Situated on the edge of the bustling seaside town of Scarborough, this warm and inviting residence has great access to local amenities and it is a short drive from the sandy beaches of the North Yorkshire coast.

The home provides residential, dementia, respite and palliative care.

With bedrooms divided between the residential and dementia care units, staff think carefully about the type of room each resident needs.

Bedrooms are set across three floors and there are two lounges and a diner on the bottom two floors. The top floor is smaller and has a separate lounge as well as a diner/lounge. All furnishings and decor throughout the home are of an exceptionally high standard. There are also extensive grounds surrounding the home with nautical-themed gardens, a conservatory, well-maintained pathways and accessible planters for green-fingered residents to enjoy.

Chefs prepare tasty and nutritional meals on site. Residents are able to choose from a daily menu, and all special dietary requirements can be catered for.

Activities Coordinators plan regular events for residents, either in the home or on excursions to the local area. Requests will be met where possible and all planning takes place in consultation with residents and their families to ensure that there is something for everyone.

Every member of staff from management to maintenance are always friendly, polite and helpful. The care of our Mum is faultless. She is treated with respect and dignity at all times. As a family, we are also treated exceptionally well with opportunities to discuss mum and find out anything we need to
know.

We wanted to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for the care and treatment that Scarborough Hall and all the staff have given to our Father. Even through challenging & difficult times, he was always treated with utmost care and compassion. Dad was always a caring and considerate
person who loved to help people and it was so nice for him to be able to spend his last few months in an environment which reciprocated this. Your staff and their passion for the residents shows the passion they have for the work they do & we clearly saw their emotions. The support you gave us together with the District Nursing and Hospice teams was amazing, from the constant care for Dad to the endless refreshments and care for us has made such a sad and difficult time a little easier to cope with. On the night of his passing, your staff were just fantastic and we can honestly say we embraced them as part of our family. So a huge thank you to you all for everything just AMAZING.

My mother has lived here since November 2014. We believe she is well cared for, in spite of this she has times when she is deeply unhappy. This worries us.
She does not seem to eat much. Last time we called she has rejected a crusty roll which she had been given in spite of the fact she has no bottom
teeth. Perhaps she chose it herself?!
Her room has become very shabby, her bedside lamp was taken away and not returned and her TV has only just began to work.
Reply from Bethany Gibbons, Marketing assistant at Barchester Scarborough Hall Care HomeThank you for your comments. We welcome all feedback that will help us to improve our services.
We are sorry that in this instance we have not been able to achieve excellence in all areas of this review of Scarborough Hall.

I W’s mothers bedroom is in the process of being refurbished as we were aware of there being a couple of areas for improvement in the appearance of her bedroom. The lamp has been replaced and we do ensure all of our rooms are furnished to the highest specifications with the resident’s comfort in mind.
In terms of the food & dining offered at Scarborough Hall, we have recently made some changes to our catering service to enhance our resident dining experience and have introduced a new “Spring and Summer Menu” offering a choice of appetizing and nutritionally balanced meals. The Scarborough Hall team seeks regular feedback from residents about the choice of meals served and this helps us to plan our menus, ensuring that all meals offered are appropriate for each resident.
If there is anything you would like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to contact customercare@brighterkind.com or pop into the home to speak to me anytime. Many thanks, Charlotte Nurse, Home Manager.

My mother has been at Scarborough Hall Care Home for 18 months. It is run like a hotel. the staff are efficient and friendly. There is always a listening ear when we have concerns to share. Very good programme of activities to keep mum busy. Good food which we sometimes enjoy with mum too. Good support
too from doctor, district nurses and hospice care at home team. Scarborough Hall Care Home is the best!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.756)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.756) out of 10 for Barchester Scarborough Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.806 for Barchester Scarborough Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (192 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 222 Ratings = 4.806
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Scarborough Hall Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 89 registered maximum number of service users is 17.8, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
