My husband was in for one week respite. He settled in well I believe.

I found all the staff extremely helpful and always pleasant, both when arranging the stay and when visiting.

My step mum spent the last 2 years of her life at Elderwood and I cannot speak highly enough of the care and compassion she received from the carers. I visited each week at different times and was always given a cheerful welcome no matter how busy the staff were. Having previous experience of care homes with my mother in law, Elderwood surpassed all my expectations.

This is an outstanding home, from their manager and inclusive of all the staff, both myself and my father had contact with the managers help to start the process which was invaluable and without this, we would still be struggling to get the respite needed. It was the first time my father had a short stay and this was made very comfortable and supportive for him by the friendly staff who were very interactive with him and our family. Whilst we hope this is the first of short stays at the home, the experience we all had left us knowing he was very safe, with well trained and caring staff. Also knowing that he will be using the home again, we have no worries about him staying for a longer period. This home allowed my mother to go away and have a rest without a problem of what care he would receive. This must be the best care home in Darlington, would not go to any other.

My sister in law was at Elderwood for many years, it was her home. She was happy and well looked after until her death at 85 years old, 27th February 2019.

The staff helped to arrange her funeral as we are OAP's and live a long way away. They made things easy for us every step of the way. We are grateful for their help, they took away the worry. They went above what is usual. Thank you all.

I have been visiting Elderwood for at least 3 years to visit my friend of 30 years. I have always found each visit a friendly experience and I cannot find anything to comment about in any negative way. Everything and every staff members are wonderful, caring people and I cannot thank them enough. I visit at least 3 times each week, sometimes more.

This 'care home' has been wonderful for my husband - having respite. The staff are very kind and caring. The food is very good and plenty to eat any time of the day. It's a very well run 'care home' with plenty of lovely staff.

On our initial visit, my sister and I found Elderwood very warm, inviting and welcoming and quiet. All staff have eye contact and speak to everyone with a smile, regardless of being a visitor or resident, nothing is too much trouble. Our mother has settled very well and is very positive about living at Elderwood. We are happy to know she is happy and content and safe.

My mother passed away in January this year having spent 11 years as a resident at Elderwood. In those 11 years, they made Elderwood my mother’s home, treated her with love and respect. She really enjoyed herself, the staff could not have done enough for her. Meals were homemade and always a cuppa offered when I visited. Mam was always clean and tidy as was her room, a lovely friendly place and I couldn’t praise the staff enough.

Our mother was resident in Elderwood initially for respite from Dec 2015 following a fall at home. We visited a couple of other homes but from the outset Elderwood felt right. Staff were friendly and helpful and treated not only our Mam but all of us with dignity and respect. When her temporary care became permanent staff went out of their way to make sure Mam knew they were happy that she was staying with them. We furnished her room from her house and she was able to have her own landline phone. The care was exceptional and we were all confident that our Mam was safe when we left her. She was very happy with the quality and variety of food available. Not only home cooked meals but home baking as well. Our Mam died unexpectedly at the end of August and again all staff were caring and compassionate. We felt they genuinely cared about her as a person and us as a family. I would not hesitate to recommend this company and this care home in particular.

I think everything about Elderwood is excellent. The managers are very helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The only thing I find I have trouble with is the heating system in my room, I find it hard to turn the button on the radiator, but staff assist me with this when I cannot manage.
