Overall Experience

We're impressed by the excellent care and genuine compassion shown to our Mum at Glen Rosa. It is competently led by a highly efficient, professional management team with decades of experience. Expectations of all members of staff are high and the more senior employees are ideal role models for the younger care staff, eager to develop their skills.

This characterful home is in a wonderful setting with beautiful gardens. It's very well maintained inside and out by an industrious, skilful maintenance man. Cleaners, domestic staff, chefs, care assistants, etc. are competent at their jobs and engage well with residents, reassuring them where necessary. The food is wonderful and there's always a varied menu. Activities are led by a thoroughly enthusiastic entertainments coordinator and are very varied, aiming to meet the needs of all residents.

Overall, the employees of Glen Rosa and Kitwood house are utterly devoted, kind, compassionate people who give 100% commitment to the residents.

Glen Rosa is a welcoming, well-staffed home. It is spacious very clean and well furnished, set in lovely grounds.
My sister is well looked after and is allowed the independence to decide to participate in the organised activities or remain in her room. Recent medical problems have been dealt with as soon as required by members of staff and the local GP practice.

Relatives are encouraged to participate in activities and to support events when required.

Reply from Sylvia Blackburn, Home manager at Glen Rosa

Thank you for your review, our staff are well trained and responsive to our residents care and needs, will always report any concerns they may have to the senior on duty, who in turn will deal with any concerns in a timely manner.

I have only been here three months. I was received by very friendly staff. I am fortunate in having a good sized room which is virtually a bed-sit. I am fairly independent and treated as such. There is a visiting chiropodist and a hairdresser who visits two days a week. I receive a daily newspaper.

It has been a pleasure to see how quickly you have settled, making and treating Glen Rosa as your home from home. Joining in any activities or trips, when and if you choose to, it is always a difficult transition for most, but you have been determined to make this your home.

Armed with my 13 page age UK checklist, I knew I would struggle to find anywhere good enough for my dad. So I was delighted to find Glen Rosa with it's professional, but very friendly staff, good food and lovely surroundings. He has attention and yet his privacy is respected. We feel truly blessed to have found Glen Rosa.

Reply from Sylvia Blackburn, Home manager at Glen Rosa

Thank you Jan for your positive comments, your Dad has settled in here amazingly well, he is happy and friendly to all the staff and residents. He is looking forward to summer so that he can stroll out in the gardens.

I find the staff very pleasant and caring and there is a really warm and welcoming atmosphere. My father is enjoying his stay and enjoys the food very much. It seems to be efficient without being obtrusive. There are lots of activities and entertainment which seems to be very much appreciated.

Thank you, Michael, for your review, it has been nice to see your father settle in, especially as he left his friends in Manchester, he enjoys our entertainment especially some of the singers that we bring in.

I have been visiting two residents regularly for the past year, very impressed with the care and caring atmosphere of home. My father was in a similar home in the area where the service was chaotic and at times uncaring. Now I wished we had chosen Glen Rosa. I know care homes can change according to the management - Glen Rosa seems to be in a very good place with a variety of activities and residents do not sit in a chair all the time with the television blaring on.

Reply from Sylvia Blackburn, Home manager at Glen Rosa

Thank you so much for your review, we strive to create a home from home atmosphere, and although we are currently without an activities coordinator, (the post is advertised), care staff and volunteers ensure that there is always something going on.

I found the staff at Kitwood House very welcoming. It was good to know that I could visit at any time during the day.
All the teams seem genuinely caring and dedicated with what they do and nothing is too much trouble.

The two bus trips that were arranged had to be cancelled - it would be good to have more of those opportunities.

Reply from Sylvia Blackburn, Home manager at Glen Rosa

Thank you for your kind comments about our staff at Kitwood, unfortunately, the 2 trips you mentioned were cancelled by the mini bus provider and not by us, the next trip is booked for the 19th to see the Christmas lights.

Glen Rosa offers a safe and welcoming home for my mother. The standard of care is very good. There are plenty of activities and the food is good. Mother has been distressed by one other challenging resident who has come into her room unasked. She misses a hot breakfast because she is unable to make it downstairs due to her restricted mobility.

Reply from Sylvia Blackburn, Home manager at Glen Rosa

Thank you for your review, we offer full cooked breakfast regularly and even though your mother no longer comes downstairs, she can still have a cooked breakfast if she requests one in her room. I will speak to the kitchen staff to ensure this happens, but please always come and see me with any...

My mother has been a resident at Glen Rosa for the past three years. She suffers severely from dementia and requires 24-hour care. She is looked after extremely well and we, as a family, are very satisfied with the level of care provided by the staff at Glen Rosa. She now follows her diabetic diet correctly and her physical health, despite her frailty with age (she will be 90-year-old in February 2017) has improved in the last three years. The staff are meticulous in her medical welfare, with hospital and GP/nurse visits arranged when needed. Glen Rosa was recommended by a residents family when I was seeking a place for mother and I would unhesitatingly do the same if asked.

Grandma has lived at Glen Rosa for 3 and a half years. The care she receives is outstanding. I visit her weekly and whenever I call in, the place is always spotlessly clean and Grandma is being cared for extremely well. Every single member of staff I have met have been amazing, always hard-working, patient, kind and positive, always maintaining a pleasant and happy atmosphere for the residents. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them - Truly amazing people. Thank you so much for all that you do for Grandma.

Leaving my home and coming into a care home was a bit traumatic and I didn't feel really prepared for it. I have been here 6 months now and I am beginning to feel it is home now. The kindness and helpfulness of staff is so good. It all helps to accept a different way of living. I try to look forward and not backwards. Life is still good and help is always at hand. I think the loss of independence is what I have to get over, but all the advantages make up for that.

Regular visits: reception staff are always pleasant and welcoming/ the outer door is always locked creating a secure environment, but the lock is released promptly allowing access once identity is established. Staff will make several conversations, the premises are in excellent decorative older. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly - residents personal needs/wishes are considered as far as practicable. My mother has been hospitalised for 4 days and staff have sent good wishes, asked regularly about progress and gave her really warm welcome when she returned.

My mother has been resident in Kitwood, the dementia wing of Glen Rosa since 2013. They have supported my mother and our family through her changing personality and problems. The staff always make time to talk to us and listen to our concerns and questions.
