The Millings is perfect. It has the feel of a country hotel, the staff are fantastic and my mum has settled in well, especially with a few home comforts around her in her room. I know she is safe, well cared for and happy, which is all I could hope for.
Reply from Lou Squires, Managing Director at The MillingsThank you, Andy, for your lovely review. The team work so hard to make the home beautiful. Your mum has settled really well and enjoys her time sitting with the other residents having chats and putting the world to rights. I will pass your feedback on to the team. Thank you, Christine.

From the start of our enquiry (July) and up to the present day (where my mother has been a resident for 2 months), I have to honestly state that our expectations have been fully met. The home is well furnished, maintained and is very functional. It is in an excellent location in Bedale which really
helps when one can take Mum out and have a change when we visit - whether that be in the nearby park or enjoying a cream bun from the local bakers! The staff are excellent - always willing to help, engage and be available (sometimes at short notice) to discuss my mother's welfare or address my questions.
Everything is transparent and having had Mum stay in a previous residential home, I am absolutely confident that the Millings gives Mum a comfortable, safe, friendly and enjoyable environment. All credit to the manager and the staff team.
Reply from Lou Squires, Managing Director at The MillingsThank you so much for your review, it's lovely to hear that you feel your mum is enjoying being with us. The staff work very hard to ensure all residents are comfortable, safe and enjoying their stay with us. The park is lovely and I know your mum enjoys going out with the well-being team to the park and also exploring our lovely gardens too. I will ensure I let them know your feedback. My mum was very fortunate to have the opportunity to start her temporary care at The Millings, following a move from hospital. She is very happy and has decided to make a permanent move here. The friendliness of all the staff has helped her decision. A huge thank you to everyone.

My father has been a resident at The Millings for 10 months now and since his arrival he has received wonderful care. The home is kept extremely clean, tidy and decorated to a high standard. All staff treat him with respect ensuring all his needs are met. I am always made welcome when I visit and updated
on Dad's health. When there has been any correspondence received by Dad that required my action, the staff have contacted me promptly so things can be sorted quickly. I am kept well informed of all activities that going on at the home on a weekly basis that vary from watercolour painting and singalongs to carpet bowls and board games. Dad is very happy and is extremely well looked after.

Our experience from initially enquiring and viewing the Millings right through to the day my 93-year-old mother was received and cared for at the Millings was second to none. The manager and all her team made sure that my mother was welcomed with open arms. It is a great comfort to know that she is
now being cared for in a loving, respectful and compassionate environment. The manager and her team could not do enough and went beyond the extra mile to ensure that my mother is comfortable, safe, and cared for. She has everything to assist her in making her feel at home.
Reply from Lou Squires, Managing Director at The MillingsThank you so much for the lovely review Shelagh, it's a pleasure having your mother staying with us. Christine and her team work hard to make what can be a huge transition as comfortable and reassuring as possible. I'll be sure to share your feedback with them.

My stepfather has settled very well into the Millings now and has been cared for extremely well by all staff he comes into contact with. Although he has several health challenges, he has definitely improved physically now that his medication and dietary needs are looked after. His room and all areas
are cleaned and kept pristine at all times, as are the gardens which he enjoys, when possible. Well done everyone at The Millings, you do a fabulous job.
Reply from Lou Squires, Managing Director at The MillingsThanks so much for such a wonderful review Jude, it's a pleasure having your dad as part of our community and we're thrilled that our lovely gardens are bringing so much pleasure to us all. My mum is the gardener and has done a super job, she loves to see the residents enjoying the sunshine amongst the flowers.

We needed to find a respite home for Dad quickly as Mum fell unexpectedly and fractured her femur and The Millings sprung to mind as we live in Bedale. We took Dad for a visit and were overwhelmed by its appearance. It is immaculate and looks just like a five-star hotel. Dad decided it was the place
for him and he moved in last Saturday. They are very accommodating and are willing to work his meal times around him being absent on an afternoon to go and visit Mum and his tea is ready for him on his return. Dad has been there less than a week now and the care he is given is second to none. The food is also amazing - Dad has said he will need a larger pair of trousers as it is so good. I would definitely recommend The Millings and it’s very caring staff to anyone looking for a care home.
Reply from Lou Squires, Managing Director at The MillingsThank you so much for such a wonderful review Jane, the comment about the larger pair of trousers made me chuckle. The food is lovely and very moreish. It's a real pleasure having your dad stay with us.

My dear grandmother, who is over 100, has now been at The Millings for a month and is being very well cared for so it's about time I wrote this review. I want to thank The Millings for responding better than any of more than 10 other Care Homes in the area that I contacted with an urgent enquiry as
to whether they would be able to provide recuperative (and potentially long term) care for my grandmother. At the time, she was in hospital following a fall and considered medically fit for discharge but not safe to return home without 24 hour care in place i.e. she was considered to be "bed blocking". If The Millings had not come to the rescue, she would have had to wait for a place on a rehabilitation ward. I perish to think what harm further enforced bed rest might have caused. The Millings truly justifies the accolade "outstanding" because it was the only place which didn't hesitate because of her age, but got on with assessing her needs and making arrangements for her arrival.
Reply from Lou Squires, Managing Director at The MillingsThank you Tim so much for your lovely review, I'm sure it may help to reassure relatives who find themselves in similar circumstances. It's a real pleasure having your grandmother as part of our community.

My father has only been a resident for a short while but from his first visit, he was clear that he wanted to come and stay, without looking elsewhere. The standards of cleanliness and décor are outstanding and everyone was so welcoming. Dad has settled in well and especially loves the garden and being
able to join in activities where he is able. Knowing that he is in a safe environment where he is well looked after is so important, especially as I will be living some distance away. Thank you to all the team.

I visited my Dad at The Millings in April on a trip from Australia and the staff went out of their way to accommodate me despite all the Covid issues. I managed to see my Dad every day in a two week period and it was lovely to see how well cared for he was and to interact with the staff and get to know
them a little. Happy my Dad is in a great place with good care and excellent food. He’s a long way away from me, so knowing he is being well looked after is a comfort.

My mum was very against going near a care home and very grudgingly went in to give us a week's respite. Whilst she did struggle to integrate in a week with long term residents, which is not surprising, she had nothing but praise for the staff and the facilities. She said that every member of staff was
attentive, friendly and chatty. Her bed was very comfortable, and she was totally happy with the quality of the surroundings and the service.
Well done, The Millings.

The Millings is a high-end residential care home with impeccable credentials and it shows. My parents both moved in today. The staff could not have been more welcoming, professional and helpful, It really does have that home from home feel. Their rooms are lovely. Nothing is too much bother for the
staff, who appear to genuinely care about their residents. Being Friday, my parents really enjoyed the fish and chips!

Granny had a lovely, sunny room overlooking the beautiful garden. It was scrupulously clean and comfortable. We cannot praise The Millings highly enough. Our father has been a resident since mid-2019 and the standard of care through this residency has been excellent. Carers spend time with the individuals making them feel special. During the recent Covid-19 situation, all the staff have taken extra precautions,
keeping our precious loved ones safe and well.

We always knew that The Millings was the best care home in the area. When my neighbour and friend needed care, it was the first place we thought of, and we were lucky they were able to accommodate her, and we have not been disappointed. make the residents feel at home with their care to keep them happy and safe with lots of daily activities.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.300)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.300) out of 10 for The Millings is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.650 for The Millings is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 100 Ratings = 4.65
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.65 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Millings is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
