Living experience is exceptional. The staff are led by a very caring and experienced Manager.

The food is always beautifully presented and to an extremely high standard. Nothing is too much trouble for any member of staff.

Mum lived there from March 2019 until May 2020 when she passed away. Prior to that she had been there for respite. Her care was very good although she wasn’t always the easiest person to care for. The food - excellent and they were constantly reviewing her diet and fluid intake due to her low weight. There are lots of activities to do although mum only liked the music ones despite the carers trying to get her to join in. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the home. The manager is excellent and sorted any problems immediately and was very supportive of my husband and myself too.

It was lovely to be able to see Dad after so many weeks of lockdown. He looked really well and he recognised me even with a mask on. The facilities were great, out in the garden in a gazebo - brilliant! The manager and staff recognized the importance of visits from family and made this happen as soon as they were able. They have done a great job during this crisis.

Overall Experience

Mother-in-law is 96 and moved into Firth House in January 2020 due to mobility problems. She was made to feel at home straight away and the quality of care and caring nature of the staff has been truly exceptional. She is always treated with respect and the genuine care shown has resulted in her fully accepting that she is in the best place and very well looked after. The family was very concerned she would be demanding to go home within a couple of weeks as she is very independent-minded. Much to our amazement, this has not been the case and this is definitely down to the caring nature of the staff. They always put their residents needs first and we can not praise them too highly. They are a credit to their profession and themselves and have gained the complete respect of all our family. In these very difficult times, they have gone well beyond their simple duty of care in looking after mother-in-law and in treating her as a member of their extended family have become an extended part of ours.

My mother passed away at Firth House on Monday 9th December.
I wish to tell you about the way in which the staff at this care home looked after my mother and related to family members.
My mother had been at the home for three and a half years, and have looked after her needs really well. They responded positively to any query or concern that we may have had, and showed genuine affection for my mother. My wife and I are confident that she has been in the best place to meet her needs.
During her final days, all members of the family were able to see her before she passed on. They came from New Zealand, Australia, London, Swansea, Newark and Pocklington to see her. Without exception, they commented on what a caring and welcoming place the home was.

Of course, the success of any organisation such as Firth House is dependent on the people who work there and how they are led. The home's manager runs an efficient, well-organised team, and deserves a lot of credit for her work.

From the minute my dad was accepted to Firth House we were always treated with respect and friendliness. The care my dad received until his death was loving, respectful and kind from management and staff. Nothing was too much trouble and Dad settled very well from the beginning and we never felt he was unhappy.

An amazing place which has restored my faith in care homes. I have been in many care homes both professionally and personally and Firth House stands head and shoulders above the rest. The management and team are amazing. They genuinely care and deliver a compassionate service to the resident and the family. The home is clean, well maintained, well designed, and very noticeably does not have a hint of that 'care home smell ' that so many places have.

I will always be grateful that the Firth House team looked after my grandma in her last months. We couldn't have found anywhere better.

My husband has been in Firth House Selby for 6 months and I cannot emphasise too strongly how caring, kind and efficient all the staff here have been. The facilities are superb, every interest is catered for, everyone is so patient and helpful and as he declined over the last few days, they were so kind and supportive and I value their friendship immensely.
