Reviews

9.5 The Grove Care Home has a Review Score of 9.5 (9.462)

The Review Score of 9.5 (maximum of 10) for The Grove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 21 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for The Grove Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.462 for The Grove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (138 Excellents x 5) + (95 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 251 Ratings = 4.462

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Grove Care Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 10.4 positive Reviews (52 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 11 Reviews ÷ 10.4 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

The Grove is a caring home. It feels like residents and staff are one big family. They nursed my mum as she was on end of life care, and the care they gave her was very special. She died on July 18th this year. They are also looking after my father at The Grove. He is 91 and he is happy there. He sits in the doorway of his room and everyone talks to him. He sometimes sings to them which makes everyone smile.

My Mum and Dad went into The Grove Care Home in July after being told Mum needed end of life care and Dad wanted to be with her as they had been married 67 years. The care was excellent towards Mum and Dad and nothing was too much trouble and we were there day and night. All the family had excellent support. Mum's end of life care at the home was very caring and met all Mum's needs. Sadly Mum only had about five weeks there but when the funeral directors came to take Mum to the chapel of rest, all the family thought it was a lovely way of showing their respect, as they all and I mean all the staff, lined up as she drove away. Dads care continues to be excellent.

My mother came to this home after the home which was in the place that she had lived in her whole life, closed down. So it was a big move for her. She settled really well and with myself and partner living around the corner, we were able to visit every day. The staff encouraged my mum to eat her meals in the dining room and she made friends very quickly. But sadly her condition deteriorated very quickly and the staff were brilliant and very caring. We would very much recommend The Grove. The manager was also very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Mum died after 4 weeks there, but we were so pleased she moved here.

My mother has resided at The Grove for nearly three years and she has loved it never once saying that she wished she hadn't come. The home is like a first class hotel. Mum loves her flat and calls it home. The care is superb and the staff are always friendly and willing to help. Nothing is too much to ask! I chose this home by word of mouth from a satisfied relative. What a relief to find such a caring, pleasant and happy home. I know that mum is so well looked after and is safe and secure. I highly recommend it to all.

I like the privacy The Grove Care Home provides - once your door is closed there is no noise heard from neighbouring flats. The carers are particularly good in caring for those who are bewildered or have dementia - comforting, reassuring and showing support. They are magnificent in helping those who cannot feed themselves ensuring they get a good meal and keeping them calm and happy.

I think we are lucky in having good carers. I have been shown nothing but kindness and respect across the board, even after death the care goes on- a Welsh lady who passed away recently left looking presentable surrounded with daffodils.

My mother has been in the care of The Grove in Grimsby for the period of 1 year up to mother recently passing away due to dementia. I cannot thank the team, staff and management enough. Very supportive and caring, very professional on dealing with all aspects that occur and required dealing with in the last weeks of my mother's life. The palliative/end of life care was outstanding and I thank all concerned. I would recommend The Grove to family and friends as they made mother's last year of life a "happy one" being altogether rather than on her own.

My mother is a resident and has been a resident for the past four years. The family and I visit regularly and none of us, including mother, has ever had any cause to complain. In fact, mother and our family believe it is nothing short of 'First Class'
Management and staff are very professional and caring, always devoted to the residents and helpful to relatives. As her son, I have visited other care homes in the local area and The Grove is by far the best.
The family and I rest assured my now 91year old mother is being looked after extremely well. The family and I are always stating that if any of us, in the future needed residential care, The Grove is the one.

In April of last year the costs rose and the reasons given were refurbishment of rooms. My mother's room has not been refurbished since she moved in eighteen months ago. I'm not sure how often the rooms are cleaned but I spotted a biro on the bathroom floor several weeks ago, close to the sliding doors and it was still there a few weeks later.

My mother's move to a care home was something I was very worried about. It was sad for me to see her loose her independence. It has however worked out better than I could have hoped thanks to the excellent staff and good management.

The home is pleasantly situated in a quiet area of Waltham overlooking a park. The staff are always friendly and the management run the home in a professional and competent manner. Communication is good and any problems with family are notified to us immediately. There are activities daily so every day is different. There are many walks around the home and this enables you to take family out easily.

My father was a permanent resident until his failing health caused his death. During his time at The Grove he received excellent care and attention together with genuine compassion and friendship. Dad was always treated with the greatest respect and dignity. I felt no matter what time of the day his family called the care was 24/7 for him and us. I submitted a review after dads death to say what an excellent home The Grove was. I believe they are worthy of this update review due to the aftercare they have shown making me feel welcome on return visits, when I take Christmas cards in. Their care and memories of dad are always upheld. The warmth and welcome given to family on visits is excellent. The staff and service is excellent. I would highly recommend The Grove as an excellent care home.

Mum has been at The Grove for over a year now. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. I have never smelled urine etc as I have in other homes. It is a nice small, compact home. The grounds are lovely and for the residents to face the public park is lovely, to watch the general public weakling dog etc is nice.
The activities are wonderful. So many to choose from and they are regular and organised. A tribute to the hard work the activity organiser - she does a superb job. It is very difficult watching for my mum sink deep into dementia but The Grove home certainly have given my mum the quality of life she deserves. I would recommend The Grove to other for sure.

My husband and I have just enjoyed a pre Christmas meal with my mum at The Grove. We were served by the care staff, greeted on arrival and seated in a beautifully decorated dining room. We were given an option of wine or a soft drink. We had previously chosen our meals. We had opted for prawn cocktail, which was served with a fresh crisp salad, followed by Beef in Guinness, dumpling, mashed potatoes, cabbage and carrots. The beef was beautifully tender and delicious, but the cabbage was over cooked For dessert my husband had pear and berry crumble and I had ice-cream with butterscotch sauce. The meal ended with tea or coffee with an after dinner mint. The whole meal was presented and delivered well by the attentive staff. The meal was followed by entertainment in the lounge.
My mum is lucky to have a very large room overlooking the entrance and small wooded area. She enjoys seeing people coming and going, and has the added advantage of being near to the lift and stairs, so there is not much goes on that she doesn't see and know about! Her transition into full time care was made easy by the staff and we have been made welcome at all times.

My mother has recently died, but was in The Grove Care Home for approx. 14 months. My mother had dementia and the care & attention of all the employees has been exemplary. I couldn't have wished for more love, attention & respect towards my mother. My mother's room had its own kitchen, bathroom and the main room was big enough for a bed, chairs, draw/cupboard space and tv. There was a large lounge downstairs for residents with TV and a quiet room. The home had activities for the residents and sometimes entertainment i.e. singer. At the end of her life, staff again were extremely helpful and kind to the family, nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend The Grove.
