How wonderful for our vulnerable loved ones to enter into a 'home from home' environment. The care which is, not only given to the resident but also to family members is reassuring at a difficult time. The care workers treat everyone with respect and understanding, always ready to give a helping hand.
The management team organise social events keeping the interaction. Always keeping us all involved. A team to be proud of.

Not happy at all with this facility for my father who has Alzheimer's. This did not seem to be taken into account and he came away very insecure and afraid. Although the physios did get him back on his feet.

My Mum was in Thornhill House all of January and most of February.
She was so happy and cared for.
She loved the staff, the food, the company and most of all the stimulation.
We are looking at daycare to come back in future.
Thanks everyone.

The care I have received at Thornhill has been more than excellent. When I came here I couldn't believe the amount of care I received. The carers do more than care for you, they are so kind and work so hard. The food is excellent, this is the second time I have been here and when I came I said "I have
come home". I said they are more than excellent.

Thornhill is a first class care home, the care I have had has been the best I could have had anywhere. The staff are so kind and patient and do all they can to make people happy, they always have a smile on their face and nothing is too much trouble for them. The kitchen staff and cleaners are always
helpful and the meals are first class, the place is lovely, clean and the residents are given every encouragement to get well, no one feels embarrassed.

My mum had a rehabilitation stay at Thornhill House in Feb 2017. We were pleased when mum could move on after one week. Some staff were kind but unfortunately, these were in a minority. In general, there was a poor attitude and mum was made to feel she was a nuisance. There was a lack of empathy and
understanding. The rehabilitation, particularly the Physiotherapy sessions, were excellent.
Reply from Christian, Manager at Thornhill HouseSorry you felt this way regarding your mum's stay at Thornhill. I'm a little concerned regarding your comments as your mum wanted respite at Thornhill and I had no beds available. Your comments have been noted and will be used to ensure anyone else who stays at Thornhill does not experience the same.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.900)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.900) out of 10 for Thornhill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 47 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.900 for Thornhill House is calculated as follows: ( (537 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 558 Ratings = 4.9
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thornhill House is based on 46 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 46 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
