Cotleigh has 62 large, en-suite bedrooms, each with a shower. Residents are encouraged to make their rooms feel like home by adding personal touches like photos, ornaments, or a small sofa. The hallways are spacious, and there are plenty of shared areas, all nicely decorated, with ongoing updates.

The dining areas have a personal feel, shaped by residents and staff. There is also a bar where residents can enjoy drinks, games, and singalongs, and families can reserve it for private meals or celebrations. They recently added a games room with a high-tech table, board games, and a reading corner. The tea room hosts monthly afternoon teas, and families can book it for gatherings.

The garden has ample seating, including shaded areas, and features a cocktail bar. They host themed events like a garden party, Alice in Wonderland, and country nights for residents, families, and the community.

Residents enjoy twice-weekly “music to movement” classes, visits from miniature ponies, singers, and outings to places like Yorkshire Wildlife Park, the beach, and local pubs.

There is a hair and beauty salon for hair and nail appointments, with a hairdresser visiting weekly, plus a jacuzzi bath for relaxing. A doctor visits weekly, and they coordinate health services like chiropody and dental care.

Meals are homemade, with residents helping to choose the menu. Favourites include fish and chips, pies, and ginger biscuits. The kitchen team also provide nourishing soups and milkshakes for those needing extra nutrition.

Residents have freedom here—they can move around, eat, and go out as they like. Some stay short-term while their home is being repaired or to experience life in a care home, and many choose to return. SheffCare are proud of the caring, dedicated team at Cotleigh, and their strong reputation with nurses, doctors, and families.

Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
I am not surprised in seeing no reviews on this care home. As I've been treated diabolically as a loved one's relative, that I can only assume that others like me have been intimidated so badly that they have only wanted a quiet life, from these unprofessional people that they dare not leave a review
in fear that their life will be made miserable, by having a voice for their loved ones, just like mine has been made! I can't believe this place keeps getting away with it.
No empathy, no compassion, and always on the defensive to everything and everyone!
I really could go on!
But all I would want to say is that this is the last place I would place my loved ones!
And that I wouldn't want anyone to go through what myself and my lovely poor mum has had to endure from this place. God forbid you don't ask any questions, or have any concerns because rather than deal with it, they would rather try and throw your mum out by trying to say they can't meet her needs anymore.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.663) out of 10 for Cotleigh is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.713 for Cotleigh is calculated as follows: ( (199 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 240 Ratings = 4.713
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cotleigh is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
