This month I have completed what has been my third brief respite stay at Heatherdale whilst my husband (who is also my carer) went into hospital for another planned cardiac procedure.

Yet again I was made to feel extremely welcome by very friendly and dedicated staff. My family members and visitors were also warmly received. As always, the standard of care was excellent and my specific needs were met in full. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending Heatherdale to others. It must be one of the best care homes in the North East.

My grandmother became unwell. The staff acted quickly and worked to a high standard to ensure my gran got the correct help and support she was needing. The staff were brilliant with myself and family, I felt reassured at this difficult time.

I would highly recommend this care home. I have worked in care homes myself for eight years and this is by far the best I have seen. I wouldn't have my gran anywhere else. Such a supportive team.

My Mum spent the last year of her life at Heatherdale and was extremely happy here. She knew no one when she moved to Northumberland and was welcomed into the community at the home by the carers and other staff. She had only good words to say about all the staff and knowing that she was happy made my life so much easier. Mum was always a keen gardener and being able to sit outside during the summer months and look at the lovely garden was so important, her actual words to me, one day last summer were 'this is heaven'.

The staff seem to be always happy and have time for relatives and visitors. I would have no hesitation in recommending Heatherdale to others.

Heatherdale is a lovely place, it’s set in nice grounds and is well maintained and very homely and welcoming when you go. The staff are absolutely brilliant, nothing is ever too much trouble for them when they look after my Mother in Law or when looking after me as well. The staff really care about the Residents and make sure their needs are always met, there are lots of activities, which are appropriate for everyone whatever their ability. The Staff go over and above in providing excellent care and even make sure specific needs are met and likes and dislikes recorded and most important actioned. When there are any health issues these are dealt with immediately. If you are looking for a Care home this is the best you could wish for, absolutely fantastic. Thank you, for making the transition from home to residential care as easy as possible for all parties.

Mum became a resident in July 2018 following a stay in a hospital. My first visit was an unbooked drop in but the staff were welcoming and happy to talk to me / show me around. Originally her stay was possibly short term however she was happy, settled and quickly saw it as ‘home’ - she was more than happy to stay! Mum was always happy to talk about the activities (especially the singing) and how friendly the staff were. The atmosphere is lovely and always happy (a home from home) - there was never a day mum did not enjoy being there. All of the staff are friendly and happy to chat. Even when her situation changed and her needs increased the staff cared for her with respect and dignity. When it became clear Mum’s care was palliative her needs (and her family’s) were fully met - we can’t thank them enough.

Few places match Heatherdale’s standards of care, compassion and kindness. My father is happy and settled in a safe and loving environment. As his care needs have increased, staff have worked tirelessly to meet them. The way staff support and relate to residents is exemplary. A professional team who go the extra mile, they care about what they do and how they do it.

The building itself is clean and homely, the rooms are spotless and the lovely garden is expertly tended. The whole environment is calm, appealing and welcoming.

The comforting daily routines and structures at Heatherdale run smoothly. An inclusive programme of activities and entertainment is of real value to residents as is the way staff involve them in celebrating or commemorating special occasions and significant events across the year. There is warmth, laughter and fun between staff and residents and visitors are always welcome. Heatherdale is like one big family - the nearest you’ll come to finding home from home.

My mother lived with this care provider for the last six years of her life. During that time, both her physical and mental health deteriorated. She became increasingly confused and forgetful with dementia and less physically able. Throughout that time the staff team cared for my mother with sensitivity and compassion. She was very happy and relaxed in their care, with total trust in all the team. We have shared as a family, lots of happy memories with the care providers: her 90th birthday party, Christmas times and special events to name a few. We will always be grateful for their care and concern.

Heatherdale has shown my father care, compassion and great kindness during his last weeks of life. We recognised all the staff, the staff took the time to talk to my dad and to us to find out his likes and dislikes to make him as comfortable as possible.

My husband was a difficult patient at first but the staff coped with him well, with patience.

They were always concerned with my welfare too, providing me with honest updates on his conditions as well as very welcomed cups of coffee.

My husband suffered from Alzheimer's when he was transferred from the hospital to Heatherdale. Very soon he was diagnosed to be in need of palliative care. I cannot speak highly enough of the standard of the care he was given. When visiting, which I did every day, he was always comfortable, relaxed and pain-free.

When he died the staff did everything they could to make the distressing situation tolerable. Thank you.

I have visited my mother on several occasions at different times during this week. It is lovely to see her so happy and content. She is taking part in activities and enjoys going out in the minibus. She enjoys mealtimes and it is so nice to see her sat at a table with her friends.
Every time we have visited we have been welcomed so warmly by every member of staff - no matter how busy they are.
Thank you so much.

P.S. Love the cheese scones.

The manager manges them very well, a fantastic care home! A wonderful team of girls.

My mother was admitted to Heatherdale after a series of falls in her home and her dementia, at the moment for respite, but this will be probably long term. Although disappointed that she has had to leave her home, I feel she is in a safe homely environment with a caring staff team. It is reassuring to know she is cared for and that there is an activity schedule to keep her stimulated.

With my daughter, I visited quite a few care homes and really took to everything about Heatherdale. First impressions were very welcoming, my brother went in for respite before becoming a permanent part of the Heatherdale family. I say family, as the staff could not have done anything more to make my brother looked after as I would have wanted. They coped with him exceptionally well as he could be awkward and rude.

My Nanna stayed in Heatherdale for the last 19 months of her life. The first room she had was a bit small and dull, but she eventually got a lovely downstairs room with a view of the garden. It's like one big happy family! You are made very welcome when visiting and are free to come and go as you please. They made my Nanna feel as at home as possible. I appreciate the hard work and commitment of all the staff. Thank you all. I know it's hard work you do.
