The recent virus that affected some of the residents of The Millings was professionally dealt with , and with lots of support for the residents and relatives , every one gave 100% and were never to busy to answer any worries that we had.
Mum looks forward to the activities that take place daily,
and we join in when we are there, and it is lovely to see her having a laugh and having a go at everything.

The Millings is a real "home". Not just a place where people live, but somewhere that provides a truly loving, caring and homely environment for its residents, their families who visit and friends of residents who call in to visit old friends.
Mum moved in for a trial period and when she found independent
living too challenging. That was nearly five years ago and the Millings staff have both enriched her life, provided loving and attentive support and care and made her a real home from home.
The staff are, and always will be, The Millings' most valuable asset who clearly care deeply for their charges and for whom, nothing is too much.
As the son of a resident I have always been impressed by how well run and organised the home is, have always been treated with professionalism and thoughtfulness, and value the staff at all levels of who are genuinely superb.
Thank you for what you do and for doing it so well.

Dad has been resident for over a year now and his needs are increasing. When speaking to staff members they are all aware of his well being and always happy to answer questions and offer assistance when approached. There are times when they appear to be understaffed and they are very busy, but I've
always found them to be polite and helpful. I feel happy to be in the Millings and ask for help.

The care and commitment shown by all staff is above and beyond my expectations. Mum enjoys living at The Millings and is very appreciative of everything that is provided. She has found friendship, help, great support and a sense of belonging. The staff are so supportive and caring. Thanks to their support
she can continue to lead a fulfilling and independent life. The Millings is so much more than a care home. I cannot praise it enough. Well done everybody!

The Millings has a calm quiet environment from the minute you walk in through the door. Any residents you meet on your way to your family member always say hello and seem very content.

It has a warm, friendly appeal when you enter the building.

It was a joy to visit our friend during her final few weeks in The Millings where she was so happy and appreciative of the loving care she was blessed to receive from every member of staff. As visitors, my wife and I were also welcomed with care and compassion at a sad time. Thank you.

A very friendly and welcoming environment, care staff lovely. I do feel is a little light on care staff at times, however they are all doing their very best. I have worked in this environment myself and that little extra time that can be given is everything to residents.

Mum initially went to The Millings for 3 weeks respite in February 2024, following a few days in hospital. Then she returned shortly afterwards, as a permanent resident, as she realised she could no longer cope at home, despite living next door to me.
The staff are quite simply amazing! From the Management
Team to the wonderful ladies who do the cleaning & laundry, everyone works so hard to make it an exceptional Care Home. The communication is fantastic, the staff are very helpful & friendly & I know Mum is being so well cared for by everyone. The staff are all brilliant at what they do...& they do it all with a smile! I've been so impressed by each & every one of them & I'm so grateful.
Reply from Bryony Lock, Home Operations Manager at The MillingsThank you so much for taking the time to leave such a kind and thoughtful review. It truly means a great deal to all of us at The Millings.
We're so pleased that your mum felt supported during her respite stay and confident enough to return as a permanent resident. Knowing that she feels well cared for, happy, and safe with us is exactly what we strive for every day.
Your lovely words about our whole team - from management through to housekeeping and laundry - will be shared with everyone.
Thank you again for your trust, your appreciation, and for being part of The Millings community. We're very grateful to support both you and your mum.
Warm regards,

My mother has been resident for just over 2 years now, and I am confident that we could not have found a better care home for her. The atmosphere is always lovely and welcoming, very homely and lots of laughter. The building & gardens are beautifully maintained and the residents are encouraged to make
the most of the space. The staff are excellent - friendly, professional and have proactively made adaptations as my mother as has become less able. There is a varied programme of activities, although at 97 my mother does not always feel up to participating, and the staff strike the right balance between encouraging her to join in but recognising when she just needs to rest. The messaging group is great, as it gives a chance to keep up with what has been going on during the week between visits.
Reply from Bryony Lock, Registered Manager at The MillingsThank you so much for your kind words. I'm so pleased to hear you're happy with the care your mother is receiving at The Millings. I'll be sure to pass on your lovely review to the team.

I have just had a weeks respite at The Millings Bedale. I found it quite an experience. The staff and residents were very welcoming, friendly and caring.
The activities and surroundings were acceptable, but I did not enjoy the food. Too little choice and oven cooked.
I found 5 PM until breakfast
is a long time, and it felt very lonely.

My mother-in-law has been a resident for just over a year and I have to say that the care and services provided by The Millings continues to be of the highest standard. All the staff I have met have been caring, helpful and attentive and always make me feel welcome, as have the friendly residents! There
is always someone around and plenty of activities going on. It's also great to be able to keep up to date with all the fun the residents are having via the frequent updates on a messaging app (for family and friends). My mother-in-law loves the social aspect, superb ambience and surroundings. Full marks from me!

My mother is approaching her 102nd birthday and has been a resident of The Millings since June 2022. remain totally reassured she is happy, safe, and receives the best possible care all round.

My dad couldn't manage on his own at home after my mum passed away and The Millings was recommended to us. He has been a resident there now for almost two years. The whole team have been lovely with him and always treat him with great respect, good humour and gentle care. It is never an ideal situation
when a parent has to go into a residential care facility - but I honestly think The Millings is the very best we could do for him. Myself or one of my sisters visit dad every day. We are always made to feel welcome by the Millings team - and they are all always very approachable and happy to address any concerns that we may have about how dad is doing or how his needs have changed. I am very happy to recommend The Millings.

From the moment I went to see The Millings as a possible care home for my dad, I was blown away by the coziness, the attention to detail to make it feel homely, and the friendly, helpful staff.
My dad has been a resident at The Millings for about 16 months now and tells us "he's glad he picked The
Millings, that he had seen it in a brochure and it was the place for him." Perhaps it was guided by the family, but he always says he's happy even to this day. Hearing him say that takes the pressure off the family, knowing he is in very friendly and professional hands. I highly recommend The Millings who always strive for the best care, always friendly and smiley. I say 10/10 for everything they do.

Mum has been in the Millings for nearly 12 months, her care has been excellent. The regular activity programme is varied and stimulating. Mum has really benefited from the encouragement and support given by all staff, her confidence has grown and therefore her desire to participate in social activities
has greatly improved.
When necessary, emergency response has been excellent and Mum feels very secure in her surroundings.
Staff are always busy and occupied with the residents but make time to listen and offer help when needed. Their sense of humour, patience and understanding has been greatly appreciated.
The overall atmosphere is very positive and caring, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Millings.

My mum stayed in The Millings after a spell in hospital at the start of 2023. We found the staff there to be kind, caring and understanding. They made her stay there a pleasure and made the transition back to her own home very easy. There was always someone present to answer any questions I had or put
something in place to help Mum. I would have no worries about recommending The Millings to anyone. I know Mum really enjoyed the varied food menu and the activities provided were amazing.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.494)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.494) out of 10 for The Millings is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.694 for The Millings is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 147 Ratings = 4.694
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Millings is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
