Improvements would be - more reclining chairs in the public lounges as my mum wasn't comfortable sitting on the chairs that were provided and more stimulating activities for residents who still have mental capacity.
Despite illness, and challenging behaviour on occasion, the staff were kind, caring and
This was particularly evident when, after a serious accident and hospital stay, her needs increased. The compassion she was shown by the staff during this time was immense. I won't name any particular member of staff, they were all brilliant, even throughout the night.
I was apprehensive when she was first admitted. I had no need to be. One of the things they said, on many occasions, was "we're not here JUST for your mum, we're here for you as well". Sadly my mum died just before her 91st birthday in June 2016.
Excellent staff, very good care, as good as it can be.

Hi, My name is Shelley and I am the registered manager of Priestley Care Home and have worked in care for over 30 years. I originally started out working in the community environment for Age Concern, a job that gave me the direction to follow a career in care homes. I started working at Priestley Care Home in 2007, employed initially as a senior carer. I enjoyed working with the residents and would often give up my free time to join in and organise activities and events that the residents would enjoy. I was promoted to Deputy Manager of the home in 2011 at which time I learned more about the running of the home allowing me to continue working on my NVQs, I’m now qualified for NVQ Level 5. When the opportunity arose I progressed to home manager in 2014.
I maintain the ethos that the residents are at the very centre of life at Priestley Care Home and I ensure that their home and environment are welcoming and comforting. One of my proudest achievements as a manager is our current Good rating from CQC.
I have lived in the Birstall area for the last thirty-six years and was raised in Batley Carr. I have 5 grown-up children and many grandchildren. I know the local area very well and I have spent my entire career at Priestley promoting and maintaining strong relationships with the homes community. I enjoy holidays, walking, crafting spending time with my family. My hobbies are often transferred into Priestley I will often make things for the residents to enjoy and I also donate these items to help raise money for the home's residents' fund.
