Just a short hop from Newcastle and a pleasant drive from the historic Corbridge Roman town and Hadrian’s Wall, Sovereign Lodge is a purpose-built home in the village of Westerhope. It is connected to its smaller adjacent sister home, Sovereign Court, and provides residential and respite care to those living with dementia.

The care home offers residential care, dementia care and respite care with a highly skilled team of compassionate and committed carers who strive to deliver the highest possible level of care.

The atmosphere of the home is warm and friendly and staff encourage residents to make it as personal as possible, adding their own familiar items to their spacious rooms.

The care home is operated by Mariposa. Everyone in a Mariposa Home is treated with the dignity, respect and compassion that you and your family would wish for.

Our mam has settled into Sovereign Lodge (Care Home) since early summer; it took her a few months to get used to not being able to lock her door, but I have to say, it is such a huge relief to witness, her total attitude and demeanour change with her being so very content and extremely happy with how
well cared for she is by all the staff at Sovereign Lodge! She tells us that the staff cannot do enough for her and are very kind, and they even appear with a nice cup of tea when she hasn't asked for one and are always checking in to see how she is! Easy access to the communal areas has meant that Mam has made some friends with other residents and staff and looks forward to socialising with them in the restaurant and lounge areas. Mam was 93 in October and was surprised by staff followed by some fellow residents singing her Happy Birthday while carrying a cake to her, just fab (my sister left the cake for them to give her). She enjoys a bath a few times/week, as well as frequent showers. All is just perfect.

I love living here. The girls are like my family, and they look after me fantastically. I get everything I need here. The food is lovely, and it's nice and clean. I can't thank all the carers for everything they do to look after me.

My mam moved to Sovereign Lodge during a Covid lockdown in February 2021. With the help of the staff, she settled in very quickly, and within days, we noticed a huge difference in her; she changed from a very anxious, scared and confused lady to be much more relaxed and very happy. The way the staff
interact with my mam is lovely; they treat her more as a friend or family member than just an elderly resident. I personally have found all the staff to be friendly, helpful, supportive and professional, and I don't know how my mam or our family would cope without them.
Sadly my mam's health has recently declined. The manager and her team have been amazing and have gone above and beyond to care for her. I can honestly say Sovereign Lodge staff are simply the best and a credit to the group.

My mam has been in Sovereign Lodge for nearly eleven years now, and from day one, she has been looked after like royalty! The whole care team are fantastic and treat every resident with extreme care and dignity. The manager has an "open door" policy and is always in and around the home happily chatting
and reassuring the residents. The home itself is lovely, clean and has great facilities eg, nail bard, hairdressing salon and always has a welcoming, cosy atmosphere. I would not hesitate to highly recommend Sovereign Lodge to anyone looking for a home from home for their loved one.

Sovereign Lodge is a lovely care home. The staff are very friendly and most importantly are fantastic carers. The house has a happy vibe and all the residents are well cared for. The manager is always around to listen and is very approachable. The food is excellent and plenty.

I visit my partners mother on a weekly basis, Sovereign Lodge is always very warm and welcoming. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and my partners mum is very happy living there. I would certainly recommend it.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Every member of staff from management, carers, office staff, domestics, handyman and gardener are pleasant and always have time to say hello. I've been through some difficult times with my mum and there is alway support from all the staff and the manager's door

My mam has been a resident at Sovereign Lodge for almost 3 years she suffers from dementia which is challenging at times. Over the years if my sister or myself have had any concerns we have raised them with the manager or senior in charge, concerns are always listened to and in the main acted upon.

Lodge is a happy cheerful place, the staff are extremely versatile they work long shifts but still manage a smile at the end of the day. My sister and I very much appreciate the support they give us.

I was reluctant about my mam going into a home. When she was placed here I was over the moon. The home is fabulous. I cannot express my feelings for the staff. My mam is so well looked after. They really care for her, I now have peace of mind to know my mam is safe. If anything happens I'm immediately
phoned about it. I am just so happy she is in this caring and safe environment.

My mother became a resident approx one year ago. It took a few weeks for her to settle into her new routine but has now become a member of her new community. She has never looked better since she became a resident as she is always well presented, clean and looks forward to mealtimes. Although there
can be challenges the staff cope well and I feel confident that she is secure and well cared for.

Teresa Stephenson

Job Title: Home Manager

Our Registered Home Manager, Teresa Stephenson, started her career as a kitchen assistant back in 2000. She was then asked by her manager to become a care assistant because of her kind nature. She quickly climbed the ladder becoming a senior care assistant a post she was in for 11 years. Realising she couldn’t advance in her career where she was, she got a position at Sovereign Lodge where she became Deputy Manager and eventually achieving the Manager’s position. Teresa operates an open door policy, so feel free to approach her and air any concerns or queries you may have.
