  • Layden Court Care Home, Rotherham
Layden Court is a substantial purpose-built Nursing home set on All Hallows Drive in Maltby, a resilient and close-knit South Yorkshire community on the edge of Rotherham. Built in the 1990s, the home joined the Oak Tree Care Group in 2021. Good public transport connections to both Rotherham and Sheffield, combined with easy access to the M1 motorway, make Layden Court straightforward to reach for families travelling from across the region.

One of the largest homes within the Oak Tree group, Layden Court provides residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 92 residents across 92 single en-suite rooms set across three floors. Due to the naturally sloping land on which the home was built, each floor benefits from its own direct access to landscaped garden areas - a thoughtful feature that ensures all residents can enjoy outdoor space regardless of which part of the home they live in. Each floor within the home also benefits from large communal spaces, which includes lounges and sitting areas, and a dedicated dining room where residents can enjoy meals together in a sociable and relaxed setting.

The home supports adults aged 45 and over across a wide range of needs, including dementia at all stages, mental health, learning disability, autism, physical disability and palliative and end of life care. Despite its considerable size, the team's commitment to knowing each resident as an individual - understanding their history, their preferences and what matters most to them - remains every bit as strong here as it does in any of the group's smaller homes. That is something Layden Court takes real pride in.

My father in law went into Layden Court for respite in January 2025 but whilst there his needs were assessed and he became a permanent resident until his death in June. He was a difficult man but at every step of the way the staff listened to him and made him feel heard. When he arrived the room had
recently been decorated and he didn't like the feature wallpaper which was an issue for him as he was bed bound. The Management arranged for posters of dogs and horses (his loves) to be put up so he couldn't see the wallpaper. A little touch but something which we appreciated as it calmed him. He was on anti agitation meds but he still got very agitated in the early evening and during the night and the management arranged sitters for him when he got like this. It was a horrendous situation as he was only given a week to live in June 2024 and was laid waiting to die which caused all his anxiety. His care by the Management of the home was second to none.
Reply from Chantey Hickling, Registered Manager at Layden Court Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and moving account of your father-in-law's time at Layden Court. We are truly sorry for your loss and appreciate how difficult that period must have been for you and your family.
It means a great deal to hear that our team listened to him and helped him feel heard, particularly during such a challenging stage of his life. We're glad the small personal touches, like the posters reflecting his love of dogs and horses, brought him some comfort, and that the additional support in the evenings and at night helped ease his distress.
Your kind words about the care and compassion shown by our management and staff are sincerely appreciated and will be shared with the whole team. Thank you for trusting us with his care.

From the time my husband went into Layden Court, he was made to feel like he was home and not in care home. They soon learnt his likes and dislikes. Treated him like an adult, not a child, and he could make up his own mind.
He laughed, smiled and became family with those their through their genourosity
and help with the daily things my husband could no longer do independently, such as they made sure he was washed, shaved, properly groomed and has his hair cut. His food looked delicious, in fact this made us want to eat there. Puddings were always his favourite. Access was always welcome.
They also helped me with any concerns, like when I felt like he needed to see a doctor. In his final days we were informed of any medical care that was prescribed. When he passed, the phones were not working so one of the many kind nurses who cared for my husband used her own phone to ensure that I was informed as soon as possible. Can't thank them enough.

Mum was placed in the care home at the end of April after 3 weeks in hospital following a stroke. When I visited in May I was immediately impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the homely/family feel of the place. Mum is given first class care and attention and I have not seen her laugh so
much in ages. She seems very content and I am relaxed knowing she is looked after so well. Thank you to all the staff involved with her care.
Reply from Chantey Hickling, Registered Manager at Layden Court Care HomeWe are delighted to hear that your mum settled well with us after what must have been a very difficult time following her stroke and hospital stay. It is especially heart-warming to know that she was laughing, content, and enjoying life here - that truly meant a great deal to our whole team.
Your comments about the friendliness of the staff, the homely atmosphere, and the quality of care provided are greatly appreciated and will be shared with everyone involved in your mum's care. Knowing that you felt reassured and relaxed about her wellbeing is exactly what we strive for. We were truly grateful to care for your mum until her final days, and we take great comfort in knowing that she was content and is now at peace.

The respect, care and dignity my mum received from all staff at Layden Court could not have been better. The nurses, care assistants, domestic helpers, cooks and cleaning staff were all to kind to mum, her family and her friends. The food was nutritious, imaginative and tasty. The various activities
arranged included singing, dancing, arts and crafts were a pleasant, happy distraction for all. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you all so much from us all.

My sister was admitted to Layden Court for palliative care after suffering heart failure and Parkinson's Disease (for 20 years). Her care there was exemplary, the staff attentive, genuinely caring, specifically the deputy manager, whom I believe was acting as manager. Heartily recommend!

I would just like to start by saying the biggest thank you to the Deputy Manager & all the staff here at Layden Court. The love & care you showed my Dad for the short 2 weeks he was with you was absolutely incredible, the only reason he is now home after a short stay is down to you guys, so thank you.
The home itself is lovely & clean, from the different dining rooms, lounges, gardens & personal rooms, they're all absolutely wonderful. I honestly cannot fault anything about this wonderful place, the staff & residents feel like one big family & what more could you want for your own family member. From the minute Mum & I went to look around Layden Court, to the day my Dad was welcomed with open arms, the staff instantly looked after us all, always offering drinks when Dad had one, even food as my Mum would be there every day. We told the deputy manager our end goal was home & she fully supported & worked with us to make this possible. I don't think words could ever thank you all enough!

My lovely mum was in Layden court for 6 weeks, I cannot thank all the staff for the care, support and love they provided for her, myself and her grandsons during this difficult time. The care and attention was excellent, nothing was too much trouble, with numerous cups of tea provided for the family.
It was a difficult decision to place Mum in a nursing home, but it was the right one and it allowed me to be her daughter and spend quality time with my mum in the last few weeks of her life, ones I will treasure forever. Thank you.

It was my first time visiting my friend since she was admitted. I was welcomed by a lovely lady. She made me feel really welcomed and as I was at home. She introduced me to staff who showed me where my friend was. My friend was in her room and looked happy. I was offered a drink then told if I needed
anything to just ask. My friend voiced how happy she was and felt very settled and safe. Thank you, everyone, especially one staff member for your hospitality.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.795)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.795) out of 10 for Layden Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.795 for Layden Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (304 Excellents x 5) + (74 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 380 Ratings = 4.795
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Layden Court Care Home is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 92 registered maximum number of service users is 18.4, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
