Our Mum has been resident in Thornhill Care Home for the last 3 years and the care Mum has received has been outstanding throughout. Especially through the Covid 19 pandemic, making sure we could communicate safely via social media and keeping everyone entertained. We cannot thank the manager and all
his staff enough for everything they have done for her. The staff have never faltered in any way to provide the special loving care for Mum in her last few years and especially, over the last few weeks of her life. There are not enough words to express our gratitude and we would recommend that anyone wishing to secure a residential nursing home for their loved ones, should not hesitate to consider Thornhill. Thank you so very much for everything.

Did a fantastic job looking after and keeping my dad as comfortable as they possibly could in the last few months of his life. All the staff were brilliant, and nothing was too much trouble for them, the manager even made an appearance at my dad's funeral, which was really nice of him.
Would recommend
Thornhill House without hesitation.

Fabulous staff who go above and beyond to ensure the residents are taken care of and their minds are occupied. You see many care homes who are happy to just sit their residents in an armchair and just wait for them to pass away. When the lockdown was put in place, it seemed like a nightmare, but the
staff made sure we were able to see our families on Facebook, while they were doing activities. It helps you sleep at night, knowing that your vulnerable family member is safe and sound.

My nana has stayed here numerous times after hospital and she is now staying for good. Initially, the thought of her now going home was very upsetting but seeing how happy she is in this home is wonderful. The staff are brilliant and they always go the extra mile. It’s amazing that she has entertainment
there and is able to join in in lots of activities. I would recommend this care home to everyone.

I am very pleased with the care and support my mum receives at Thornhill House. The home is just like my mum, down to earth, no airs or graces, kind and considerate, enjoys a laugh and a good sing-a-long and is always happy to help.

My grandad has been in Thornhill House for around 9 months and whilst as a family, we were really reluctant for him to go into care because of stories you hear we can honestly say since being in Thornhill the care he has received has been second to none.
When he first went into Thornhill he was not
good on his feet, to seeing how they have helped him with his mobility and general care is so nice to see that they care for him like he is their family member!
I would 100% recommend Thornhill House to anyone in the position we were in as we can see they love the residents as much as the families do.

After a rocky start to 2019 after over 16 falls and numerous infections, long stays in hospital, myself and my family took the hard decision of finding my 86-yr-old dad with Alzheimer's and many other health issues a care home. Last thing I ever dreamt I would have to do and I was devastated, to say
the least. We viewed Thornhill and spoke to Thornhill manager and decided this was the home we wanted dad to stay. If I had to put a time limit on dads life expectancy before he went in, wouldn't have expected him to be with this Xmas just gone he was so frail and lost the will to live. Ask me now and I can dream we will still have him with us next Xmas, he is doing so good and that's down to the amazing staff at Thornhill each and every one of them just go above and beyond. I can't stress enough how happy I am knowing my dad is getting the best care possible, he is a different man to the man that went into that home 9 months ago.

Thornhill House is an excellent care home. It is such a relief knowing that my grandma, who has dementia, is being so well looked after.
The staff at Thornhill are excellent and go above and beyond to make sure all residents are well looked after and are treated well. They are always engaging with
residents to make sure they are okay, and if my grandma makes a request for a certain food or beverage they go out of their way to sort it for her.
They always seem to have activities for the residents to do, whether it is arts and crafts or dancing, and probably once a week they have a live singer in the lounge singing old songs. My grandma loves it and always gets up dancing and singing.
The staff are a real credit to the home and its residents. They are often staging charity events in their own time to give back to the home and the community, and at Christmas, they devised a scheme for people to donate shoeboxes to give to residents and the local hospital. A truly excellent care home.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.920)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.920) out of 10 for Thornhill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 59 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 58 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.920 for Thornhill House is calculated as follows: ( (682 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 703 Ratings = 4.92
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Thornhill House is based on 58 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 58 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
