Anchor’s Elderwood is located at the heart of the community in Darlington.

The home continues to welcome new residents for friendly and comfortable residential and dementia care for up to 40 customers in single en suite rooms. Residents have the benefit of the Elderwood Arms pub area within the home.

Detailed care plans are created for each resident to ensure their changing needs are always met throughout their time at the home. Staff work hard to build strong relationships with customers and receive on-going dementia training to provide the best care for those living at Elderwood.

The home is owned by Anchor, England's largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for the over 55s. With 60 years of experience as a not-for-profit organisation, the group aims to continually raise standards and exceed expectations by reinvesting money made to improve their services and properties.

My father is happy and well settled in the care home. He is quite contented with the with the wide choice of meals provided and can choose whether to eat in his room or in the dining room. The staff members are kind, considerate and look after him well.

I have been kept well informed about the resident's health and other needs. I have learned to take the resident's comments and occasional complaints with a considerable pinch of salt, knowing their propensity to believe totally their own interpretation of actions and words. My aunt has been a resident of Elderwood for over two years now and, apart from not being able to visit because of Covid restrictions, I'm very pleased with the care she has received from all the staff. While I'm there visiting, she is always treated with dignity and respect. I do, however, find the
cost of care very expensive.

Very caring towards residents. Food is very good. Staff are caring and professional at all times. The building is always clean. Friendly approach at all times when visiting. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for care for a relative.

Elderwood is simply the best care home I've ever come across. Staff are absolutely wonderful and the majority who work there have been employed there for years, meaning there is excellent consistency. The care given is second to none. Rooms are lovely and roomy and the home is spotless. There is great
care given to menus and the quality of food is excellent. The activity programme is regular, varied and ensures there is regular stimuli and fun for residents. I feel very blessed that my mother is fortunate enough to be a resident there. I simply cannot fault anything. Credit to the manager for maintaining such a wonderful culture of care. My mum has been staying at Elderwood since November last year. Her wish was for her to continue living in her bungalow, but unfortunately her mobility didn’t allow that. Both Mum and I are so thankful that we found Elderwood and we would like to thank all the staff for their care and attention. It takes

Staff really friendly. Home clean and well kept. Coped with Covid really well and the ongoing effects. Washing done individually, so no need for name tags in clothes. Home keeps you informed if there are any issues.

Since my aunt became a resident at Elderwood, she has had excellent care and attention, as given by all members of staff. It took some time for her to settle in, but through patience and persistence, her carers have made her feel entirely at home. She often comments on how well she is being looked after
and the good standard of the accommodation and catering.

Elderwood have been excellent in caring for my gran, who became a full-time resident with them in October 2022 after the passing of my grandad. The staff at Elderwood were exceptional and caring when it came to the end of life care for my grandad and treated him with dignity and respect. As a family,
we’re very pleased with Elderwood and all the staff as they continue to care for my gran, who is now happy and enjoying living there.

I found all staff very pleasant and willing to help in all matters. My brother's health issues were listened to and helped to be resolved. My brother returned from the hospital, needing to receive palliative care. Management and all staff were supportive of my brother and helpful to all my family.

My mum stayed at Elderwood from 1st August until she sadly passed away at the end of November. During her stay, she received compassionate care at all times. The staff (every single member) were fantastic. We bless the say we chose this care home.

What a wonderful care home. My father had a great bond and rapport with all the staff. I felt extremely confident with all the professional care he received. I have an auntie in Elderwood and I can say she is so happy and cared for. The staff at Elderwood are lovely, each and every one of them and my auntie loves the food and activities. The home is amazing and I could not wish for any better for my auntie.

I could not have asked for a better place for my mum to spend the last 5 months of her life. The care she got was amazing the girls treat her like their own family. My mum would tell me all the time how she was been treated with respect and dignity and the staff could not do enough for her. I would

My mother was a resident at Elderwood for more than 11 years. I chose the home because of the friendliness of the staff and the general happy atmosphere. I was even invited to try the excellent food. Living 300 miles away, choosing the right care home was very important. In 2010 my mother was physically
fit but with little short-term memory. As her dementia increased the staff remained caring and kind, even when her behaviour became very challenging. Praise must also go to the excellent care home manager.

A friendly, supportive staff made my experience pleasant. Being restricted to a soft diet was disappointing because normal meals looked very nice.

Excellent level of care, which cannot be faulted. Their attention to detail is outstanding. All staff friendly, caring and professional, nothing is never too much to ask, help always provided. My mother-in-law was very happy at Elderwood and loved the staff and comfort they provided.
