Having had a bad experience in a previous care home, my father arrived at Prior Bank not expecting to like it. I cannot praise the staff enough for how they handled the situation and helped him to settle in and gain his trust. His wife of 64 years passed away within only a few weeks of him arriving,
and the support that he received was fantastic.
My father does not have dementia but felt unable to look after himself at home safely. He is very happily settled in, having been there for four months now, and enjoys the food, chatting to everyone and anyone who will listen, and joining in with the activities when he feels like it. I am able to go away on holiday knowing that he is well cared for, something that I was unable to do when I was his carer. Thank you to every member of staff at Prior Bank, and for your lovely smiling faces when we visit Dad, you are always so friendly and welcoming to us too.

My Dad has been living at Prior Bank since last December and arrived at a point where he had accepted that he could no longer cope in the sheltered housing setting he previously occupied. I had read and heard good things about Prior Bank and was delighted when they had a room free to take him. My initial
impressions on visiting and then when he first arrived were of an exceptionally friendly, caring and committed team of people who would do all they could to make residents lives as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Given that many are struggling with various stages of dementia (now including my Dad) this is often not easy, but the cheerfulness of all staff is fantastic. Dad is clearly very happy to be there, still enjoys the excellent food he is given and where possible joins in with the many activities provided to brighten up residents' days. This is a home where complete professionalism but also a huge amount of human warmth and understanding underpin the treatment of residents.

My parents have been residents at Prior Bank for the past few months. My parents have different individual care needs as my father has dementia and my mother is more able but is frail. Our family are very impressed with the care mum and dad are receiving, Prior Bank has a lovely homely and welcoming
atmosphere and the staff go out of their way to meet the needs of all their residents. There are lots of activities and outings on offer for those who want to join in and also quiet spaces and lovely outdoor areas for residents to spend time with their friends and families, or do their own thing with carers on hand when needed. There is an ethos of genuine care and respect for residents and their families throughout the staff team and staff always have time to talk with us about mum and dad`s care and wellbeing.

I have always been very happy with the care provided at Prior Bank - firstly when my mother was in for 10 years previously - she was very happy there and currently, my sister-in-law is a resident. The home is always clean and bright. The food is excellent and the staff always very helpful and caring.
I would always recommend it.

Mother feels settled and comfortable. She very much likes her room and is grateful that staff respect her privacy. (She prefers to read rather than socialise).

I enjoy my visits to Prior Bank, however if I have a question I am not sure who to ask. I have found all the staff friendly and helpful.

My father has lived at Prior Bank for the last 20 months and is extremely happy there. The staff are absolutely outstanding. They are totally professional, extremely caring and treat the residents with the utmost respect. Nothing is too much trouble for them. There is a good family atmosphere within
this home. My father enjoys and benefits from the weekly Tai Chi classes and also enjoys the entertainment. My father has recently been ill and the backup service from the GP is also excellent and extremely responsive. I'm so glad we chose Prior Bank as my father is very happy and well cared for. This has, I feel, extended both his length and the quality of his life.

My father was in Prior Bank for respite care initially. He was given the utmost care, dignity and respect. The staff were prepared to assist him and relatives with anything they could. Unfortunately, my father passed away whilst in their care. Again the staff worked tirelessly to comfort my father and
help in any way they could to make the final stages of his life as professional and caring as they could. Would HIGHLY recommend to others.

Mum was admitted for respite care after a fall in her sheltered accommodation. Staff have been kindness itself and helped her to settle. She is now staying permanently and we are delighted with her care to date. At 98 any move has the potential to be traumatic, but every member of staff has worked hard
to minimise this. She is joining in the activities and making new friends. We would recommend Prior Bank to anyone who has a frail elderly relative.

A nice reception by the staff when we visited. A good comfortable home. All the staff seem very caring and considerate and interact very well indeed.
The individual room for my sister was very nice and staff had hung pictures as requested.
Drinks and snacks are served regularly at allotted times and
my experience of the food when we ate lunch with my sister was very good indeed.
My overall impression was of a comfortable, happy atmosphere - also very clean with no odour!

There's a wonderful sense of genuine caring for each individual resident.
The atmosphere is homely with comfortable seating.
Visitors are welcomed and a bonus is to be included at meal times and coffee breaks.
This is a valuable inclusion to help the resident feel settled and accepting of the situation.
Staff
are very pleasant, helpful and understanding.
My criticism is that the TV sound is perhaps too loud and constant but I realise there may be just reasons for this.

I think the staff are friendly and value the positive aspects of my grandma's personality. Staff seem to have connected with my grandma's mischievous side and it is nice to be reminded of that side of her. She seems happy here - even though she (inaccurately) tells me that she never leaves her room.

My mother was made most welcome when she came to the home. She has joined in lots of activities. Due to her dementia, I am unable to obtain my mother's opinions but my impressions are that every member of staff I have met has excellent empathy with the residents and are alert to their needs.
The home
appears to be well staffed and an active programme of renovation and improvement reflects a committed and effective management.

Staff have always responded to his needs.
His room has been made personal and inviting.

It was my mothers 100th birthday party at the home for my mother's family. The entertainment co-ordinator and the chef went out of their way to be helpful as were other members of staff. The whole event went fantastically well because of this help. As a result, my mother and the family had a great time
throughout, enjoyed by all. Thank you very much.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.839)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.839) out of 10 for Prior Bank is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.839 for Prior Bank is calculated as follows: ( (329 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 385 Ratings = 4.839
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Prior Bank is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
