Anchor’s Elderwood is located at the heart of the community in Darlington.

The home continues to welcome new residents for friendly and comfortable residential and dementia care for up to 40 customers in single en suite rooms. Residents have the benefit of the Elderwood Arms pub area within the home.

Detailed care plans are created for each resident to ensure their changing needs are always met throughout their time at the home. Staff work hard to build strong relationships with customers and receive on-going dementia training to provide the best care for those living at Elderwood.

The home is owned by Anchor, England's largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for the over 55s. With 60 years of experience as a not-for-profit organisation, the group aims to continually raise standards and exceed expectations by reinvesting money made to improve their services and properties.

The staff at Elderwood are all absolutely wonderful, they are thoughtful and very caring. All the staff are happy and smiling every time you visit, and the list of activities are to be commended. I can not praise the care home enough, and although my mam died at Elderwoood, the loving, caring nature
of the staff left me with no doubt that no one could have been looked after in a more caring, wonderful way. Thank you to all.

I feel that my mother is well cared for and safe in Elderwood. The staff are without exception, very caring, and I am happy that my mother is well cared for by them. All other aspects at Elderwood are excellent, including the management. The food is also excellent.

From late March to mid-July 2020, due to the covid-19 pandemic, we have had no physical contact with Elderwood care home, or my father, so it is rather difficult to write a constructive appraisal for that period. Recently, however, we have resumed our visits in a controlled environment and found my
dad to be in excellent health and mentally very happy, for which we are very grateful.
The management and staff of Elderwood need to be congratulated on their selfless dedication during this difficult time, keeping the home Covid free and their residents safe from infection. Throughout the pandemic, we have been kept in touch with dad via many phone calls, and our enquiries have always been treated promptly and with courtesy.
In the early part of the year, my father suffered a brain haemorrhage and following a timely diagnosis was speedily sent to the hospital for specialist treatment, and he is now recovered and doing well.
In conclusion, and following our own positive experience, we would wholeheartedly recommend Elderwood care home to any prospective resident and their families.

Due to the Coronavirus, I was only able to see dad through the window. A member of staff sat next to dad so she could repeat what I'd said if dad didn't hear me. Dad looked really well, neat and tidy, he was looking forward to the 3 pm cuppa and cake trolly coming round. My dad is a different person
since he went to live at Eldewrwood, the staff have worked miracles with him.

Very impressive level of care. Stable and mature workforce, who have warm and caring relationships with residents. Home is clean and well cared for. Meals are regular, of good quality and generous. Relatives visits are welcomed at all times. Would recommend this as a very good and caring provision.

All the staff are warm and friendly, really lovely and made us both very welcome. In my husband's own words, "I like it here, there is a lot of people to talk to".
It is such a weight off my shoulders to know my husband is well cared for and loved whilst he is at Elderwood. It means I can enjoy the

I visit my mum frequently and am always impressed by the friendliness of all staff and their willingness to help. I have been today for the opening of their new pub The Elderwood Arms, what a lovely idea. Also, the buffet and entertainment today which all obviously involved a great deal of hard work.

My step mum spent the last 2 years of her life at Elderwood and I cannot speak highly enough of the care and compassion she received from the carers. I visited each week at different times and was always given a cheerful welcome no matter how busy the staff were. Having previous experience of care homes
with my mother in law, Elderwood surpassed all my expectations.

This is an outstanding home, from their manager and inclusive of all the staff, both myself and my father had contact with the managers help to start the process which was invaluable and without this, we would still be struggling to get the respite needed. It was the first time my father had a short
stay and this was made very comfortable and supportive for him by the friendly staff who were very interactive with him and our family. Whilst we hope this is the first of short stays at the home, the experience we all had left us knowing he was very safe, with well trained and caring staff. Also knowing that he will be using the home again, we have no worries about him staying for a longer period. This home allowed my mother to go away and have a rest without a problem of what care he would receive. This must be the best care home in Darlington, would not go to any other.

My sister in law was at Elderwood for many years, it was her home. She was happy and well looked after until her death at 85 years old, 27th February 2019.
The staff helped to arrange her funeral as we are OAP's and live a long way away. They made things easy for us every step of the way. We are grateful
for their help, they took away the worry. They went above what is usual. Thank you all.

On our initial visit, my sister and I found Elderwood very warm, inviting and welcoming and quiet. All staff have eye contact and speak to everyone with a smile, regardless of being a visitor or resident, nothing is too much trouble. Our mother has settled very well and is very positive about living
at Elderwood. We are happy to know she is happy and content and safe.

My mum has been a resident for over three years. Recently has neede more healthcare. The staff are brilliant, nothing is to much trouble, mum is always clean, well dressed and well cared for. Her room is attractive with all her personal belongings i.e ornaments photos etc. Everywhere is well maintained
a lovely atmosphere.
