Clean fresh smell, welcoming environment and staff. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Lovely, plentiful food and in family/cafe area, always clean and well-stocked. You end up becoming part of the staffs family and they yours. (We are all in it together).

My mum needed respite care following an operation and stay in hospital. The manager was extremely helpful in sorting the transfer to the home as we were going on holiday. Everything needed to be sorted quickly. The care was excellent and whilst no one ever wants to go into care it enabled mam to get some confidence back and she is now safely back at home. Activities were many and varied (even though she wouldn't join in) Overall many thanks - would use again.

As a family, we found it difficult with the thought our mother/grandmother needed more help than we as a family could give. We visited a few care homes and loved Elwick Grange the moment we walked through the door. A member of staff met us and put our minds at ease, this is the place we thought she would be happiest, we are all settling in, but the support given has been fantastic. A big thank you to all the staff and manager.

My mum benefited from respite provision.
She was extremely worried as to what Elwick Grange would be like.
One week on, I have collected a joyous, animated and lively mum.
The complete antithesis of the person I dropped off.
Thank you, Elwick Grange, for all your caring inclusivity.
My mum now has no qualms about returning in the future.

Your efforts have done the care sector proud - well done.

Everything about Elwick Grange is excellent. Professional and caring staff who I have experienced have often gone the extra mile in caring for my dad. Care, which sometimes can be very difficult and trying, has always been dealt with in a kind and sympathetic way. I cannot complain about any aspect of this superb nursing home or staff involved in its day to day running.

I find the staff helpful and pleasant. The rooms are clean and my Mam's clothes are washed and cleaned. The management and seniors are approachable and helpful in every way on my Mam's health issues.

Sometimes Mam has a whinge about the food but only every now and then. She's over the moon about the staff so that makes me assured she is looked after.

My mum has just spent 4 days in Elwick Grange, Hartlepool as my husband and I had to go away. I cannot recommend this place enough, it was fantastic. Firstly, the building was clean, warm and welcoming and there were no smells. The room allocated to my mum was clean and comfortable. The staff all greeted her at the door and helped to arrange her room for her. Throughout her stay, the staff worked tirelessly to make sure her needs were met. She didn't have to wait for anything, they were there in the night for her if she needed the toilet and didn't make her feel awkward if she did need to use the toilet in the night. They all made her laugh. When she was leaving, every staff member came to say goodbye and there were lots of hugs and kisses. The food was wonderful, mum said there was too much and it was all lovely.

Well done to all of them. Will certainly use it again.

Elwick Grange provides a safe, caring and nurturing an environment for mum to live in. Staff are always on hand to help with any query that family members have.
Both residents and family feedback is used to plan future care, activities and menus.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the care home to others in need of dementia care for their family.

My husband has been a resident at Elwick Grange for more than a year now. He appears to be well settled and eats very well, a high standard of nutrition (fruit drinks and tea available almost all of the time.)
My husband has had quite a number of medical problems which has been noticed and acted on rapidly by the care staff. Some of the carers are indeed what the home implies through some teams work together better than others.

Although a badly paid service, most of the carers go above their day giving as much as they can. This is often a great deal because the residents all have dementia and their needs are great. They demand repeated help given in a caring environment.

Meet the Team (1)

Wendy Winspear
Wendy WinspearJob Title:Home Manager

I’ve worked for Care UK for 15 years now. I’d been working in retail, but a family member worked here at the time and told me how good the home was, from the management down, and how well the team got to know residents and their families. It sounded like a place I wanted to be a part of.

I started as a domestic assistant and have worked my way up the ranks, doing all the training I could, including Care UK’s special training aimed at home managers of the future. It took confidence to put myself forward to be the Home Manager, but I’m so happy I did because I absolutely love my job.

My walkarounds are some of my favourite times of the day when I get to speak to residents and families. We have a brilliant team at Elwick Grange and the best thing about working here is being able to play a part in providing quality care to residents and enabling them to live happy, fulfilling lives.

Any spare time I have I like to spend with my husband, family and friends. I enjoy travelling to new places for days out or weekends away. I also enjoy reading, and I do try to keep fit.
