The care home has spacious bedrooms that are fully furnished with en-suite facilities, several have Juliet balconies overlooking the gardens. There are comfortable communal lounges with space to chat to friends or more privately with family. There are easily accessible bathing and shower rooms with specialist equipment and lift access on each floor. Spacious dining rooms with the facilities for families to make their own refreshments and beautifully presented gardens.

Visiting

  • At St Martins Care, they understand how important it is for families to maintain contact with their loved ones and the importance of the sustained and supported involvement of a resident’s families and friends. They also recognise that residents should have full choice over who they wish to see or be visited by.


    In normal circumstances, there will be no restrictions on visiting hours other than those requested by residents collectively or individually. The only exception may be in the incidence of an infection outbreak, where staff will refer to the Outbreak Management and Isolation Nursing Policy and Procedure.

The home itself is very good, the carers look after me very well, I can also go to management about queries if I need to. We also have good entertainment during the week and sometimes on weekends. The home is very clean and well looked after, but the food is only moderate.

My Aunt passed away last month and the family would like to make it known that she received excellent care at Guisborough Manor Care Home. She suffered with dementia and was at the Home nearly 10 years where the staff were wonderful - the carers always patient, kind and caring towards her. It is a Home
which has regular events for the residents which my Aunt thoroughly enjoyed - including quizzes, bingo, singalongs and visiting entertainers. Entertainment is not always provided in Care Homes but is extremely important to residents’ well-being. In her final days the staff provided great care and support to my Aunt as well as the family - which was appreciated so much. Grateful thanks to all the care staff, as well as management, catering and cleaning staff.

I visited my mother-in-law last week to celebrate her 94th birthday. I was pleased to see that she has settled in and integrated with the occupants and staff. Her health has improved and she is also taking part in events and activities in the home. She does complain that the food is rather boring and
bland, however, she has gained weight and is drinking more liquids. She is safe and secure and well looked after, this at her age is most important.

Myself and my family visited our mother on April 4th for her 94th birthday and were looked after extremely well by all the staff, made very welcome and given tea/coffee/biscuits. Our mother has been a resident here for 1 year and the difference in her overall health has been incredible! She has put
on weight and is living her life instead of just surviving in her own bungalow! She feels safe and well cared for, which is a great relief to us all!

Mam has been at Guisborough Manor since 2009. During her time there she has been very settled and secure and has built strong bonds and trusting relationships with the carers and staff as well as some of the other residents. Her quality of life has definitely improved since becoming a resident as she
feels very included in the community of the home, safe with the people around her and in the warm and caring environment.

My wife has been a resident on Hillview Floor for about 16 months. In that time she has settled in very well and is well cared for. This makes the family and I so relieved with this result. Each time I visit, my wife is always smiling and happy and has a good relationship with all the staff. As a visitor,
I am always made welcome by management and all the rest of the staff alike. I think everyone does a marvellous job.

Very welcoming on arrival. Seasonal displays/arrangements changed regularly. Clean and tidy at all times. Always seem to be decorating somewhere. All residents are treated the same no matter what their individual needs may be.
Many activities where all are encouraged to participate. For a patient who
never wanted to into a "home" to one who loves living there and is thriving in all ways.

After hearing some horror stories of care given in care homes, it was with an element of concern when my mother was required to go into care. However, the care given to her was of the highest standard. Though professional standards have to be maintained, staff provide bespoke care that meets individual
requirements. They also have the ability to keep bringing humour and enjoyment with an element of satire into the care home. This making it a very relaxed and pleasant place to live and visit, allowing all parties to feel part of an extended family.

Kind, supportive staff who went the extra mile to ensure that my mum was made to feel welcome on her admission to Guisborough manor, and who supported me through a difficult period to arrange emergency placement. My mum is happy and settled after just a few days and says everyone there is wonderful,
which means that as a family we can relax, knowing Mum is happy, safe and well cared for.

I came to Guisborough Manor for short-term respite in July, I then returned home, unfortunately, the cancer became more aggressive and my general health declined and it was necessary for me to again return to Guisborough Manor. I was delighted and very fortunate to be able to return to Guisborough Manor,
where the staff are most welcoming and treat each resident as an individual. I would recommend the home to all my friends and family.

My mum has been a resident at Guisborough Manor for just over a year.
She has dementia and is cared for upstairs.
Accepting that a loved one needs full-time care is a very difficult process for relatives and we found the staff at Guisborough Manor to be very sensitive to the needs of my mum and our
whole family.
The staff are very caring and attentive and always showed a very individualised approach to caring for the residents. I would have no hesitation to recommend this home.

In my opinion, Guisborough Manor is an excellent care home. The standard of care is very high and all staff are extremely professional - they are very caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. The residents are all treated with dignity and respect which is very important. The staff are always
on hand if someone is in distress and they are very patient and understanding when trying to settle anybody who is upset. I know that my mother-in-law is getting the best possible care and it certainly takes the pressure off our family knowing she is being well looked after. I can't praise the staff and management enough. They do a fantastic job in sometimes difficult circumstances. Well done to all of them!

What can I say? The only thing I can say is Brilliant! The staff are amazing, so friendly and professional. My mum could not be living in a better place, looked after 24/7 with the utmost care. I as a daughter was worried thinking it should be me looking after my mum. But Guisborough Manor have taken
any worries away. My mum is happy and safe.
Not mentioning the activities just wonderful, outings, sing songs, pampering, hairdresser, shows. Something going on all the time. A wonderful care home for both dementia residential care.

Although it is early days as my mother only moved in March 2017, she seems to have settled in well.
She is still confused about some aspects of her life, she is now much happier. Her care is very good and is now enjoying the activities due to the entertainment manager starting at the beginning of May.
When
we visit, we find all the staff very happy and helpful.
Her only problem is weight loss and her lack of appetite, which has been addressed with protein supplements.
Overall, we are very pleased with mum's progress and are content that she is in good hands.

Alison Corner

Alison's career started as a student nurse at Scarborough General Hospital before moving into adult social care after leaving college. Alison explains "I think care was always a part of my childhood, I don’t think I can remember a time when it wasn’t . My nana lived with my family and my mum cared for her throughout the latter stages of her life. I completed my school work experience at the Stead Memorial Hospital and I continued as a volunteer when my placement finished . The staff there were fantastic and allowed me to participate in lots of duties. This was what I wanted, this was what I needed to do. I wanted to make people smile when they felt sad, laugh when they felt like crying, comfort them when they were in pain, listen when they needed to speak and speak for them when they no longer could. This was and still is my purpose." Alison has been the registered manager at Guisborough Manor since February 2019. She is proud of attaining her NVQ 5 In Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care which enables her to support and mentor current and future care staff to enrich the lives of the residents in our care. When asked about her vision for Guisborough Manor, Alison says "Guisborough Manor is not just a care home, it is “Your home” as soon as you walk through the door. From the subtle décor to the panoramic views, the fabulous care staff to the tasty delights that come from our kitchen. This is how I want our home to continue, making our ladies and gentlemen feel valued, supported, safe, loved and cared for to the highest level."

Alishia Coates

Alishia has gained over 15 years’ experience in providing care and support to older people, helping to enrich their lives in every stage of her career. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for residents. Alishia has gained her level 5 in health and social care management, previously being a care home manager herself. Alishia has been deputy manager at Guisborough Manor since October 2020 although she says it feels like she has been a part of the home forever. Alishia extends her caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home. She also works hard to arrange events and activities and is always keen to include the local community in life at St Martins Care. When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Alishia remarked, “I love seeing the residents and their loved one smile, laugh, feel confident and cared for. I'm very proud to be leading a team from strength to strength and seeing them flourish and grow. I believe that the best care involves giving the greatest of yourself to each and every resident, and ensuring our staff feel valued and appreciated."
