Review from Chris I (Power of Attorney of Resident) published on 2 January 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Acting as Licenced Power of Attorney I and my wife moved our friend from a care home which had closed and found the care offered by Croft House and the staff to be excellent from the moment our friend arrived. The warmth of their welcome certainly made what could have been a very stressful change an easy and calming move. Our friend was resident for 12 months and was always full of praise for the care and attention she received, commenting as well on the quality of food served. This was particularly valued during the Covid 19 pandemic. Sadly due to age and underlying health conditions, our friend became very frail and the end of life care she received was exemplary. She was surrounded by the care and love of the staff in her final days, I was able to visit her and she passed away peacefully and pain-free.

Throughout her time at Croft House, both I and other friends were impressed by the warmth and friendliness of all the staff and I know that our friend was happy and settled in her home.

My sister was a resident at Croft House for five years. She had vascular dementia and throughout her time there she received excellent appropriate care and support to meet all her needs.
All the staff were well trained and always loving and caring to my sister.
My sister was always smiling, happy, and content when we saw her joining in the regular frequent events and activities. The Christmas parties were always a joy.
My brother and I live in distant parts of the country and it has always been a comfort to us to know how content, well cared for and loved by everyone at the Croft House.
Throughout the 5 years, the staff kept us well informed of developments, activities and about my sister’ care particularly in the difficult circumstances of the last 10 months.

The end of life care my sister received was excellent. We had daily conversations with staff, and the sympathetic and dignified support and guidance we were given during that time and after were excellent.

Dad was a resident at Croft house for 16 months. We thought Croft House compared favourably with others in the area, however, Dad chose Croft House because he was made to feel very welcome and it’s homeliness and staff being very friendly.

Dad enjoyed his time there, particularly the excursions, entertainment, the regular visits to the local tea dance and the excellent food. We were very pleased with the care dad received knowing he was in a safe place and being well looked after.

Our 92-year-old mother was resident for one week at Croft House for respite care. This was an urgent request, just before Christmas and organised very efficiently in a matter of days. We found the home very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. She was made welcome immediately and the care she received was very professional but warm and caring. Her room was homely and comfortable with fresh flowers already on the windowsill. The homecooked food was of a high standard and a good choice was available. A tray of tea and biscuits was always offered when visiting and all the staff were very attentive even when they were obviously busy.

There was always a lot going on, our Mum liked to stay in her room and watch television but was encouraged to join in if she wanted with no pressure. The owner is very hands-on and everything is geared towards what is best for the clients as opposed to the clients having to fit in with how the home is run.

My experience of Croft House was first from my father having to be admitted in December 2017. Unfortunately, he passed away in the home in July 2018, as upsetting as this was I was very happy with how he was cared for at the end and how well they treated me. Therefore when my mother was unable to be looked after at home I did not hesitate to approach Croft House again. My mother also appreciated how well they had cared for my father and was happy to move to the home, knowing she could no longer cope and be safe in her own home.

Residents treated with great respect from staff and management. Individual needs catered for. Staff are very welcoming when you visit offering tea, coffee etc. They also make you aware if there are any problems. Activities are excellent, taking residents out that are able, ie canal trips, for a drive around Thee Dales and even to Boundary Hills which my Aunt thought was wonderful. My praise to all staff for being so caring.

Always welcomed when visiting asked if we wanted a drink, invited to activities eg. Boat trips, Polish Night. Told about how mother is doing and if she has needed any treatment, told about when the hairdresser has been. When visiting staff they are always busy caring and entertaining residents, activities, music and massage. The food menu displayed and birthdays celebrated.

My mother has been a resident at Croft House for 5 years and she has been very well cared for. Health issues are picked up quickly and dealt with. Every day there are different activities and a minibus takes residents out twice a week along with barge trips in the summer. Different events throughout the year are celebrated eg., Easter, Halloween, with the staff taking part. It is a small, very friendly home and I have full knowledge that my mother is in good, safe hands. Even the small touches mean a lot, like having fresh flowers in the home and the latest addition of budgerigars to keep the residents stimulated. I can highly recommend Croft House.

It was the hardest decisions to make, when following a severe stroke, my mum had to go to a care home in her 95th year. I felt no one could deliver the care and attention she would expect and therefore I was greatly relieved to find Croft House which embraced a homely and family atmosphere.
The staff are warm and welcoming and intuitive to the needs of each person and deliver care competently, compassionately yet in a professional manner. My mum was always well cared for with dignity and her independence preserved.
Meals were always prepared to meet my mum's requirements with additions to tempt her on difficult days.
I cannot show enough appreciation to Croft House for their delivery of high standards in care and commitment and a great big thank you is extended to all staff including those who beaver away in the background providing housekeeping, maintenance and entertainment.

Towards the end of her life my mum received excellent palliative care but sadly she died in September 2018.

My mum is 91 and can be challenging. The staff at Croft House Care Home are always kind and patient with her and do their best to keep her connected and calm. The atmosphere is friendly and lively and there is a lot of activities laid on including a minibus for very welcome outings. I feel my mum is safe and well cared for at Croft House Care Home at this time in her life when she can be confused and anxious.

Mum was a resident at Croft House for almost three years and we as a family were more than happy with the care she received there. All the staff were so kind and caring and would always make sure she was happy and content; in essence, Croft House provided "a Home from Home".

Nothing was too much trouble, her every need was catered for, from the food she liked to eat to her favourite fluffy bed socks. In this plethora of Care homes, Croft House is in my view the jewel in the crown and I would be more than happy to recommend Croft House to all.

My mother has severe dementia and is very vulnerable. She initially attended for daycare but later became resident. She is always treated with love and respect. As her condition has deteriorated staff have adjusted to the care she needs and take every step to make sure that she is safe and appropriately cared for. She needs constant care and attention as she can do very little for herself but she receives patient and sensitive care. I am confident that she is content and comfortable in this setting. Staff are also attentive to the whole family and communication is excellent so that we always know how my Mum is doing, which is very reassuring.

My Gran joined Croft House in February 2017, after a short stay in a hospital. We are exceptionally pleased with the care she receives and the facilities provided. Over the last 10months she has built up some lovely relationships with her carers and nothing is ever too much trouble. The staff listen to her needs and both management and staff are quick to respond to feedback.
There are lots of activities available to residents throughout the week and it was lovely to be invited to the residents Christmas party with all the family and join in carol singing one evening with her.
It is reassuring that she is regularly seen by a nurse and she also has the facilities of a hairdresser and chiropodist on site. She really enjoys the home cooked meals...particularly the steam puddings! Her room is always spotlessly clean alongside the general areas.

It was a big decision moving Gran into residential care but we feel she is safe, well cared for and we definitely made the right choice.

Mum has now been at Croft House for 3 and a half years.
Although there have been quite a few staff changes over the past few months the managers always employ very efficient and caring staff.

Mum is well looked after and my sister and I are always made welcome, as we both spend a lot of time there this is an added bonus.

Caring, homely atmosphere, residents well cared for with entertainment, trips (where possible). Excellent meal provisions and care is taken to keep residents well hydrated.
Full understanding of patient and family's ceiling of care.
Delighted that each time my relative has been admitted to a hospital, they went above and beyond and sent a carer with him (he has dementia) and provided food for him whilst at the hospital.

Very very happy with Croft House.

I am very pleased that my mother is being looked after in this friendly and happy family run care home. They put a lot of work into making sure the residents are safe, healthy and entertained.

I have never seen any resident just left in a chair and the staff always engage with them. They have entertainment almost every day, and plenty of quiet places to sit if the person does not want to take part. There always seems to be something fun going on!

The best recommendation I can give is that I would be happy to live there if I needed care!

As a result, I am familiar with the premises and the staff. I am very happy with the situation.
