East Croft Grange is a very clean and pleasant environment. The recent refurbishment and decoration has made a huge improvement. Mam's room is excellent and she is very settled there. Her care is very good and she has grown fond of certain carers who understand her dementia needs. It was difficult for
the family to admit Mam to care but the manager and staff have been very understanding and supportive. I am very keen for Mam to retain her dignity and receive personal care from female staff. I also want to make sure she wears her own clothes and not others, so I have labelled them for her.

Happy that my mother seems happy, well, tidy and well looked after, tidy appearance. The ratings aren't easy to answer in the current situation as we are limited to the conservatory but nevertheless everything seems ok. Always greeted nicely by the staff.

My mother has been in here for nearly three years and as her health has deteriorated and her needs have become more, her care has been exemplary. She often doesn't want to get up and the staff check constantly that she is okay and try to get her to take fluids. I could not provide the level of care
given and the relief of her being looked after so well in such clean
and pleasant surroundings is immense.

The care home facilities are always immaculate. The residents have lots of activities organised to keep them busy and entertained. The routine is consistent, which is good especially as Mam has Parkinson's disease. Staff are pleasant and the manager has been very helpful in all aspects of care and advice.
I would like to see the staff socialise more with residents, developing conversations as they are often sat or stood disengaged when not attending to residents.

I always said I would never know my mother to be put in a care home, however, that decision was taken out of my hands, and as the weeks and months passed my fears quickly disappeared because of the love and care my mother receives.

My mother has been in care for 12 years. She has been a resident at East Croft since 2012 and during that time she has received an excellent quality of care. She suffers from dementia and has deteriorated to a point where she now is bedridden and unable to do anything for herself and is totally reliable
on the care staff. A new manager took over approximately 2 years ago. The improvements she has made to the daily running of the home can only be described as outstanding. East Croft has got to be one of the best run care homes in Cumbria. Highly recommended.

My wife was diagnosed as having vascular dementia in March 2009. We managed to cope with the condition until the summer of 2016. She then started to wander around the house during the night and sleeping during the daytime. On one occasion she managed to walk out of a day care centre and was missing
for 2 hours during frosty weather. Luckily a motorist saw her and took her to a police station. The family decided that it was time to consider residential care home facilities for her safety and my peace of mind. I've visited 5 homes within easy reach for visiting before opting for East Croft Grange after experiencing a taster day.

Mam has been in East Croft Grange for two and a half years and has always been cared for in a very respectful and loving way. I cannot find any faults with her care in any way and I always recommend the home whenever asked about it. I am so thankful we found a good place for mam to go to.

My mother has been a resident at Eastcroft for 9 months. She has settled extremely well. She has dementia and her needs are cared for in an excellent manner. All staff are very open and approachable. The care given is very individual to her needs. Residents are integrated in a very sensitive manner.
The unit in which she is cared for is excellent in every aspect of dementia care.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.832)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.832) out of 10 for East Croft Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.832 for East Croft Grange is calculated as follows: ( (236 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 274 Ratings = 4.832
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for East Croft Grange is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
