This review is based on the improvements made over the past three months, moreover, since additional new management assistance was put in place.

The overall standard appearance of the home is a massive improvement. The staff appear to be more engaging with the residents, with more staff on hand. Keep up the good work.

Very impressed with the amount of improvements over the past 2 months and their plans for the coming months, seem to be well thought out and achievable. The push to recruit permanent staff for the continuity of the residents is commendable. It is clear that the new culture being built within the home is promoting a happier environment for all. Thank you for looking after my mum for me.

My father was a resident from August 2023 until his passing in March 2024. During all this time our family had no complaints whatsoever, he was clean, well-fed, and entertained. Staff were lovely and caring. We visited on different days/times and had no issues at all, manager and deputy manager always had time to talk to us, hardly any agency workers. His room was spotless, and daily activities. In the end, the staff were so compassionate and genuinely upset when he passed, highly recommended, cannot fault the care my dad received.

My stepfather was really cared for while he was in Highfield Care Centre Leeds until he passed away, what really disappointed and upset me was that no staff showed up at his funeral when I notified them of the church and time, I even made the phone call to the home when I got to the church and was given an unacceptable excuse, my stepfather only had me as his only family and only I and my husband were at his service until 2 of the funeral people came into the church to attend the service which we appreciated, just for future all care homes should have someone at residents funerals.

Mum is happy at Highfield Care Centre, has been here almost six years. I feel she is well looked after and the staff are always pleasant, helpful and caring but once again, I feel the increase in fees to almost £4,000 per month is not justified. Activities is much improved, which Mum enjoys and it is nice to see her doing things more like when she first came here. Food always seems nice. But the clothes problem starting off again, new tops and jumpers disappeared since beginning of the year which is not good.

My brother-in-law is well cared for, gets a good, varied diet. He seems frustrated with night staff.
We are grateful that he has good care and very safe.

We appreciate care he gets with his condition.

Overall happy with the care of my uncle, if he has a fall or any other medical I am informed straightaway and kept informed as to what's happening.

He always looks clean and tidy and seems quite content. Staff are all friendly and interact with him, this is very important as he is a very sociable man, when asked he says they are nice and look after him. Meals always look nice and he is offered drinks regularly which is important as he has a catheter. The usual little niggles i.e. missing socks and hankies but otherwise very good.

My auntie hasb een in residence since April 2023 and I am so happy with how she has settled into her new home. All the staff is so friendly and you can see the care that the residents receive by the happiness on their faces. The home has such a homely feel to it and the staff create this pleasant atmosphere. I would s strongly recommend Highfield to anyone looking for care.

Every time I visit my mum, the staff are very helpful and give me updates, but I get so confused when my mum says she hates it there. She might hate it anywhere, but there is a problem with some other residents, one of whom has a big problem with her. I have raised the problem, but it still continues. I am looking for alternatives, at least a bit closer to me.

My grandma has been at Highfield Care Centre since October now and the staff have been amazing with the care they have given to her.
My grandma is happy and smiling again and that is down to the care and understanding given to her by the carers.
As a family, we have no more worries and know that my grandma is safe.
We are updated by the home regularly about my grandma and any changes.
The management team are very supportive towards us as a family and understanding.

It was a hard decision to place my grandma in a care facility but it was the best decision we have made and especially choosing Highfield Care Centre.

The current management team has turned Highfield around. The team of carers are excellent. Everybody treated my mother with respect and dignity. The building is clean, tidy and well-run. My advice is to look through the decor etc, when choosing a home and concentrate on the way the residents are cared for. I suspect that you would have to go a long way to find a home that treats people better.

Since the day my mum went into your care. I have nothing but praise, gratitude and thankfulness and look after my mum. Also for the thought and understanding, you have shown myself and family when visiting or speaking with you on the phone. I could not wish for my mum to be in a better home, you show total care and love for her and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Overall Experience

My father was in Highfield for four months. He went in initially for respite with a view of permanent residency there. Unfortunately, things didn't go well. My father has dementia and the staff were unable to meet his needs. My dad tried to get out as he was unhappy, the staff didn't know how to manage these situations and he was put on a sedative. There were two safeguarding incidents where my dad got injured. The second one he was pushed over by another resident and he ended up with a broken arm. I was told about the incident at the time. A few days later I was told he had fallen and not been pushed. After further investigation, I was told he had been pushed. When I visited on more than one occasion he had his pyjama shirt on under his shirt and no socks on, sometimes he had other people's clothes on. He is now in a home where his needs are met, he is happy and he has been taken off the sedative. I feel happy that my father is now being given the care he needs.

Marie BinderJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2024

My name is Marie Binder and I am the Home Manager of Highfield Care Centre Allerton Bywater

I have been a Home Manager since 2021 and caring is in my genes as I grew up around the care industry as my Mum was also a Care Home Manager.

I am really looking forward to the challenge in front of me working with this dedicated staff team and getting to know the fabulous residents.

I am married with two boys who keep me very busy with their sports. MMA, Football & Rugby.

Any spare time I have is generally spent exercising which is my way of relaxation.

I am super enthusiastic motivated and have drive and passion in everything I do.

At Highfield Care Centre I intend to lead from the front supporting each resident as individuals, respecting their wishes and values and caring for them with dignity.

Hi, my name is Tiffany Taylor, and I am the deputy manager at Highfield Care Centre. I have had 28 years of experience working within the elderly care sector.

I originally started at Highfield Care Centre as a senior carer, and over the past 8 years, I have worked in various roles, rising up to deputy manager.

My biggest achievement is completing my diploma level 5 in 2025. I love to promote a positive, happy environment for the residents and to see the residents smile. People would describe me as a bubbly, friendly person.

In my spare time, I spend time with my husband and my diva French Bulldog Piggy, who loves attention all the time and mum snuggles. I also love shopping.
