My mam had been a resident in Armstrong House for the last two and a half years until she passed away last week.
I can honestly say that this is a fantastic place for anyone to be looked after. The residents are all treated with the utmost respect and dignity and are extremely well looked after. The staff know the residents so well and genuinely care for them. The care is of a high standard and the communication with the family was great.
There are two great activity coordinators who organise a wide variety of activities.
My mam loved all the staff and during her last week there it was obvious that the staff thought the world of her too. The carers were amazing caring for both my mam and the family during her final week there - we were so impressed by their compassion.

The manager has set high standards and it really shows - she runs a fantastic care home. Thank you.

When looking for a care home for my twin brother Armstrong House stood out. This first impression was borne out by the standard of care he received. In particular, the attitude of the staff was at all times warm and caring towards my brother who clearly felt he was loved and respected. In summary, our experience of Armstrong House was that it is all that a care home should be.

My lovely mam was admitted here in July after spending 6 weeks in a hospice. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the final 6 days of my mams life. Right from the moment, we entered Armstrong House we were made to feel welcome and listened to by the fantastic manager. We felt very reassured that the care my mam would receive would be caring, compassionate and individualised and it absolutely was. This is a large and very busy home but feels calm and under control at all times even though staff never stop for a minute. I can't praise the care my mam received enough ...it was exceptional. The manager and end of life champion amazing staff nurse attended mams funeral even though they had only known mam 6 days. Thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts. You do an amazing job.

I am very pleased with the care provided by the home in which my mam stayed in for nearly two years.

I only wished the care available in Portugal, where I live, were as good.

My mum was at Armstrong House for 18 months until she passed away recently. She had dementia and was always treated with dignity, respect, patience, kindness and love. I had complete peace of mind when I wasn’t there. The staff adored her and her face lit up when they came into her room, which is the highest praise of all. She was poorly when she first arrived and she improved enormously as a result of the wonderful nursing care she received, backed up by a GP from the local surgery who visits weekly, knows all the residents very well, and delivers exceptional care for them.

The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the whole team – nurses, carers, housekeeping, catering and maintenance- are unfailingly cheerful, kind, compassionate and thoughtful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. When my mum passed away, her carers were sensitive, immensely kind and supportive and took as much care of me as they did of her. They felt like extended family and I can’t thank them enough.

My dad was a resident here for over a year and in that time our family got to know the staff here really well as dad was visited almost every day. I always found the staff to be cheerful, welcoming and genuinely caring towards the residents. There are daily activities to keep the residents socially engaged if they wish to join in and the staff were great at keeping dad entertained. It was good to know that my dad was being so well cared for and had some activity to join in with while he was able to do so. I would highly recommend Armstrong House care home if you are in the difficult position of having to choose one for a member of your family.

My husband was in care at Armstrong House where he was treated with care, dignity, (and even love) and knowing this meant that my family and I were given peace of mind at this difficult time.

I would not hesitate to recommend Armstrong House to friends, although the hardest thing to do to your dearest family is put them in care.

My father lived in Armstrong House for the final 15 months of his life and I believe he had a better quality of life being there than if he had remained at home. This is due to the increased social interaction with other residents and staff and by joining in the many varied activities and parties provided. His care needs were high and he was attended to with kindness. He also enjoyed all the meals provided. The family are very grateful to the manager and to all the staff for everything they provided in the care and wellbeing for my father. I couldn't have wished for a nicer place for dad to be. Thank you.

On behalf of our family, I would like to pass on our appreciation and thanks to all members of staff that attended and cared for our uncle in his short time in "Armstong House".
I can say that we family members were also cared for with all of our needs etc, being met with respect and dignity in our harrowing time.
All members of the staff were very professional at all times dealing with the needs of both the ill patient and family.

So we as a family send our thanks to all at "Armstong House".

Mum was only in this nursing home for a short time. However, the care shown was excellent, from both management and caregivers, the service was excellent. All staff showed support, professionalism and were very friendly. We were made to feel at home and at ease at this difficult time. I would certainly recommend this care home.

My Mam was a resident from December 2015 until her passing on 2nd October. She was well cared for during this time, enjoying activities in which the family were also welcome to participate. Mam especially enjoyed the occasions when there was a singer visiting the home. The care on the residential floor was outstanding, not only to Mam, but to the whole family too.

The kitchen staff always accommodated Mams fussy appetite and the laundry staff always took care with Mams clothing. Any requests we had were always dealt with promptly. The end of life care was so compassionate and I will be eternally grateful to the outstanding staff at Armstrong House.

I just want to start by saying the biggest thank you ever to all of the staff at this fantastic facility. During my nan's 2 year stay, they showed her and us nothing but respect, love and care. My nan's dignity was always a priority, even right at the end of her life. The staff there became like family and not just carers. Even little requests that were made by my nan or us were always met no matter how big or small it was, she was cared for in a way in which we would have done ourselves and to the highest standard at all times.

The staff genuinely loved my nan and that has shown over the last few weeks especially, some of them even used to call her auntie or nana and that would make her smile. During her end of life, the staff were amazing with my family caring for us and supporting us at all times in a very personal way. Armstrong House is like a family and I couldn't be more thankful for everything they have done and for that, I will always be grateful. Amazing.

My Mother was a resident in Armstrong House since December 2015 and has just recently passed away. The end of life care shown to my mother was outstanding, the care and compassion shown to my mother and all of our family who stayed with her for the last few days of her life was heartwarming and I truly believe she would not have received this level of care anywhere else. Thank you Armstrong House for everything.

Meet the Team (1)

Cheryl Bailey
Cheryl BaileyJob Title:Home Manager

I’m a Registered Nurse with over 25 years of experience in care home management.

I’ve achieved my Level 4 in Management training and am also a qualified mental health first aider.

I have experience working for large care providers and care homes, including looking after a multi-site home that I helped to turn around from a Requires Improvement rating to Good in all areas within six months. I joined Care UK after hearing great things and wanting to become part of the team.

My role is centred around making sure residents and families are happy, and my favourite part of my job is spending time with residents and their relatives. In this role, it’s important to be open, friendly and outgoing. I believe the Home Manager needs to be a people person, have an open-door policy and always be approachable.

As a team, we support each other like a family through good times and bad. I feel proud of what we do when residents are happy in the home.

I like reading and doing crafts when I’m not working. I also enjoy spending time with my family.
