The Grove Care Home is a well-known and highly respected care home for older people set in peaceful surroundings in the pretty village of Waltham, just outside Grimsby.

With excellent staff and a homely environment, residents can enjoy the comforts of home whilst the having the assurance that the highly trained care team are on hand to help with any needs.

Residents enjoy spacious flats and rooms fitted to a high standard. They can personalise their flats with their own pictures and possessions. The Grove has been carefully thought out for all residents to maintain a high level of independence, from walk-in showers for ease of use, to kitchenettes in bedrooms to entertain families and friends privately.

The newly refurbished lounge and conservatory lead out onto a spacious patio enabling residents to relax and enjoy views of the country park. Residents can also now enjoy a pamper day in the newly added Elegance Hair Salon, or a hot drink in The Coffee Club Café. The home enjoys close ties with the local community and volunteers from the village often help out with events and activities enabling residents to maintain friendships, hobbies and interests. Residents enjoy a lively program of activities from gardening to crafts, painting and singing.

My father was recently admitted to The Grove for permanent residential care. He has reached the age of 94 and, much as he would have liked to continue living independently, he realised that this was no longer an option due to his failing health and mobility problems. Both he and our family were naturally
apprehensive about the move and how he would settle.
I cannot thank all of the staff enough for the time and effort they have all put in to ensure that Dad has coped with the move and integrated as well as he has. Nothing has been too much trouble for them and they have answered our questions and addressed any concerns we have had quickly, professionally and, most importantly, in a lovely, kindly manner.

It is not an easy decision to have to go into a care home. We would all rather stay in our own homes. But as circumstances change and things are sometimes beyond our control we have to face reality. The care and compassion shown to my father since he went into The Grove Care Home has been so much more
than I expected. He is a very private and dignified gentleman who has adapted to his new life. This is all down to the staff at the home. Nothing is too much trouble, they do everything with a smile on their faces and positive attitude. I feel very lucky to have him close by and in a caring, clean environment.

May I please extend the thanks of all my family to the staff at The Grove Care Home for all the care and attention they have given to Mum during her stay there. We are all sure that she would like to be younger, more mobile and more independent but there only is what is and the carers have given her
security and contentment. Just as important they have involved her in many activities which help her both physically and mentally. We can only hope that they are made aware of the great work that they do.

Mum always seems happy and well cared for. The staff are always friendly and helpful and I can tell that Mum has bonded with them. It's a lovely home with nice modern decor and beautiful surroundings.

I sometimes feel that the home is understaffed, especially at weekends and evenings.
It often takes a very long time for staff to let you in, especially a problem when I have the service user with me (at weekends and after office hours).
I often think my mother isn't encouraged to drink enough as
there is often not a jug provided (unable to get a drink herself).
Their response to a recent illness was excellent.

My father was reluctant to go into any care homes, but after moving into The Grove and with the help of the staff and manager, he settled in very well. The staff keep me well informed on how he is doing and as I live nine hours away those phone calls are invaluable to me.
I was amazed at how well he
looked when I visited, he says The Grove has everything he needs... nice clean room and good food.
I don’t have any concerns, knowing The Grove will take very good care of him.

My mum is well cared for, staff are kind and very responsive to her needs. She regularly takes part in a variety of activities which she enjoys.
I always feel welcome when I visit and the staff I meet are friendly and helpful. When I have had concerns about my mum’s health, the senior carers are very
good at contacting the GP and keeping me informed.
I have peace of mind that my mum is being well looked after.

A good choice for Mum and the staff are nice people, the days are filled with a good level of activities. More dementia facilities are due which will help. Can be less focused on weekends when seemingly running at lower staff levels which can be a concern.

Last year, after two years of bringing the problem to staffs' attention, something was finally done about my aunt's hearing. Prior to going into the home, she had been to the hospital and was fitted with 2 hearing aids. Every visit I made (once every three or four months), I was having to get close
up to her ear and shout for her to hear me because she never had a hearing aid. Every time and in phone calls I have stressed the importance of having a hearing aid so she can hear staff, join in activities, and join in conversations with residents. It was even suggested to me by one of the staff that she had selective hearing. (Strange then that the hospital had said she needed hearing aids). No one should have to live their life in silence if they have the opportunity to hear.
Finally, her heating was tested after the wax had been removed, and she has been given one hearing aid. Once one was sorted, the plan was to do the same with the other. Made visit. No hearing aid. There is much more to say.

I am always impressed with the care Mum receives and how the staff pick up any issues with Mum's health as they did when Mum had an issue with her eyes. The doctor was contacted, and medication was organised... I have been unwell recently and haven't been able to visit; it is such a relief to know she
is being well taken care of... thank you.

Myself and two family members were treated to afternoon tea with my mum. The whole experience was brilliant. The tea was lovely and mum had a big smile on her face the whole time. She had always enjoyed eating out and it obviously brought back happy memories, and the experience made new ones for us.

My mum recently moved into the Grove and settled into this amazing home. Nothing was too much trouble and the care received was wonderful, as was the food and surroundings. Her flat was lovely and I cannot thank the amazing staff enough and credit to them all for making her feel at home.

My Mum has very high regard for the staff taking care of her and always has praise for them. It has been a difficult transition for my mum as she joined the Grove during the lockdown, so still has not felt the full experience of the care home's facilities but hopefully, things will change and everyone
can get back to some kind of normality. Our family are very grateful to The Grove for keeping our Mum safe - so thank you all for your hard work and patience, it must be such a difficult and testing time.

My Mother needed some short term respite care after a couple of falls at home to build up her health again and for us to have time to put in place some support for her to live at home safely. My mother thought her room was lovely and the location was fabulous with views of gardens and a park. The staff
were very caring, supportive and attentive to her needs. There were lots of activities available. She particularly praised the food, and the chef was really helpful in coaxing her to eat by making to order what she fancied a couple of times. Apparently, the roast beef was the best she had ever tasted. Everything was very clean and well maintained. In the times that I visited, I got a sense that this was a happy caring place to live.

Knowing Mum is in a caring and safe environment gives us peace of mind. To mum, within a couple of months of living at The Grove (2018), she felt it was not just a 'care home' but her home. Even before the Covid pandemic, the staff and residents had become her adopted family and friends and that gave
us great reassurance during this last year. We are so grateful to all the staff for all their hard work and extra duties during this last year, especially.

10 out of 10 for everything. Nothing is to much trouble for the entire team of staff. Even through these extreme times, we have full confidence and peace of mind in the care given to my mum. Telephone calls are catered for on a moments notice, and the hangouts video calls are a Godsend for Mum.

Mel has been at The Grove for over 16 years starting as a carer, she has worked as a night Senior and now day Senior Carer. Mel has seen lots of changes at The Grove over the years.
"It's been great to really get to know all the residents in the long term, a few of which have been here since I started working at The Grove. We also have a great team of volunteers here at The Grove who do an amazing job running art groups, bingo sessions and helping out at events, there's a great atmosphere here".


Mel enjoys seeing the residents enjoying themselves especially when there's music and entertainment for them to sing along to.
Mel lives locally and has 4 children and 5 grandchildren, she has NVQ level 3 and specialist medication training.
