the loss of her husband in 2020 and through the
difficult condition that dementia holds. My Mum turned 90 last September and the staff arranged a delightful afternoon tea at the home for my Mum so that our family members could be together with Mum without her getting anxious about going anywhere. She sat with us for over an hour which must be a record for Mum. All residents are thought about here. No one is excluded from receiving gifts at Christmas or Easter. Staff ensure everyone is catered for. It is a truly family-orientated environment and my Mum is settled and happy there. I can’t thank the manager and all the staff enough for what they do.

My grandad was a resident at Thornhill Care Home. He sadly passed a few weeks ago.
But his time spent at Thornhill was made special and loving and he felt comfortable and safe here. The staff go above and beyond to cater for your needs and nothing is ever too much to ask for. I honestly cannot say
a bad word about Thornhill even though Grandad could be a challenge at times and awkward! All the staff knew how to take him and his stubbornness.
There's always plenty of entertainment on for the residents and from what I've seen they all love it and it's lovely to see them all enjoying themselves too. Overall Thornhill is a lovely place for your loved ones to stay and the care they receive is outstanding.
Thank you all again for taking care of my grandad and making him feel welcomed and part of a family.

I visit Thornhill House every month to lead a church service. The residents and relevant staff are always ready and waiting and eager to participate in the discussions and singing of old hymns. They love to engage in conversation and tell me all they have been doing as we await start time and we discuss
the various activities, entertainment and beauty treatments they have had.
I go to many care homes but love my visits to Thornhill where there is always a warm welcome, well cared for, happy residents and cheerful staff.

Best care home with a fantastic manager and all his staff who always go above and beyond to care for all the residents with dignity, it's not a care home it is home from home with lovely food and entertainment that is first class. My mother-in-law loved the Manager and his staff she was a resident before
she sadly passed away.

My nan was living at Thornhill House right until she passed away 21st March 2023.
The care she received whilst living here was outstanding, we are so grateful for everyone that cared for her and made her feel like she was a human being and not just a number.
I will always remember my nan telling
me 'they are all lovely here, they talk to me like a person and not down to me', it was a big comfort to us knowing she was happy and well cared for.
When Nan passed away, the care they showed towards my nan and us, as a family, we will never forget, nothing was too much trouble and they carried on caring and talking to my nan like she was still here with us, they really did treat her with the dignity she deserved.
We, as a family, will always be forever grateful to them all.

All the staff at Thornhill House are really friendly, kind and caring. They genuinely care about all the residents and always make me feel very welcome when I visit my auntie.
My auntie is really well looked after and loves living there. There are always lots of activities, outings and entertainment
for her to enjoy. The food is lovely and home-cooked. When she has been ill they have always called the doctor out to see her straight away. Nothing is too much trouble. We can't thank the manager and all the staff enough!
Reply from Michael Smith, Operations Director at Thornhill HouseWhat a lovely review to read this morning, thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us, I will feedback to the team in the upcoming staff meeting.

My auntie moved to Thornhill House in January 2023. She is doing really well, lots of activities, bingo, drawing, exercise, a singer on at least once a week to engage the residents and get them singing along. Do not hesitate to call the doctor if Auntie is unwell.
All staff are brilliant, headed up
by the manager who interacts with residents brilliantly.
Peace of mind knowing she is well looked after.

Thornhill House is an excellent care home. All of the staff show true care for all the residents and nothing is too much trouble. When visitors arrive you are greeted as part of the family- which is truly what the staff and residents are. All of the residents are treated with dignity and respect and
their thoughts and wishes are listened to and acted on. My friend moved to Thornhill House following problems with the home she was residing in originally. The love and care shown to her have brought her out of her shell and she is now living her best life. It makes my heart smile to see her so very happy. I would not hesitate for one second to recommend Thornhill House to anyone looking for a residential setting for their loved one.

My mum was transferred to Thornhill after surgery on her broken femur at 87 years old. She was there for a short stay until her physio could begin for her to regain mobility. Thornhill is a family, the full team of staff and management engage with residents friends and relatives who visit each other
in a lovely respectful and caring manner. It is an upbeat environment with lots of activities and laughter which oozes warmth. Sadly mum passed away quite suddenly a few days ago and thank every member of Thornhill for the care she received up to her leaving us.

My mother-in-law was so looked after and cared for. The staff were so loving to her and us as a family, the management was very good, she was always reluctant to go into care but the home was amazing.
The manager did my mother-in-law's funeral and was so personal.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.900)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.900) out of 10 for Thornhill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 47 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for Thornhill House is calculated as follows: ( (537 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 558 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thornhill House is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
