Barchester Appletree Grange Care Home staff have been my mother's guardian angels. I am unable to nominate an employee of the month of this outstanding team as each and every member of staff has shown our dear Mam respect and treated her with the utmost dignity. More importantly given her the best person-centered
loving care and we appreciate their understanding of our Mam's wonderful personality and sense of humour. We feel relieved and forever thankful that she has been in the safe and capable hands of the management and staff at Barchester Appletree Grange Care Home. Afterall, Mam is our most treasured and loved member of the family and deserves nothing but the best and this she has received with thanks.
Reply from Elizabeth Brown, General Manager at Barchester Appletree Grange Care HomeThank you to all the family for their kind words, mum was a pleasure to care for and all the staff will always have fond memories of her wonderful smile and the support of the family.

Well kept very clean home. Staff always willing to talk about residents, plenty of activities to keep minds working. My father has improved loads since coming to Appletree. If he had stayed at the previous home I don't think he would still be with us. Love the open days, raffles and tombola's. The atmosphere
is relaxed, homely feel about the place with nice nick nacks like a proper home not a care home.

I find Appletree Grange to be a home loving atmosphere, staff are lovely with the residents, if I have any concerns they are easy to talk to and give me peace of mind, they have summer fairs, which are quite good, we have sing-alongs which get the residents involved and which they enjoy. All in all
I am quite happy with the care there.

I have been very pleased with the excellent care my mother receives at Applegate Grange. The staff are very professional but also warm and affectionate with the residents. The home is always clean and smells fresh and welcoming. Visitors are very welcome and are offered a cup of tea or coffee to share
with their loved ones. This means so much to my mother as it was something we always did together. Any health problems have been picked up quickly and acted upon. There is a regular hairdresser, podiatrist, dentist and of course health professionals in attendance. I have complete peace of mind knowing my mother is in Applegate Grange.

Visited the home on the 30 of July 2015, spent most of the morning with mother the day being her 97th birthday. The home had a very pleasant atmosphere with good clean surroundings. I found the menu for the day good wholesome food, mum appeared to be very happy at Appletree Grange which makes me contented
that she's in good hands.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.666) out of 10 for Barchester Appletree Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.741 for Barchester Appletree Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (149 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 193 Ratings = 4.741
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Appletree Grange Care Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
