Darwin House is a privately-owned luxurious residential home. A beautiful Victorian building with elegantly proportioned rooms, complimented by a purpose-built modern wing with large individual bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms. All staff are caring, compassionate and supportive, working to build a strong rapport with residents.

Darwin House offers a comprehensive list of facilities available including chiropody, dentistry and all other health services. They also have a weekly hairdresser in a purpose-built hair salon.

My husband was a but worried about the respite stay at Darwin House but after speaking to staff who came to our house for a care assessment he was willing to give it a try.
On arrival he found his room spacious, comfortable with nice view of the garden - good start!
In spite of his physical and mental
limitations and his short stay (4 nights) he was able to join some activities.
Staff were attentive and responded to his needs, they were brilliant - nothing was too much for them.
I was able to ring staff at 2am and I git a swift and helpful response.

I never thought my mum would settle in a care home. Unfortunately, due to failing health, this decision was taken out of our hands. She needed full time care, at quite short notice. We visited a number of care homes, whilst mum was still in hospital, and after visiting Darwin House there was no contest.
It felt warm and welcoming. The staff were understanding of my mum's needs, including her dementia, and were also empathetic towards me and my "worries".
I visited on an almost daily basis and always found Darwin to be warm, welcoming , clean and staffed by people who clearly cared for all the residents and were understanding of their individual needs. Despite mum's dietry requirements, nothing was too much trouble, to ensure she had everything she needed. Trips made and in-house entertainment was very inclusive.
I was just glad mum's last few months were spent somewhere that became "home", where she felt safe and I had quality time with her, as a daughter, not just her carer.

I have now visited this care home about once a month since my friend was admitted. I have always found everything about Darwin House extremely pleasing. I have not experienced 'food' enough to to tick the excellent box, but what I have seen has been good. The atmosphere is at all times welcoming and
friendly. I cannot comment on value for money as I am not a family member of the lady I visit.

My aunt's move to Darwin House in Many was at very short notice and I had concerns as to how she would cope. Thanks to all the staff she has settled in very well. She is a very independent lady but they have catered to her various needs with patience and compassion. I am very grateful because living
2 hours drive away complicates matters but I can relax because she is in such good hands. Thank you all.

Excellent care by Darwin House for my mum who was there for respite. The staff are amazing - attentive, caring and considerate, they go over and above to help to provide activities and entertainment. The food is fab and Mum felt very welcomed and well looked after. Only one point to note - some of the
furniture looks dated and in need of a bit of TLC here and there. I would highly recommend.

I spent some time in Darwin House following a spell in hospital. Having had a bad experience in the hospital it is so refreshing to spend time in Darwin House where I was treated with respect as an individual by all the staff, who were wonderful in every way. I was regularly checked on throughout the
day and night, and all the staff showed real concern for my welfare and safety. If I had to go into a care home again I would certainly try to get into Darwin House, I could not be happier in their care!

My mum has recently passed away but had been a resident at Darwin House for apparently two years. We could not have wished for better care of our dear mum. There was a positive change in my mum from the first week of her moving into her lovely room. The staff are always at hand, caring and respectful.
We were informed immediately of any changes in Mum's health. She passed away peacefully in her sleep with dignity and the staff couldn't have been more respectful and caring under difficult circumstances. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Darwin House to anyone looking for a residential home.

Mum was under the care of Darwin House for 18 months. The level of support, care, and attention was outstanding. There was a deeply personal approach to all residents and Mum benefitted greatly from this approach.
The engagement to the family from the staff at the home was brilliant, nothing was too
much trouble. We also felt that the connectivity with doctors made a difference, so if a diagnosis or treatment was required, things always happened quickly. We can’t commend Darwin House highly enough. We chose them through a recommendation and are so grateful that we did.

Mum has been at Darwin House for just over a year, after a couple of previous short respite stays. She is much safer here, well cared for by attentive staff and has numerous activities to take part in. The rooms and communal areas are always very clean. A little more communication with family would
be beneficial, but we understand that they are missing a member of admin staff currently.

My sister and I are very happy that our mother is in Darwin House. She has been there for over a year. The care team are kind and caring towards her even at difficult times!
They and the management are easy to communicate with and any information is quickly passed on to us. The maintenance of the home
is exemplary and Darwin House is like home from home. A warm cosy place with lovely decor and fresh flowers. It is well run with lovely staff all round.

Mum has been in Darwin House for 6 months, after a week's respite stay made her decide to move in permanently. I have spent a lot of time there and speak to mum every day - and I would recommend this home to anyone. It is a lovely building, grounds etc and always feels clean and pleasant, Mum has been
in two lovely rooms and the communal areas are very welcoming. The food is generally excellent and the team really try to ensure preferences are taken into account. Mum prefers to eat in her room and this is happily accommodated. However my main praise has to be for the staff - all the team are pleasant, kind and very caring. They do their utmost to help at all times, and any issues are swiftly sorted. They are efficient, and have left no stone unturned to settle mum in and make sure her room is how she wants it. It is always a sad time when your parent has to go into a home but if that is the case then you couldn't do any better than Darwin House.

Very caring. Give patients their dignity. My mum has been here for over 4 years and she and I have no complaints. Lovely carpeted home. Cosy feel.
Food excellent. Rooms lovely. Staff always helpful despite it being a hard job Like one big family. I highly recommend it.

I find that everyone at Darwin House works so very hard to make sure my mum and all the residents are well looked after. Carers so often get overlooked yet despite their own worries in these troubling times. I have found all that work at Darwin to be friendly, kind and dedicated to making sure the residents

My dad has only been in Darwin House so far for one week, he's booked in for another week respite so it's early days, but he's enjoying his stay so far. The staff 'are very kind to me' he says. Everyone is lovely, accommodating, friendly and helpful. The manager has been very nice, helpful and wiped
away a few of my tears! The place is spotless, in every way. Everyone makes time to speak when we visit. A lovely atmosphere.

Mum had been very anxious about her week's respite care at Darwin House. However, she thoroughly enjoyed her stay, found the staff unfailingly kind, the food delicious and loved the view from her bedroom window. The family found the receptionists extremely helpful and kind. Would recommend this home.

Just back from ten very happy days in this home. The food is excellent, room likewise (en-suite) activities, a street party complete with flags all over for the King's Coronation, painting, the library and best part of all, the staff. They created a genuine friendly atmosphere. Nothing was refused.
Everything was done with enthusiasm. Will go again.

I have lived here for four years. Since my wife died in 2018 the manager, strict as should be and her wonderful staff saved me from a nervous breakdown. God bless them all. Catering is better than a five-star hotel in Paris where I have been!
