Glen Rosa provides genuine peace of mind for relatives and a home from home for all residents. The staff are unfailingly cheerful and kind. The dementia care in the Kitwood wing is friendly, efficient, caring and extremely professional. The staff always treat the residents as part of their family.

I have felt welcome, and the food is excellent and well served in a very friendly atmosphere. This has occurred in a rather difficult time of my life, but the support I have received has made a great difference. I am grateful to all members of staff. I would not hesitate to recommend this institution to anyone!

Please accept my very beautiful thanks for all the things you do for your residents.

My Mum has been living in Kitwood (Glen Rosa) since February. She settled in very quickly and very well. We are particularly grateful that she is living in such safe and happy surroundings during the current crisis. We have been able to visit from the garden a couple of times but understand that we can't during the current local lockdown. The care staff have been fantastic keeping in touch with us via email and phone, posting updates on Facebook and passing our messages, photos etc on to her. It's helped us feel less isolated from her. They have also continued to arrange lovely activities - day at the races, tea and cakes in the garden, remote music activities and visiting musicians, Plus games and quizzes. Under very difficult circumstances, the staff have maintained as much normality as possible. We would like to thank everyone for their continued care and compassion.

My mum has dementia, and has lived in Kitwood House, the dementia specialist area of Glen Rosa for the past 16 months. We cannot speak highly enough of the kindness and care she receives, and while restlessness is very commonly part of dementia, Mum becomes relaxed when we tell her she doesn't need to move on, and that she can stay where she is. She tells us many times each visit that she couldn't be in a better place, she loves her room and finds the atmosphere, the activities (especially music and arts-related), and the friendliness of the whole team lovely. She loves the garden and will sit out if she can to read the paper. We feel mum has settled so well and is so well cared for, and we are so relieved she's somewhere with a team who are so vigilant and so person-centred. We can't really believe how amazingly the team is coping with this current crisis, with such grace. They are like family too now - to me as well.

My friend is in Kitwood House, a facility for people with dementia at Glen Rosa; although the facility is a rather formal word for the friendly, caring, comfortable home, she moved to in February. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. The person-centred care she receives is exemplary. As an example, she has been struggling to eat. After carefully analysing her particular issues, staff developed and implemented a sensitive, thoughtful, plan to encourage her to eat.

I have been particularly impressed by the range of activities, many and varied, offered within Kitwood; with sensitive encouragement, my friend has been, for example, singing, enjoyed numerous tea parties, celebrated St Patrick's Day and VE Day. I don't know-how, but today staff ran a day at the races! Communication with staff is excellent, whether by prompt response to phone calls, calling to discuss any issues or simply to give updates, and by sending much-appreciated photographs of my friend enjoying herself.

Thank you for your lovely comments, it’s always good to get feedback from a cross-section of visitors. Often it’s the relatives, so it’s great that as a visiting friend you also took the time to comment on the service that is provided to your friend living here. I will pass your comments onto the team; it’s a great boost for them to know how effective they are in their role.

Glen Rosa has a specialist dementia wing called Kitwood. What a fantastic place for my mum to be. I’ve not seen her so happy in a long time. The ethos and culture of the home is caring, person centric. The Kitwood Team offer a calm, well managed and loving environment for everyone. Big thank you.

Reply from Sue Garvey, Home Manager at Glen Rosa

Dad has dementia and because of a chest infection in early April it was touch and go for a while but the staff in Kitwood House kept us fully informed and cherished our lovely Dad as if he was their own. He has now improved and they are giving him the love which we can't at this trying time. The staff are amazing and have given us videocalls with Dad to keep us as close as possible.
Would highly recommend Kitwood House if you have a relative with this horrendous disease as, although Dementia takes your loved one from you earlier than it should, the staff understand the pain it causes and keep you as included as possible.

Well done and thank you.

Our Mum has been in Glen Rosa for 2.5 years and in that time has been cared for lovingly by all the staff. Our Dad passed away here too nearly 2 years ago and we found the support and care of the staff to Mum and all of us at this distressing time was amazing. Whenever you go to Glen Rosa the atmosphere is always welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and residents are active and happy. Mum loves her food and looks forward to mealtimes.

During this current situation every staff member has stepped up to keep up morale for residents and staff, and families have been kept informed weekly and occasionally daily, about residents health, levels of staff and PPE supplies, to keep us in the picture. Teamwork is key in this lovely MHA Care Home and all staff seem to enjoy working in this pleasant environment. Every effort is made to ensure the wellbeing of the residents and they are treated with dignity and good humour. Mum is safe, well looked after and we have peace of mind that she is in the right place. Thank you.

Reply from Sue Garvey, Home Manager at Glen Rosa

Thank you for your comments; the staff will be delighted with such praise. We always ensure the staff see the comments from relatives and it definitely boosts morale, so in your way that’s a great contribution to the effort so thank you again for taking the time to support what we are doing and your confidence in the care is very reassuring to us.

During this difficult Coronavirus time, Glen Rosa has pulled out all the stops to ensure residents are kept safe and well cared for.
There is an admirable continuity of staff with carers covering shifts rather than using agency staff. Staff have managed to facilitate video chat sessions with our relatives; which have been so comforting.
I am missing my mother dreadfully, but I know she is in the very best hands and I am so grateful to everyone at Glen Rosa.

Thank you.

I knew as soon as I set foot in Glen Rosa that I’d chosen the right place. It is a warm, friendly Care home with an atmosphere of calm but humane efficiency. My husband has been so happy here and I have been happy for him to be cared for by staff who treat him with gentle kindness and respect. During the recent crisis, they have made a real effort to keep in touch with the family and this has helped to mitigate some of the pain we all feel at not being able to see our loved ones. Thank you, Glen Rosa and Kitwood House for your much-valued care and support.

Mum has been a resident for over a year. She always says how happy she is and that the staff are all really good. Mum has also told my mother-in-law (by phone) what a lovely place Glen Rosa is. Mum is appreciative of all the staff and activities. The staff are all approachable and prioritise the needs and preferences of the residents. Communication to relatives is also excellent and prompt, whether by phone or email. This is especially helpful as I don't live nearby.

I moved my mother to Glen Rosa following a series of hospital stays and the realisation that she was unable to cope living independently with worsening mobility and memory. We initially reserved a room for respite care which allowed time for my mum to adjust. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating to both my mum and the rest of our family. My mum settled very quickly, which is a testament to the care and attention she has received. Since living at Glen Rosa, her health has stabilised. I feel the staff appreciate her needs and are quick to respond and inform me if anything happens. As a family, we have very much been encouraged to treat Glen Rosa as a home from home with flexible visiting, staying for meals if we wish and joining in activities and events with Mum. I would recommend Glen Rosa to family and friends with similar needs.

Reply from Sue Garvey, Home Manager at Glen Rosa

Thanks for your comments, we often have residents coming for respite and with the care and attention they receive decide to stay in the home. This in itself is testimony to the excellent care received. It’s so important to share relative and residents responses with the staff and with the help of carehome.co.uk we can provide up to date information for new potential clients.

Mum moved into Glen Rosa in the autumn of 2019. The staff are fabulous, kind and respectful. They have supported me in letting go of caring for Mum in her own home. Nothing is too much trouble, and they always have time for a friendly chat. I couldn't imagine anywhere else could provide such care to both the residents and their families.

My friend has found it very difficult to settle in the care home, but I have found that the staff have tried very hard to accommodate her wishes - she is now in her third room!

Reply from Sue Garvey, Home Manager at Glen Rosa

Thank you for your review - this has been a difficult process for your friend and as we have acknowledged would be the same in any care home. It’s always difficult when the preference would be to remain at home but that turns out to be an impossibility. We endeavour to accommodate her wishes as much as we can to try and enhance her stay here at Glen Rosa.

My step-mother has lived at Kitwood, Glen Rosa for 6 months. The kind staff helped her to make the necessary adjustment when she moved from her previous residential home where she had lived for 8 years. Although suffering from dementia, her own career as a nurse helped her to appreciate and respect the excellent care she as offered and she soon settled into this clean, warm, friendly and specialist caring environment.
