The care home has spacious bedrooms that are fully furnished with en-suite facilities, several have Juliet balconies overlooking the gardens. There are comfortable communal lounges with space to chat to friends or more privately with family. There are easily accessible bathing and shower rooms with specialist equipment and lift access on each floor. Spacious dining rooms with the facilities for families to make their own refreshments and beautifully presented gardens.

The kitchen produces delicious home cooked traditional food and additional menu choices. There is unlimited free Wi-Fi internet access. Visiting

  • At St Martins Care, they understand how important it is for families to maintain contact with their loved ones and the importance of the sustained and supported involvement of a resident’s families and friends. They also recognise that residents should have full choice over who they wish to see or be visited by.


    In normal circumstances, there will be no restrictions on visiting hours other than those requested by residents collectively or individually. The only exception may be in the incidence of an infection outbreak, where staff will refer to the Outbreak Management and Isolation Nursing Policy and Procedure.

The residents are bored as there is nothing happening here at all. Staff vary, some are kind but others are rude and not particularly pleasant. My mother has become very depressed here as there is no stimulation. She sits all day in a bleak lounge falling asleep in front of the tv. Another resident
was amazed when a carer played darts with her last week, saying that had never happened before. A noticeboard displays activities; these include visitors and tv!! One activity is pampering, which means a carer cutting nails with clippers! I do fear for the mental health of the residents.
The staff use the resident's dining room to do paperwork, which I don't think is appropriate. There could be up to 4 carers in there at a time; surely this time could be better spent with residents.
The home is on a plot of land with nothing but a fast food or a grocery store to visit. It is too far to push a relative into town, so why was it ever built there?

We provide care and support to 62 people with a wide range of needs, including physical disability, long term conditions and dementia. We have a great reputation locally and with the local authority and NHS Trust. We have a 5 star rating with environmental health, high standards of cleanliness and work closely with the infection, prevention and control team to ensure these are maintained, and is rated CQC Good. In a recent family and friends survey Guisborough Manor was rated as 4.2 stars out of 5, 87% would recommend Guisborough Manor to friends and family, 87% stated there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere and 83% said they were happy with the care and support provided to their loved one. Importantly, 83% felt that the management team listened to them and acted on any concerns they raised. We pride ourselves on individualised, person centered care and supporting residents to live well in the way that is important to them.

My father-in-law has been here for a year now and during this time has presented as difficult at times. Staff have always been respectful, polite and tried to engage him. His move up to the dementia floor has been smooth and his care up there has been excellent. Management and seniors have always done
their best for him and us and communicated with us to the best of their ability.

My experience of Guisborough Manor, previously in management myself in health and social care, is that there is great management. You can see that in the safety procedures when entering the home, to Covid restrictions and further the residents' belongings and rooms are safe and secure. The staff are
warm, welcoming and fully trained. There is always some activity going on whenever I visit and the residents and staff are always happy. It is evident that the residents are stimulated and feel loved and safe.

I love Guisborough Manor. My step mum has lived there for six years, after looking around lots of care homes and being very disillusioned. On the spur of the moment, I passed and called into Guisborough Manor unannounced. I was greeted with a lot of warmth. I was shown around and immediately loved it.
I saw staff providing genuine care, friendship and support. I knew my step mum would be very happy here if she had to choose. It was warm and the decor was beautiful, it was immaculate and smelt lovely. Every member of staff acknowledged me even if it was a smile. The home was busy with activities, music, TVs and there was a hairdresser pampering some of the residents. I saw and smelt some of the delicious food. I felt that this was a five-star top-class care home. My step mum always liked the best of everything and had pretty high standards, I have found exactly that at Guisborough Manor. My step mum loves living in Guisborough Manor. It's a true home, albeit a very professional outstanding one. I highly recommend Guisborough Manor and praise and thank all the staff.

From my husband first being admitted to Guisborough Manor, everyone made him feel welcome. He was looked after extremely well and treated with dignity. He started to become very difficult to look after and has now been transferred to dementia nursing care. I hope he is looked after as well as he was

The paperwork to be filled in before entry could be put online to be completed at the same time as the Lateral Flow Test email, to save entry time and tieing up a carer. Having the visit in Mam's room also could be improved as the chairs available aren't the most comfortable.

My Grandma was a resident of this care provider and unfortunately, my family believes she was not giving the best care. On many visits, we would witness my Grandma looking unkempt eg hair not brushed, and wearing no slippers. I am aware it's a busy environment however the basic needs were not met. She
gained a pressure sore on the heel and lost a considerable amount of weight over her time there (dietitian referred too late) cups of tea left cold even though Grandma liked coffee. A complaint was made but we felt not listened to and that our thoughts and opinions were not valid. Unfortunately, she passed away due to Covid-19 in another home. We feel as a family her time there could have been made more precious. Please think hard before choosing this home.

My friend was at Guisborough Manor for the last 2 years of her life. The home is spotlessly clean and comfortable and the food excellent, however, it's greatest asset is it's staff. Without exception they were kind, caring, compassionate and knowledgeable, nothing was ever too much trouble. Thank you

I spent one week in Guisborough Manor having respite after being in the hospital. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The home was very nice, comfortable and relaxing. The food was good and varied, coffee and drinks were always available throughout the day with biscuits. I would rate Guisborough
Manor very highly and was very happy with my stay, relaxing throughout.

I cannot praise and thank all the staff at Guisborough Manor enough. The care my Mam gets is above and beyond. All members of staff across the board are kind, thoughtful and very helpful. I never have to worry about my Mam's care. I think one of the reasons is the continuity of the staff as opposed

Alison

Alison Corner

Alison's career started as a student nurse at Scarborough General Hospital before moving into adult social care after leaving college. Alison explains "I think care was always a part of my childhood, I don’t think I can remember a time when it wasn’t . My nana lived with my family and my mum cared for her throughout the latter stages of her life. I completed my school work experience at the Stead Memorial Hospital and I continued as a volunteer when my placement finished . The staff there were fantastic and allowed me to participate in lots of duties. This was what I wanted, this was what I needed to do. I wanted to make people smile when they felt sad, laugh when they felt like crying, comfort them when they were in pain, listen when they needed to speak and speak for them when they no longer could. This was and still is my purpose." Alison has been the registered manager at Guisborough Manor since February 2019. She is proud of attaining her NVQ 5 In Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care which enables her to support and mentor current and future care staff to enrich the lives of the residents in our care. When asked about her vision for Guisborough Manor, Alison says "Guisborough Manor is not just a care home, it is “Your home” as soon as you walk through the door. From the subtle décor to the panoramic views, the fabulous care staff to the tasty delights that come from our kitchen. This is how I want our home to continue, making our ladies and gentlemen feel valued, supported, safe, loved and cared for to the highest level."

Alishia Coates

Alishia has gained over 15 years’ experience in providing care and support to older people, helping to enrich their lives in every stage of her career. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for residents. Alishia has gained her level 5 in health and social care management, previously being a care home manager herself. Alishia has been deputy manager at Guisborough Manor since October 2020 although she says it feels like she has been a part of the home forever. Alishia extends her caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home. She also works hard to arrange events and activities and is always keen to include the local community in life at St Martins Care. When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Alishia remarked, “I love seeing the residents and their loved one smile, laugh, feel confident and cared for. I'm very proud to be leading a team from strength to strength and seeing them flourish and grow. I believe that the best care involves giving the greatest of yourself to each and every resident, and ensuring our staff feel valued and appreciated."
