Carer, staff were more than helpful with my grandmother. The choice of foods were nourishing and well balanced. There was always help when she needed anything. I would not have any problems recommending the home if I knew someone was coming in for rehab or even permanent care.

My grandma was admitted here for rehabilitation after a fall at home. She had physiotherapy and occupational therapy. All the staff were friendly and sociable and my gran was very well looked after. She made lots of new friends and there were tears when she had to leave them and the staff. 10 out of

During my mothers stay at Thornhill House I was made to feel extremely welcome every time I visited. My mum had been in another home which provided rehab however made no progress. My dear mum was unable to walk due to a fall in August this year however after 3 days at Thornhill House mum was back on
her feet! "They really are miracle workers!" The staff are so kind and very helpful as well as "hard working". The managers are both extremely helpful and very approachable and resolved any concerns relating to mum! The home is very homely with a very pleasant atmosphere. Thank you everyone!

This home has looked after my mother Gladys, from July 2014 to 9th September 2015, when sadly she passed away at the age of 94.
Although she did not want to leave her own home she was welcomed in to Thornhill House and she quickly settled, eventually understanding and accepting the reasons for her
change in dwelling. This was helped tremendously by the caring and friendly attitude of the Management & Staff, and mother enjoyed her time there.
At all times she was treated with care and dignity, and anything that she wanted, or needed, was dealt with quickly.
Towards the end of her life mother spent a lot of time in bed, but she was still monitored and looked after on a very regular basis, and we could not have asked for any better or more care and love than she received from the staff.
There was an obvious culture of love, care, safety, entertainment, happiness and respect throughout the entire home, no matter what time of day you turned up, expected or otherwise.
The Management went to great lengths to keep us updated with mother's progress with telephone calls, e-mails, photographs and videos. All much appreciated, because living in Southampton we were 220 miles away from mother.

We could not have asked for better care for my mother in the last months of her life.

My Nannan was a resident here, as she became unable to look after herself in her own home.
I have nothing but gratitude and praise for the staff at Thornhill. She lived her final year here and the staff were amazing.
Take care given here was amazing, and the staff do an amazing job.
We often visited
from a long distance, and they always looked after us and my man.
The final weeks of her life, my Nan was treated with such dignity and respect. I thank Thornhill for the wonderful care that has been given. Thank you - you all do such a great job.

The service and facilities that Thornhill provide is excellent. My grandmother was a resident for approx 18 months until her recent passing. During her stay she was very happy, she was well cared for and for us living far away, we were extremely content that she was in safe hands and being cared for
to a high standard. Sadly we lost my grandmother recently and the care provided in her final days was exceptional. The care and compassion of all the staff was just amazing. They all cared for her and took time out of their own time to visit her.

The management and staff also looked after us, her family, in our times of need. We cannot thank them enough for everything they did.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.900)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.900) out of 10 for Thornhill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 47 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for Thornhill House is calculated as follows: ( (537 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 558 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thornhill House is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
