Lambton House is a family owned residential care home, situated in open countryside on the outskirts of Bournmoor, near to Chester-le-Street & Houghton-le-Spring, not far from the historic city of Durham.

With 57 ensuite bedrooms, communal areas, a quiet library lounge & in-house hairdressing salon, the original twentieth-century property has been seamlessly extended to be spacious, light, comfortable & dementia-friendly.

An exceptional living environment has been created to encompass all the needs and requirements for any person in need of care, comfort, compassion and friendship.

The home is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens offering residents and visitors a peaceful and tranquil setting to enjoy open country views beyond the home's boundaries. The garden hosts outdoor entertainment events during the summer.

Lambton's garden is also home to the 'Residents' Rainbow Tearoom' and 'Pit Stop Bar'. The tearoom opened Aug 2020 is a social meeting place for residents and families to use. In May 2021 the residents' private 'Pit Stop Garden Bar' was opened offering another social stimulation meeting place. The snug-style bar is also in the main garden building with a local mining heritage and reminiscence themed interior. The bar is heated and offers visitors a TV, magnetic dartboard, dominoes and card games.
The garden building has a toilet.

In 2023, a cinema projector and large drop down screen was installed in the home for resident film evenings.

The Lambton team consists of senior care managers, professionally trained carers, activities co-ordinators, domestic, maintenance, housekeeping & kitchen staff.

Staff have been extremely helpful, caring and supportive to help Mam adjust to her new home. They have kept us updated on her health, welfare and how she is settling into her new environment. They have a varied range of entertainment to keep residents occupied, and Mam particularly enjoys the afternoon
singers, especially if it’s in the garden as it was in the recent warm spell.

We as a family, couldn’t be happier with the care my dad has received since going into Lambton House. The staff are so lovely with the residents and the families. My dad has dementia and we were so worried about putting him into care. All the staff at Lambton House made this transition so easy for us,

A family friend has been in Lambton House since 2020. After a transfer from an unsatisfactory Care Home, he has certainly thrived since his move. I have nothing but praise for Lambton House. The staff apart from their friendliness, are dedicated showing empathy, support, and care. The residents, if
they wish, are involved in daily activities, also entertainment is provided on a regular basis. Outside there is a newly built pavilion, plus extensive gardens to stroll in or just to sit in and watch the wildlife. If I could have rated more stars, I certainly would have done so.

I can't thank Lambton House enough for making my mother settle in so quickly. When I asked her how she settled in, she said it was like being in a hotel. The food was lovely with plenty of choice and nothing was too much for all the staff, nothing was a bother. When I visit her hair has been done at
the one site hairdresser and she always looks smart.
I could not wish for anywhere better for Mum to be.

My dad has only been a resident at Lambton House for 8 months but during this time he has been very well cared for by compassionate, caring and dedicated staff. After taking time to adjust to his new surroundings he is now well and truly settled and seems extremely happy, this can only be as a result
of the care and attention he is receiving. He is thoroughly enjoying all of the activities/entertainment especially the singing and dancing. He also loves the opportunity to be in the beautiful garden and tearoom, spending time reminiscing with other residents. The updates and photographs we receive on a regular basis help us to keep in touch.

My mum has been a resident for over 6 years. The caring and compassionate staff go above and beyond regarding all the residents in their care, ensuring their spirits are kept high with music, dancing, entertainment when visiting loved ones has been restricted. The team have been innovative in ways to
allow relatives to visit their loved ones, creating a visitor's room, tea room and even decorated one of the lounges like an ice cream parlour back in the day for residents to enjoy. I have recommended this care home to my friends who have been looking for a care home for their mum and I would definitely not hesitate to recommend it again.

When my sister’s husband and carer passed away suddenly, she needed a peaceful and caring new home, where she’d feel calm and comfortable. The team at Lambton House took the time to make to my sisters new home feel like a home-from-home.
The care the team have given her has been exceptional and they
made her feel welcome from the first day.
Not only do we know she’s well taken care of medically, the team have offered something far greater; friendship.
They regularly put on entertainment with live music, games events, dancing, gardening and are always looking at new ideas and feedback as to what to plan next.
Covid-19 has hit care homes extremely hard, with the inability to see loved ones, the team have still found ways to make sure we can safely call in to see my sister, they’ve recently built an indoor visiting room which is completely safe for both the residents and visitors and lets loved ones spend some quality time, face to face with each other. The team have also created a lovely rea room for residents/visitors when able to visit.

My mum tried Lambton House after a traumatic and chaotic week in another local home (with a great CQC report). Lambton was where she tried next and from the moment she arrived, we knew we had made the right decision. They are so caring and considerate, within a week had gained my mum's trust and had
given her the care and consideration she required to settle in, even in this troubled and uncertain time. They facilitate contact with families regularly and communication is excellent.

When my mother first came into the care home she was not very well in fact I did not think she would survive. The home's staff have looked after her and she has obviously improved although she cannot remember how bad she was. She has started to walk again and is always well presented.

This care home deserves a very good or excellent in all categories.
The team from the manager, the care team, the cooks, housekeeping and maintenance provide care at a very high standard. The social interaction and entertainment are such an important part of creating a family atmosphere. It's hard
to put on paper, but I see my mam and the other residents are very much treated with care, kindness and dignity - the team 'know' my mam. My family are encouraged to be a part of the care for Mam and welcomed during visits and activities. During lockdown contact is made through Facebook, phone and Skype. Thank you Lambton House.

My mum has been in Lambton House for almost 1 year now and has dementia. The staff are wonderful- highly professional and very committed and caring. They are clearly well trained in dealing with residents with complex needs. Lambton House has a good selection of varied activities for the residents
to get involved with which keep my mum interested and active. The facilities are very good with a wonderful garden area in the area. There is a positive atmosphere about the home which is largely due to the committed staff.

During COVID-19 where I can't visit, I've been able to Skype my mam and have lovely chats with her. One particular carer has been brilliant facilitating this using his own personal iPad, really helpful. Moving forward, this would be a great addition for the Home to use once lockdown has ended. The Home
is set in lovely surroundings and the garden area is particularly welcoming compared to other Homes I've visited. The staff are friendly, and my mam has made some lovely friends - her quality of life is far better since being here and it's great to see her so happy.

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Lambton House especially, during these extremely difficult times dealing with the Covid-19 virus. Our family, along with many others, have been finding not being able to visit our relatives very upsetting.
Knowing that we have been unable to
visit for so long, they have tried their very best to keep us updated by the use of their social media site, posting photos of our loved ones and the activities they have been taking part in. These have been an absolute Godsend, reassuring us that our loved ones are being well looked after as always and are keeping well through these troubled times. It was brilliant to see photos of my father-in-Law, hopefully, it won't be too long before we can visit again.
We really appreciate all your hard work and dedication looking after our loved ones, keep up the great work and stay safe. Thank You.

My Dad has been in this home for 2-years and is very happy, all of the staff are very caring and helpful and really love the residents. They have lots of activities going on and regularly have entertainers in (obviously not at the moment), the kitchen staff all to a great job and the meals are very
nice, I’ve tried them myself. To all the staff, carers, activity organiser, cleaners, laundry staff, handyman and management a big thank you for your hard work and dedication - you have a lovely home.

Marie is a dedicated healthcare professional and is a qualified registered manager.


Her commitment is demonstrated through 30 years of experience in providing care and support to elderly people at Lambton House.


She is a passionate, knowledgeable and dynamic leader who is determined to deliver the highest standards of care and quality of life for all of the residents at Lambton.
Marie understands the essential need for continuous learning, teamwork and delegation and values her colleague's input to the successful running of Lambton.
She remarks “ I believe that without a sense of teamwork in caring, there can be no sense of community.
We foster a transparent and open culture at Lambton House, with common goals for high standards throughout all aspects of our service. Our entire team has a mix of role-relevant skills and experience. I'm extremely proud of the service we run and the environment we have created for our staff and residents.”
